5 out of 5 eggsUtechSmart Venus Review

Pros: Solid performance.
Removable weights to adjust how light or heavy it is.
Good fit for average sized hands.
Several configurable buttons that are well placed.
Configurable profiles for different applications.
Sturdy braided USB cable.
Easy to use DPI buttons for quick adjustments.
Great price.

Cons: My only complaint about this mouse would be that the left clicker got a little noisy after a couple of weeks. It's not bothersome enough to knock off an egg.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome product for the price.

Pros: ANY color you want, the buttons, logo, scroll wheel, and the headlights (the lights in the front) can be customized except the 4 DPI lights which are red.
The weights were preloaded in the mouse when I got it. Didn't make any sense to take out a one or a few because I didn't feel much of a difference. There was difference when you take the all out, but I like the weighty feel from the mouse versus the light feel.

Cons: None yet, just got it today. So far so good.

Other Thoughts: Surface is nice and has a matte grip feel to it. However, I wish they would have offered more of the vacuum plated black version which is pretty hard to find. Nonetheless, it's a great mouse for $40.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect as expected

Pros: this thing has got it all

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I had bought the Uranus 7 months ago for myself, and after that time the mouse is still perfect so when I was asked to buy a gaming mouse for a Christmas present I went straight to UtechSmart and bought this Venus. It is just as good (better if you like a bunch of buttons) as the Uranus I bought 7 months ago. Another great product from UtechSmart.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat...when it works

Pros: All of the buttons, multiple macro profiles, and DPI adjustments on the fly are amazing and thus gets at least 2 eggs...BUT see cons.

Cons: Device had issues from day 1 when any macro that used shift/ctrl/alt + any other key. Ex: shift+g. When using such a combo, about 25% of the time, the shift/ctrl/alt key of the combo would NOT be sent / recognized so it would do whatever action the key without the key would do (minus 1 egg). That wasn't enough for me to send it back since it didn't happen all the time. As of last night, 23Dec2015, the mouse movement started stuttering while playing a FPS then stopped responding altogether. Unplugging it and re-plugging it in "fixed" the issue for about 30 seconds and then it started again. After about 5 mins of this, the mouse then finally died and has not had any lights, doesn't move the cursor, and none of the buttons work. Windows also reports "USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." I get this same error/failure message on my Win7Pro x64 HP cheapo/kids laptop, Win8.1Pro x64 custom built desktop, and my Win10 Pro x64 HP Elitebook W8770 so it is NOT the computer. I have also tried it with and without the Utech drivers installed and get the same failure. (minus 1 egg for failing in the first year, minus another egg for failing before 6 months)

Other Thoughts: When it worked, all the button options and DPI on the fly adjust were amazing. But since it didn't even last 6 months under light use (2~3h a day on weekends, maybe an hour a day during the week), it has a SEVERE life-span issue. My trusty 2 button Logitech LX3 from over a decade ago has re-replaced this mouse.

4 out of 5 eggsOk gaming mouse

Pros: The mouse feels good in my hand, it's not made for a toddler. The scroll wheel has a nice feel to it as well, and stops firmly when you want it to.
Lots of buttons is nice for basically all gaming -fps, rts, even Minecraft.
The software is very easy to use to map the extra buttons, as well as easily make macros for them. The option of multiple profiles, which can be cycled through via the mouse itself is also really nice... if you need that much functionality.

Cons: A massive issue for me is the 3rd button (scroll wheel button), for me it is waaaaay too stiff. I've only found one way to position my hand so I don't move the entire mouse when clicking it. If purchased at full price, I would've returned it for this reason. Also, I would actually prefer maybe only 9 extra buttons. For most games you simply don't need 22 programmable keys (including keyboard), and being so small and close together, 4-9 are basically useless if your intent is to use them instead of the keyboard. If there were only 9, it would leave more options for a better layout on the mouse.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend this to someone, but only as an intro gaming mouse, and never at full price. I'm keeping it, but wouldn't purchase another.

2 out of 5 eggsThumb buttons

Pros: The mouse has tons of nice features.
Great, very small lift-off-distance compared to the Logitech competition.
Very comfortable, ergo design.
Extra mouse feet - fantastic.
Excellent price.
Weight system - nice addition.
CD included - unusual these days but well received.
Software - tiny install. No log into to a cloud so we can spy on your every move. Thank you!
The right and left mouse button clicks are very tactile.
Hardware saved profiles - profile switch on bottom of mouse - Love this!
My accuracy improved immediately in QuakeLive.

Cons: Major:
The side/thumb buttons are practically unusable - They are very hard to press - have to really mash them to make contact. They are positioned too close together (remember I have small hands) which makes for a lot of mis-clicks. The alternating button angle doesn't seem intuitive when you try click the buttons. For example, the 45 degree cut button makes it feel like it needs to be pressed at an angle rather than straight down.

This for me is what killed the deal. I bought this to replace my aging (and repaired) Razer Naga for MMO gaming. Once you get used the 12-thumb-button way of life, you'll never want to go back to a regular mouse again.

Minor:
Lowest DPI is 1000. Needs to go lower.
The lighting has a flicker to it. Like LED Christmas lights.
The scroll wheel click is too stiff.
The scroll wheel feels somewhat loose (side to side movement).

Other Thoughts: The mouse is very large. The lid on the box is magnetized - interesting.

I can't be bothered to RMA it. I might keep it as a Quake mouse, sell it, or simply chunk it in my pile of old mice.

My suggestion to UTechSmart: Spread out and flatten the thumb buttons. Change the switches to mechanical or at least reduce the force needed to press the buttons. Do this along with the other tweaks suggested in cons while keeping the price reasonable = Destroy the competition!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing for the price

Pros: Solid feeling buttons
Customizable lighting
Thumb and ring finger rests

Cons: If you have dry hands it can be a little hard to hold onto at certain angles
Mouse buttons are very sensitive (could be a pro for some people)

Other Thoughts: I figured for the price this thing was going to be super cheap, and that is not the case. I decided for $30 it was worth a shot and man am I glad I bought one. The number pad on the side comes in extremely handy for MMO's or any game where you have a hotbar, and the programmable fire button is awesome for fps games and many other things. If you're looking for a budget gaming mouse, or you're just cheap like me, look no further!

1 out of 5 eggsCool mouse...lacks QA

Pros: nice feel & fit, dpi function is good, teflon pads are nice....after 1 days use seemed ok.

Cons: the yellow colors went white after 1 use, would not go yellow again....I asked for RMA. Went with a Logitech...hope it is better product.
