5 out of 5 eggsVery impressed

This review is from: HP Pavilion 25xi 25" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1 (1,000:1)

Pros: Well packed, easy to unbox and setup without tools. Absolutely gorgeous display, deep colors and the viewing angles go all the way to the sides. Included calibration tools are very handy for getting things dialed in just right for your environment. $190 on sale, over a third off retail sticker.

Cons: It's light enough that it's susceptible to vibration/movement if your desk isn't on a solid foundation. No provision for a VESA mount (although I hear tale that adapter kits are available). While it comes with VGA and DVI cables, there is no HDMI cable. Really, HP? You include the VGA cable that few people use these days, and scrimp on an HDMI cable that would run $5 at most in bulk?

Other Thoughts: There's a driver update available on the HP site that you'll want to use. After installing that and twiddling with the calibration tools for about twenty minutes to get things just so, I was ready to rock 'n roll. Honestly folks, I'm blown away, and I've been using and evaluating monitors for two decades now. My old Asus 23" LED backlit was no slouch, but this is honestly like going from a 2D world to a 3D world. Colors I had never noticed on old images jump right out, animations are glassy smooth. Can stand almost 180 degrees to the side and still see it clearly. Even near full price I doubt you'd find a much better value, even with the warts, unless you happen to work in a very brightly lit area (in which case glare from the glossy screen might become a concern).

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

This review is from: HP Pavilion 25xi 25" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1 (1,000:1)

Pros: Colors are amazing, So is contrast sharpness and overall presentation.

Cons: None, The "glare" is no worse than any other glossy screen. If you know what those are then you know what this is. Not a big deal for me as the room its in doesn't get too bright

Other Thoughts: Got this on sale during the shellshocker. Well worth the price of admission.

4 out of 5 eggsGlare, otherwise great

This review is from: HP Pavilion 25xi 25" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1 (1,000:1)

Pros: - Vivid colors
- Smooth picture
- Bright and clear images from every angle

Cons: - Light glare

Other Thoughts: In a dark room, this monitor presents some of the most vibrant colors, and smoothest crystal clear images I've ever seen. However, if you put it in a room with sunlight, the light will undoubtedly make very noticeable reflections off of the screen. The glare occurs because there is glass in front of the LCD, which otherwise looks sleek. Other than that, this monitor is very skinny and stylish.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Great

This review is from: HP Pavilion 25xi 25" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1 (1,000:1)

Pros: So, i got this on sale at $159.99 (newegg 1 day sale thing) so it was a great deal at the time and I've been checking this item every other day to see if i can get anywhere near that price again! Because this thing works great! Worked perfectly right out of the box, is nice and bright and is just what I wanted!

For those that are wanting very specific images with extreme clarity, i would suggest going to a smaller size. I have a 21.5" right next to it and the images on there are much "better". Better as in there is less room for the 1920x1080 pixels to spread so they're more condensed (duh). However, if you want a larger size and want alot of pixels too, you could get a 4K screen for... $400-600 or so. 3140x2560 I think is the resolution of 4K.

Cons: None as of yet. I've only had it for like a week or so so it's still new. I'll update my review if anything changes of course.

4 out of 5 eggsVESA Adapter

This review is from: HP Pavilion 25xi 25" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1 (1,000:1)

Pros: See other thoughts.

Cons: No VESA mounting holes. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I forgot to mention in my previous review that there is a third party VESA bracket available for the HP xi series. I cant vouch for the quality or fit, but you can see it if you search for HP 25xi VESA adapter. Also worth mentioning is that my monitor's silver strip beneath the panel looked like it had fingerprints on it, but it is actually variations in the coating applied at the factory. I didn't realize the strip was semi transparent until I found the touch controls which light up and show through that strip. The variations are not plainly evident, but you can notice it. Maybe its only evident on my monitor? I still like this monitor a lot, I can control light in the room and I prefer glossy panels. Very sharp image and good color "pop".

5 out of 5 eggsCheck Driver Versions.

This review is from: HP Pavilion 25xi 25" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor IPS250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1 (1,000:1)

Pros: Glossy screen produces crisp images (pro for those that prefer glossy).
Excellent viewing angles.
Seems capable of high brightness.
Great color.
Very crisp images with the new drivers.

Cons: Glossy screen (con for those that do not like glossy).
Definitely needs tweaking out of the box, but the results are worth it- see other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I had a problem with installation of the drivers on Win XP "driver install error". After a bit of searching on the net, I realized I had forgotten to check HP's site....and there it was. Newer versions of all three drivers and utilities (driver, HP Test pattern, HP MyDisplay for Win XP-Win7). I read the revision history, and yes, the newer version was written because of driver installation errors on Windows. Turns out the monitor I received Jan 2014 was manufactured in April of 2013 (from HP Utility).....I was wondering why the drivers that came with it were from 2012! DO install the newer downloaded drivers....they make all the difference...and DO tweak the settings....text goes from blurry to sharp, color balances, etc. I felt like I got new eyes when I dialed it in. I cant say anything yet about longevity, but this was a great deal on a Shell Shocker, and probably worth it also at regular price if you want a glossy monitor. I find that this monitor is not quite as glossy as the Dell S2440l (my other monitor) which has a piece of glass covering the actual panel. Overall, its not a studio monitor, but was a great deal and has good performance for a monitor in the mid range.
