5 out of 5 eggsEveryone should have one

This review is from: UNITEK USB 3.0 to SATA and IDE HDD/SSD Adapter with on/off switch and 12V/2A Power Adapter and LED Indicator

Pros: It worked exactly as expected. I had one new 2TB HDD and one old 120GB HDD that someone gave me. I was able to connect both of them using the adapter. It was as simple as plugging in the USB, the power, and attaching the HDD.
Once that was done I was able to format the HDD's and copy stuff over, all without having to open up my computer before knowing that they work.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Everyone should get one of these. It's really convenient and saves a lot of trouble removing and installing your storage devices. Everyone I know worries about getting new drives that are DOA, so this makes it really easy to check. It was also convenient for me to copy files over from my friend's internal HDD without having to install it.

5 out of 5 eggsNifty device

This review is from: UNITEK USB 3.0 to SATA and IDE HDD/SSD Adapter with on/off switch and 12V/2A Power Adapter and LED Indicator

Pros: Pretty nifty. I would have prefered toaster-style, but couldn't find a well-rated one. Each edge of the device supports a different interface, which covers all existing interfaces at this time. Small body fits anywhere for storage, such as my field bag.

Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggsA lot less than expected

This review is from: UNITEK USB 3.0 to SATA and IDE HDD/SSD Adapter with on/off switch and 12V/2A Power Adapter and LED Indicator

Pros: It's USB 3.0
Inexpensive - got it for $19.99
Has desktop and laptop IDE besides SATA

Cons: My 8 years old noname USB 2.0 adapter works off USB power and needs AC only for 3.5" desktop drives or CD/DVD. This one wants external power supply all the time, even for laptop drives.

It uses a microUSB3.0 cable, and its receptacle seems filmsy. I bet it won't live more than a month or two, if you're going to plug the cable in and out at least once a day. So better plug it in and never take out.

Casing is made of thin plastic, looking like it can be broken just by squeezing with two fingers. Of course I hope it couldn't (since I never tried!), but it looks so.

The status LED is bright. No, it's BRIGHT, burning out my eyes!!! You could use it as a flashlight, if not the need for external power.

Other Thoughts: Almost everything was done the worst possible way. Was it such a problem to make casing a bit thicker? Why it has 2 different DC jacks instead of just one molex? Was it so difficult to use standard USB instead of filmsy micro one? A not-so-bright red or green instead of phreakin' blue LED? Arrrghh...

Taking all above into account, it is almost useless for being a part of my onsite first aid kit. Have to stick with old 2.0 one which gives 30-40Mb/s at best.

And sending it back seems not worth the hassle.
Total disapointment.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

This review is from: UNITEK USB 3.0 to SATA and IDE HDD/SSD Adapter with on/off switch and 12V/2A Power Adapter and LED Indicator

Pros: Works with all sorts of drives. Does just what it says. Device is a USB 3.0 where most are only a USB 2.0.

Cons: If you are using the IDE, the power cable that comes with it is very cramped and tricky to connect. Not impossible, just tricky. You ahve ~1.5in of cable and need to make a tight right turn to the IDE on the side. Alternate option is to use an external power for the IDE, almost is simpler.

Other Thoughts: Fantastic little device minus the goofy power cable issue.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

This review is from: UNITEK USB 3.0 to SATA and IDE HDD/SSD Adapter with on/off switch and 12V/2A Power Adapter and LED Indicator

Pros: Clocked an IDE 133 drive at 60MB/s sequential!

If the product lasts a while testing hard drives like I hope, it will be the best IDE to USB 3.0 adapter on this site!

A laptop SATA II drive was read at 80 MB/s.

Comes with all necessary cables.

No connector adapters needed.

Cons: The 4-pin power and USB cables are shorter than I'd like, but they can be replaced.

Other Thoughts: Tested speeds with CrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 x64 on default settings on an Asus P8Z77-i Deluxe motherboard without turbo boost installed.

5 out of 5 eggsMUST HAVE for every tech toolkit

This review is from: UNITEK USB 3.0 to SATA and IDE HDD/SSD Adapter with on/off switch and 12V/2A Power Adapter and LED Indicator

Pros: FAST, inexpensive, good quality, on/off switch, reliable.

Cons: none so far...

Other Thoughts: Haven't played with it enough to see what the ''backup'' button does but I run a computer repair company here in California and this is a must have product. Inexpensive, yet runs like a champ. Originally i had another hd adapter which got the job done but flimsy and cheap. While plugged into a drive, it wasn't exactly flush and just a slight nudge or bump would disconnect it. That was my biggest issue, that and speed. So I wanted something a little more solid, faster and reliable. And for just a few bucks more, Unitek came to the rescue. Only time will tell the durability/reliability of this unit but thus far, i'm very happy.

5 out of 5 eggsMUST HAVE for any tech toolkit

This review is from: UNITEK USB 3.0 to SATA and IDE HDD/SSD Adapter with on/off switch and 12V/2A Power Adapter and LED Indicator

Pros: FAST, inexpensive, solid connection, on/off switch & does the job well!

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Haven't played with it enough to see what the ''backup'' button does but I run a computer repair company here in California (Garibay Computer Solutions) and this is a must have product. Inexpensive, yet runs like a champ. I was originally using a ''BYTECC BT-300 USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Adapter'' which was cool but flimsy and cheap. The Bytecc, while plugged into a drive wasn't exactly flush and just a slight nudge or bump would disconnect it. That was my biggest issue, that and speed. So I wanted something a little more solid and definitely faster. And for just a few more bucks, Unitek came to the rescue. Only time will tell the durability/reliability of this bad boy but thus far, i'm very happy.

5 out of 5 eggsFast USB 3.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter

This review is from: UNITEK USB 3.0 to SATA and IDE HDD/SSD Adapter with on/off switch and 12V/2A Power Adapter and LED Indicator

Pros: USB 3.0 speed for old spare SATA I/II/III and IDE Hard Drive. Has its own power adapter so will not load the PC power supply. Connect and disconnect hard drives without shutting down the computer.

I am able to get 160 MB/s average and 190 MB/s peak for moving large files between the internal Seagate SSHD and the external SSHD on a SATA II only computer. I am getting same transfer speed from the Unitek USB 3.0 adapter as I get from direct connected to the Motherboard SATA II port. Just amazing !!!

Cons: None so far. Bought this so I don't have to open up my PC every time I want fast backup or data transfer with the internal SATA port. May be con is that Unitek did not have an adapter that convert a Motherboard SATA I/II port to two USB 3.0 ports. I could use one since my old computers do not have any available PCIe slots and PCI only has typical USB 2.0 speed.

Other Thoughts: This unit saves me a lot of time. I was using USB 2.0 adapter for my old hard drive and it takes 21 hours transfer 2 TB data because I can only get 24 MB/s average and 25MB/s peak. I purchased another unit so I can move data between 2 SATA drives. This USB 3.0 adapter gives me about average 90 MB/s sustained transfer speed from SATA II drive and average 50 MB/s transfer speed from SATA I and IDE drive. This is an appreciation shout out to Unitek. Your adapter works well and saves me a lot of time.
