Pros: I've had the ZX1 before I lost it, so this is how the ZI8 compares:

- 720p 60fps is great on both in bright conditions, but I think the ZI8 performs better in low light. Also the ZI8 has a wider angle when shooting 720p, so it's more suitable for filming inside a car. The 1080p is more zoomed.
- I like how it shows how much recording time you have left with in each mode, the ZX1 didn't do this.
- Image stabilization actually helps a bit. On the ZX1, you could not walk and shoot a smooth clip, with the ZI8 you can. (If you walk slowly)
- Face detection is cool, and it picks up faces easily.
- Audio input.
- Bigger screen (but I'd prefer a smaller screen and more battery life)
- USB charging (this is a big deal for me)
- macro mode for close up
- it's wider but thinner than ZX1, it feels more natural in my hand.
- photos are actually of usable quality, assuming you have enough light.

Cons: - face detection didn't work on my dog

Other Thoughts: - 1080p works but it's only 30fps, so if there is a lot of motion in your video, the 720p 60fps is better. 1080p videos look very good if you can put the ZI8 on a tripod and point it at a fixed frame, otherwise stick with 720p 60fps.

- unless you need the slight "weatherproofing" of the ZX1, this is by far a better pocket camcorder.

- both record in h264, so they are fully compatible with an out of the box mac and youtube.

4 out of 5 eggsPart fell off after 1 week

Pros: - Best shooting in 720p, 60fps no other small pocket cam has this
- SDHC slot allows expansion, rather than fixed storage size
- external mic jack

Cons: - needs a lenses cover/case, does not come with one
- image stabilization hardly works
- short battery life, buy more batteries

Other Thoughts: - after 1 week of use the ring around the lens and the small piece of plastic covering the lens fell off, now trying to find out how to get a replacement unit...build quality in question....

2 out of 5 eggsCan use as webcam? No

Pros: small, lightweight. does 1080p. video quality is good, really good for the size/price of the unit.

Cons: can't be used as a usb webcam. when you plug it into a computer, the video capabilities stop and the thing turns itself into an expensive SD card reader. Why bother even putting a USB on the thing when they could have just included an SD card reader in the box instead.

Other Thoughts: those pop out USB connectors are useless. I had to buy a USB extension cable.
