4 out of 5 eggsServes it's purpose

Pros: Good price.
Lifetime maps.
No need for any accessories. Windshield mount included, good enough for me.
Have not had system crash when updating maps that others have mentioned, but then again I take my time and don't try to rush through processes. First update took a while. Updated maps are fairly accurate - I deal with a lot of new subdivisions.
I like it's small size. I don't need a small TV on my dash telling me where to go.
Finds routes very quickly.
Has other features that are neat (fuel economy, max speed - fun, avg time moving, etc) but I will probably never use.

Cons: Don't care for the keyboard, not qwerty.
Also don't care for having to enter the city for every address that I look up. After 3 months of use, I have had to enter a different city maybe twice out of at least a couple hundred entries. Maybe with other models you don't have to, I don't know

Other Thoughts: Bought this as an aid for my second job as a pizza delivery guy. Does pretty much what everything that I wanted it to do. One thing that I useful that I haven't seen mentioned is that you can enter a destination along with a stop before end point. Very useful. Probably on all gps' but as this is my first one, I feel it worth mentioning.

1 out of 5 eggsGOT RIP OFF BY NEWEGG

Pros: small size .....

Cons: no real time traffic, screen is too small, does not have eco-route feature, short battery life.

Other Thoughts: i was wondering why newegg was offering this at such a discount price, i had to call Garmin on tech issue and found that this model came out in early 2008, i found a Garmin® nüvi® 1200 GPS Navigation System for 79.99 with free shipping to a store near you. the model numbers go up with newer model so 255 is much older than 1200 which came out in 2011. When i did my first software update it corrupt all my favorites due to the old software from 2008 and when i updated with 2011, the new software was not compatible with 2008. so you are buy a model that is 3yrs, should have some research before i bought this model. i guess newegg needed to dump their old inventory. so do some research before buying a product on newegg or any electronic device - they come with new models frequentely. kind of hard to keep up new products.

3 out of 5 eggsnon-qwerty keyboard :(

Pros: It seems more quick than my widescreen/slightly earlier more.

Cons: Small screen size is a bit difficult and the non-qwerty keyboard makes field-filling quite difficult for me. The Garmin UI still needs a lot of help. Also, no voice selection as other models have.

Other Thoughts: Wasn't a bad deal, especially with the lifetime maps...I may just use the map part of it for my widescreen now though.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Extremely accurate maps.
Great satellite signal.
Points of Interest are extremely handy and fun.
Has lots great features and you can't go wrong with unlimited map updates.
Nice loud clear voice that tells you where to go and keeps you updated so you don't accidentally miss your turn.
Very easy to setup and get going.

Cons: Nothing major that I can think of. You do have to download Garmin's addons for your browser and follow their instructions, all of which were incredibly simple and don't seem to interfere with regular browsing (using Firefox).

The map update process for my slow internet took about 3 hours, a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Other Thoughts: This is my very first GPS and I have to say I love it. I've only drove around town with it, basically just playing and getting a feel for it. I was surprised at how extremely accurate the road maps were on the go. Living on the far outskirts of town in the country, the map had pretty much every little twist, turn, even just the minor curves in the road my little country road has.

The accuracy surprised me more than anything. When on a highway, when there's a change in the speed limit, it's not even 1 full second after you pass the speed limit sign that the GPS updates you with that new speed limit. I'm sure this is all pretty standard on many GPS systems anymore, but I feel like I've been living in the dark ages for not having one until now and even the most simple features impress me at this point. I do love it and am going to have lots of fun planning trips with it.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For the money, great buy. Got this for my father and set it up for him. He loves it. Lifetime maps is a must since you can pay $40 to $60 for a map update otherwise.

Cons: Vehicle suction cup mount doesn't work very, had to go out and get one.

5 out of 5 eggsWish I got this sooner!

Pros: Very nice! Found all sorts of new shortcuts when driving across town ... many that I would have never previously considered. Loaded it with Red Light camera warnings, and that's really neat. Easy to set special addresses for friends and businesses, or to mark special locations (e.g. parking spot in a park). Can show you everywhere you've driven with colored lines on the map.

Cons: Sometimes it gets you close to a business, but only to the spot on the major street or road. You've got to navigate through the parking lot, and some parking lots seem to confuse it (it doesn't realize that I'm at the correct business). Also, it tries to route me on the toll roads, but I just ignore it, and it does it 'recalculating' thing.

Other Thoughts: Newegg is spoiling me!

Love Newegg when I get that 1 day (overnight) delivery when I order 3-day! I think the secret is to just order 1 or 2 items. Luckily, I live close to a local warehouse. But, I notice that when I place a large order (more than 5 or 6 items?), my shipment comes from across country and takes up to 6 (or more calendar) days.

My secret: Order small quantities, and order often!

2 out of 5 eggsAnnoying quirks

Pros: -

Cons: Setting this thing up so far has been a pain.

In order to register it, you need to install a plug-in into your browser, which claimed it was going to interact with websites that you visited [no thank you]. I would have preferred a stand alone desktop application. Now that I'm done with registering, this plug-in isnt even showing up in Google Chromes extensions, so I don't know how to get rid of it.

Then I can't easily find out how to figure out what version of the maps are on the device when you upgrade maps to tell if it worked. Again, a standalone desktop application would have been nice where you could just plug the device in, and it would tell you everything about it (firmware version, maps on device, map versions, etc.).

I tried re-upgrading the maps, but it just wants to go through the entire download, configure, install process again (50 minutes)

Other Thoughts: You do get most recent map upgrades when you register, but to me its expected that anything you buy should have access to the most recent maps.

Also, there are simply too many GPS models/versions/options/maps/upgrades that Garmin provides. I feel like I would need to follow the GPS scene 24/7 in order to make an educated decision when buying a GPS device.

I'm giving it two stars, because these are grievances that I want to avoid when buying things.
