5 out of 5 eggsWorks as intended !

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: It works as intended. I was somewhat scared of buying this product because of very bad reviews people gave it. But i have to say i am very well pleased. I tried to make it crash or overheat (using a lot of torrent connections @8mo/sec) and couldn't... the thing is robust!. I'm also using a ps4/2x iphones on wi-fi and works as intended. Style is elegant, i love it. Antenna bars are stylish and the overall feel of the product is quite positive in my opinion. Installation couldn't have been any easier, really. Plug it in, get in the settings and boom, 2 minutes later i was surfing. I have to say that my internet feels way more responsive than before, i had an old DIR-615 and whenever i would reach over 2-3mo/sec on a torrent i couldn't watch any youtube videos or even browse the internet. With the nighthawk, i just start anything and it just keeps up with whatever i want to do. Lights are not too intrusive, it's a low contrast white which is fine. overall 5/5

Cons: The only con i could find is that the thing is "large" but i already knew it so i didn't care since i have so much place on my desktop.

Other Thoughts: There have been so many bad reviews, don't go and think that everybody has gotten a bad experience with netgear's nighthawk. From what i've seen, it performs quite as described. For 200$ shipped to my door i couldn't pass on the offer.

5 out of 5 eggsNo issues - works great

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: Seems pretty fast. I'm don't follow all the details and technical specs but this router has no issues with speed for me. It covers my entire 4000 sq. foot house with WiFi and streams flawlessly over 5G to my bedroom Samsung smart TV. I am a pretty basic user from a feature set perspective but I really have no issues with this router. I like the auto firmware download/update feature.

Cons: none really. Maybe its a bit large in size or the antennas are slightly larger.

Other Thoughts: I don't use the USB port drive for file sharing or even the guest wireless network. I'm a pretty basic user. I wired my two primary TVs to hard line Ethernet then just use the wireless for cell phones/personal devices, my work Macbook (5G), and the Samsung smart TV in my bedroom (Netflix). Don't expect to run everyth9ng wireless. If you plan to spend anytime in your home invest in running some Cat 5e cable to your major TVs or entertainment centers - don't expect wireless to support more than 1 TV streaming HQ video well.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother short lived Netgear router

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: Worked very well for a year and a half

Cons: 2.4 GHz wi-fi died after a year and a half. This is my second Netgear router that died in the same manner in the recent years.

Other Thoughts: Considering the price tag, such a low life expectancy is unacceptable. It looks that Netgear is using short lived components to make their gear. Switching to more reliable manufacturer.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Tomasz,

We are very sorry to hear that your R7000 stopped working. Have you tried upgrading to the latest firmware?

1 out of 5 eggsNetgear is a failure...

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: ...Great wireless range, that's about it.

Cons: Boy where do I start. Bought this router at a big box store approximately a year ago, have had to update the firmware approximately 4 or 5 different times. Netgear keeps pushing out botched firmware updates. Advertised as a Gigabit router, but the CPU is so weak that you can NOT achieve more than ~350Mbps from LAN to WAN, even with the stupid thing in AP mode, it still processes traffic on the CPU, can ONLY get Gigabit speeds on the WIRED LAN SIDE OF THE ROUTER, THAT ADVERTISES A GIGABIT WAN PORT.

Today, for some reason after about 200GB worth of data was transfered over it, it just died... LAN port 4 lit solid orange, nothing hooked up to it, works for about ten seconds after it reboots, then lights port 4. This is the THIRD Netgear router I have had in just under 2 years, no more. EVER. Netgear can do nothing to satisfy me at this point after they have shown that a router like this that costs so much lasts a shorter period of time, than the cheap low end Netgear that I purchased back in 2008. Fool me once, Fool me twice... You get the idea. Stay away from these over priced poopy "routers".

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsWorked for a year

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

2 out of 5 eggsWired vs Wireless

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: looks, Can handle 8 wireless eletronics with ease simple setup at full speed and bandwith of my internet bandwith(TWC 30 down and 5 up but i get 35 down and 7 up) no drops. the Ui is not what i am use to but it works

Cons: I like to stream and Game on my PC. My PC is directly connected via wire. I notice a gradual decrease in my speed sence installation, i will get spurts of speed to my full bandwith, but it hovers around 11 Dn and .5 up and atm down to 2 Dn and wait a yr Up. Tired reseting it, tried changing connection to one of the 4 ports. im better off using wireless items than my pc for internet.

