5 out of 5 eggsUnitek Y-3023 Cloning station

This review is from: Unitek Y-3023 3.5" and 2.5" HDD / SSD SATA Dual-Bay Docking Station with Clone Function, USB 3.0 HDD Clone Docking

Pros: Works Great

Cons: Takes 2-hrs for a 1TB clone.

Other Thoughts: My wife loves her old Win XP professional computer I built her years ago, and won't change over to one of the Win7 or Win8 systems I built, so I use this Unitek cloning device to make hard drive clones for backup purposes, and it has always done a perfect job of complete cloning. It is a life saver, and a time saver. You just press the buttons as instructed and walk away until it is done. Awesome tool. I haven't tried it yet on the Win7 or Win8 systems though. Big SSD drives are still too expensive for that luxury <grin>.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Hard Drive Docking Station

This review is from: Unitek Y-3023 3.5" and 2.5" HDD / SSD SATA Dual-Bay Docking Station with Clone Function, USB 3.0 HDD Clone Docking

Pros: Very easy to setup & use, it is USB 3.0 which takes a lot less time especially on very large drives. Light indicators shows your progress, & the clone function works great. You don't have to have your computer running to clone another drive. This is one of the best docking stations I have used in my IT Business. It saves me a lot of time on copying drives. USB 3.0 is the way to go. Highly recommend.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: This docking station will save you a lot of time copying hard drives. Just make sure it is USB 3.0 because it does make the difference.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Clone

This review is from: Unitek Y-3023 3.5" and 2.5" HDD / SSD SATA Dual-Bay Docking Station with Clone Function, USB 3.0 HDD Clone Docking

Pros: Makes a perfect clone, boot record and all, no matter the partition type, very quickly, without having to be plugged into a computer. All it needs is the original drive, a new equal or larger size drive, and power. Perfect for cloning an internal computer harddrive without having to deal with bootable cd software.

I could tell that the single 2TB hard drive in my Buffalo network storage was starting to fail (it had been running continuosly for over three years). The partitions are formatted as RAW, which are not mountable in Windows. My goal was to clone the old drive onto a brand new drive before the old one failed. I had attempted to use both bootable cloning software and cloning software installed in Windows. Both options have historically worked for me, but neither worked in this case. I bought this device to try cloning the drive and it worked perfectly. The 2TB drive was completely cloned in under 7 hours. The newly cloned drive is now plugged in and running like new.

Cons: Not really a con because I knew it when I bought it, but the dock doesn't have eSATA, just USB 3.0. That's getting pretty picky though for such an otherwise great device.

Other Thoughts: If you need to make a clone of any harddrive, this is the device to use.

It is also perfect for upgrading your system hard drive, for instance from a 2TB to a 4TB drive. Keep in mind though if you do this, you will have to go into Disk Management in Windows afterwards and expand your primary partition to fill the empty space on the drive.

Also, one thing to keep in mind: two identical cloaned drives cannot both be mounted at the same time in Windows. So if you clone your system drive onto a new larger drive and then want to still use your old smaller hard drive, you will have to first reformat it in order for Windows to mount it.

5 out of 5 eggscool

This review is from: Unitek Y-3023 3.5" and 2.5" HDD / SSD SATA Dual-Bay Docking Station with Clone Function, USB 3.0 HDD Clone Docking

Pros: Works fast and great as dual SATA external drives.

Cons: Drivers aren't loaded automatically and if you are not very savy could be confusing on loading drivers from CD.

Other Thoughts: Didn't use the clone feature but I will in the future.

1 out of 5 eggsspins up drive. but will not mount

This review is from: Unitek Y-3023 3.5" and 2.5" HDD / SSD SATA Dual-Bay Docking Station with Clone Function, USB 3.0 HDD Clone Docking

Pros: It does spin up the drives you plug in to it

Cons: Unable to mount any drives to an actual computer. Drive spins up, but the USB device does not get recognized (win7 and win8)

Other Thoughts: haven't tried the clone function yet. but given how badly the main function works, I wouldn't trust it.
