4 out of 5 eggsNice...but!

Pros: Has lots of features that include bluetooth, MP3, and the like. MSN direct is more detailed letting you know, for instance, gas prices and the date those prices were sampled. Comes with all accesories that you may otherwise have to buy separately. Leather case and dashboard disc are examples of those accesories.

Cons: The route function could use the options available at Mapquest. In the avoidances menu, you can only set to avoid certain obstructions such as toll roads. It would be nice for the system to give you the option of finding the quickest route or the shortest route since they are NOT usually one and the same.

Other Thoughts: I have been reading reviews of people getting corrupted maps while trying to update to Mapview 2009. Make sure that any USB devices in your PC that are considered storage devices are disconnected or turned off. I had that happen to me. My multifunction printer was plugged in and the Mapview update was trying to upload to my printer and it kept failing. Lost all maps on the Nuvi. Turned my printer off, and it worked just fine. Doing the Mapview update will take about 2.5 hours. Plug it in and take a nap or something.

5 out of 5 eggsEXCELLLLLENT

Pros: Best GPS I have owned yet. Bluetooth link my phone, and have it FM transmit over my car stereo. SO, SO, SO nice. Works like a standard GARMIN product, easy. Splash screen, great idea, makes all my gamer friends envious, great screen resolution and color. Good for keeping family pics as well.

Cons: Have not taken the time to access/activate the MSN service yet. The voice system sometimes cuts off long names. Trying to find a POI at a destination is a two stage process, Set destination, find (near) then what type of POI.

Other Thoughts: Have already strongly recommended it to 3 others. MP3 player as well, not that valuable to me since I have Sirius Radio as well.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat GPS, MSN Direct problemsome

Pros: This is a great package when you consider the options (va other nuvi GPS's) that are included in the 680. The value of those included options is easily ~$170 if you had to purchase them separately.

GPS seems to be very accurate so far (understanding that no GPS is 100%). Having the AC Charger included is a plus for tinkering with the nuvi 680 indoors.

Cons: The MSN Direct service was problemsome to get working. MSN's coverage map for your area can indicate you are good to go, but not actually provide signal connection. The MSN Direct signal is FM. After you have done the MSN authorization thing, make sure you are within the orange shaded zone in their coverage map to get a good signal. I had to drive about 12 miles to get into the orange zone even though my home was well within the overall zone on the map. At my home. there were no green bars of strength to MSN Direct, but once inside the orange shaded zone of their map I had full strength and the MSN Direct info began to update the nuvi.

Other Thoughts: The first thing you need to do is connect the nuvi using the included USB cable, go to Garmin's website (Support page) and install all the updates. MSN Direct (for example) would not work without these updates. The AC Charger for the nuvi 680 connects into the same port on the side of the nuvi as the USB cable does. The manual does not talk about this or show any info on where to connect the AC Adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent GPS

Pros: Great screen.
Accurate, simple and fast.
Nice user interface.
Traffic and weather is nice.

Cons: Must be plugged in to the cirgarette lighter to use the traffic function.

Other Thoughts: I think this product works just as a GPS should work -- accurately and simply. The screen is outstanding. The computer is fast doing recalculations and so far, no misdirections. The only fault I find is that the device MUST be plugged in to the cigarette lighter to use the MSN traffic and weather functions. I did not realize the FM receiver was in the charger and not the device itself. This somewhat defeats the "cordless" aspect of the device. But it's so much better than OEM systems in cars -- not to mention quite a bit less expensive.

Pros: Easy to use right out the box.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Purchased the Garmin 680 1 week before taveling to Atlanta and South Carolina form LA. Road around like I knew the town. The best investment I have made in years. As always makes the fastest delivery on the internet.