Other Thoughts: Mounted to the wall, well ventelated area, the room has yet to hit 80 degrees. it started off great now im down to snail pace. I got this router because of the deal, (free modem) which is beter the the on Provided By TWC, i might have got a bad egg, so im not condeming the nighthawk just yet, if it wasn't for the con it would be 5 eggs.

Manufacturer Response:

Helllo Michael,

We would like to get you 100% satisfied and are sorry for whatever has caused the R7000 to stop working. 3 out of 5 eggsWorked good for a while. Good range on ground floor

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: I bought this to get a longer range than the sub-par 2Wire 802.11b/g modem/router that AT&T gave me.
I set it up with no problems and could even download 4k video samples on Youtube to my Samsung phone from 6 houses away without any problem.
I also liked the built-in parental controls which is something my 2Wire lacks. This has lots of filters and customizable settings for web content.

Cons: The bad thing is that I didn't see any improvement on the second level of my home. It was as bad as the 2Wire.
I also didn't get a sold signal to my BluRay player for streaming Netflix, though it could have been my BluRay's wireless capabilities there. I finally bought a PowerLine pair for that - which worked great.
I'm not sure how other routers are, but we had a power outage and when I got power back, the Netgear failed to power on. I metered the 12V adapter and get the correct voltage so I'm sad to say that after only 7 months the router is dead. I pressed the power button on back and only get a faint blink of the LEDs and nothing else. Very annoying since nothing else on that circuit had any problems coming back up, and I was on a quality surge suppressor - and the SPD did it's job evidenced by the fact the power supply still worked. You'd think a router at this price would have some better built in protection on the data lines.

Other Thoughts: I'm upset that I had to switch back to my 2Wire for wireless until I shell out more money for a better router. Based on the other reviews, I don't think Netgear service will be any help since I'm passed 90 days.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Aaron,

We will be happy to help you after the 90 days under our hardware warranty. You no longer have phone support after the 90 days, but you can email us at newegg@netgear.com for help. Simply email us with what you've described above and the serial number of your R7000.

Our apologies,

NETGEAR Team

4 out of 5 eggsDecent wireless router.

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: For two weeks it's been pretty solid, no reboots or drops.
The android Netgear Genie app is VERY good.
Decent performance.
You can turn off all except the power LED.
Good web interface.
Working VPN and DDNS clients.

Cons: I think the Netgear Genie app for Windows could use some work. The android app is excellent for doing a wireless survey to find what the neighbors are using for channels, and how it impacts you. I recommend looking at all the apps and the built in web server setup to see all the features. Using an Intel AC7260 in a NUC, had to tell it to prefer the 5ghz band, but that is not the router's fault. Almost everything else is just a little bit better than my old N300 router, but the clients aren't AC.

Other Thoughts: I only give this 4 stars, since only a couple of my clients can take advantage of it. So, it's better than I had, but only marginally.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid router, worth the price

This review is from: NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (R7000)

Pros: It took a while to convince myself to spend the money on this one as I've never spent more than 2 digits on a wireless router but it was worth it.

Signal range is very impressive. I live on a third floor apartment and it's still at half signal strength if I take my phone outside and across the street.

The Web Admin is decent. Supports IP Address reservation (based on MAC Address) and Port Forwarding, which are honestly the only two things I absolutely need from the software.

I have CAT6 cables run to 3 desktop computers in separate rooms and file transfers between them is lightning fast.

Antennas are solid and vents for airflow are adequate.

Cons: Occasionally needs to be rebooted, but what wireless router doesn't? I've dealt with far worse over the years.

Other Thoughts: Works great with Roku 3, PS3, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Macbook Pro, iPhone, iPad, and Android phones all connected at once. I've had it since May 2014, and it's been solid.

This thing looks like a space ship!
