4 out of 5 eggsWOW. refreshingly good. I am impressed so far

Pros: Gorgeous screen. I was actually surprised how nice the screen is. Nice mount. Day time performance as expected is good. Night time performance is actually quite fantastic! very impressed with its night time performance. I also found out it DOES have a lock button. Just press "mode" while recording and it acts as the lock button.

Cons: DOES NOT USE H264. that is my biggest gripe. so you need the max it can handle 32gb card just to hold 4 hours of video.

While the mount is nice I do which It would tighten more. its hard to press buttons sometimes without "moving" the ball joint causing you to have to move it back.

It is picky about its power supply. not sure if its coded or just power hungry.

Other Thoughts: If your not going to use H264 please design to support 64gb cards. I like having 8+ hours of "lag time" to play with. Otherwise You can not go wrong for the price. Very responsive no lag good quality recordings day and night. One of the best "cheap" dvr's I have purchased yet. Enough such that I will probably purchase a couple more.

2 out of 5 eggsNOT H264 uses wasteful mjpg

Pros: Nice design nice mount Nice layout. Decent screen decent low light performance so far (will have it in car tomorrow)

Cons: IT IS NOT H264 which is precisely why I bought it. will not read a 64gb card so you max at 32gb which means no more than 4 hours video at any one time. (over 110mb a minute) with extremely wasteful mjpg compression.

NO lock button. so I can't "secure" a recording that I want to keep for later. Combine this with the horrible mjpg compression eating up memory card space and the LACK of naming files by date and time and your going to have fun extracting a desired recording from this.

IF they function reliably I will keep them for the price but if they don't function reliably they are going back.

Other Thoughts: my biggest gripe is the listing flat out lies and states its h264 when its not. its MJPG which makes a simply huge difference regarding how much video will fit on the memory card.

1 out of 5 eggsComplete Garbage

Pros: I'm going to reuse the window mount, that's pretty solid.

Cons: This camera is garbage. It lists lots of features but is exceptionally light on execution. Let's start with the power situation - it will never stay charged.

I have it plugged in all the time and it will generally turn off about an hour after I have it on. My car charger is a 2.1 amp that charges my ipad air fine, does this require that much more?

Next is retention. I got this thing so I could have it running whenever I'm driving. I set it to loop every 10 minutes, I'm on 720p resolution and have a 32gb microsd card in there. Twice the thing has filled up and I had to re-format.

The g sensor is garbage. No matter what sensitivity, I would stop and it would turn of the recording; mixed feelings what if I'm hit or witness something when stopped? Regardless it would never start up again when I started driving again.

I have yet to actually get a recording off the thing. My mac will not recognize the camera when I plug it in, I have to take out the microsd and plug it in elsewhere. Windows sees it fine. The thing is, when I want to get a recording there are about 20 directories and they are ALL EMPTY! I have NO IDEA what it's doing when it's recording.

Let say it was recording fine, there is no way to save a recording, just turn off the device. I haven't actually tested this because I can't get a video from the microsd!

It took nearly 45 days to ship from China. I dunno if I can even get a refund, nor what it would cost me to process one.

There is no place to contact for support, the box and instructions are completely non-descript. I can't even contact a company and ask if I might have a bum unit.

I really wanted a simple dashcam that I could set and forget. Well, I'm forgetting about this one because it is simply junk.

1 out of 5 eggsBad start but expected based on other reviews

Pros: The camera looks good, the options on LCD screen look good but it stops there ... see cons for why

Cons: Just received the camera yesterday, opened the package today and power it up and .... oups 2 of the button are not responding ("Arrow down" and "Mode").
I tested the other button and they beep when pushed, the camera will start and ask for a Mass Storage SD card but no response to pushing "Arrow down" or "Mode" and the buttons will push inside the case almost all the way in (like someone forced them in)
I shake the camera a bit to see if I can hear something and oh surprise, I can hear some noise (like a loose part)
Bottom line this product is broken brand new out of the box and the kicker: they manage to put to Quality Assurance passed sticker on it where any human been checking it would have seen the broken button
So either someone at the factory broke the button when checked the camera and placed it in the box as good or they did not even check

Other Thoughts: What would you expect from something coming from Malaysia at $32 that took 3 weeks to arrive
now let's see the fun to get my money back or a quick replacement that works without paying shipping charges

1 out of 5 eggsjunk

Pros: good size, looks like quality made, nice button layout, nice easy to understand menu functions.

Cons: poor quality build, cant turn off screen or back-light and runs hot, wont run any power supply over 1 amp 12 volt without crashing, constantly goes back to default settings.

Other Thoughts: iv'e seen better quality units that are comparable, this is junk.

3 out of 5 eggsDVR Camera

Pros: This unit is small, lightweight and pretty easy to setup to a point. It has a pretty decent picture. You can zoom in and out and get a good wide angle. Note that when zooming in, the resolution does not enhance, it just makes everything bigger. I got this unit for like $33.59 so I gave it 3 stars because it does pretty much what a $30 unit should do to a degree. If you want something for basic recording without needing to be able to make out the plate numbers

Cons: The DC adapter stopped working the morning of the second day I owned it. The fuse hadn't blown, it just stopped working. It was easily replaced by my old motorola car charger. Even at the highest resolution it was hard to make out a plate number on the video from the car in front of me even stopped at the light. The power plug in is located at the top of the unit which makes it a little awkward to plug in and have the cord curl and drape down across the unit. The motion sensor is not very sensative, it will turn off recording until a vehicle passes by or you get right up on another vehicle. Also the motion sensor will not turn the unit on and start recording. If the motion sensor stays idle for too long the unit will power off and then you have to manually turn the unit back on. The micro SD card will not go in or remove by simply pushing it in with your finger, I have to use a dime or key to get it in and out. It would be a pro that its not that easy for someone to remove, but a con because its not so easy to put in or remove.

Other Thoughts: None of the cons I have listed are overly major issues, but things you should know when purchasing this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstadning value

Pros: Does everything a car camcorder is supposed to do; is very compact; the quality of the video is very good; good on-screen controls; standard USB power.

Cons: As with many such products (from China), the manual is poorly written and with such wide range of configurability, you need a good manual to be able to make proper use of this complex device. The low-light sensitivity is rather poor and the IR LED's don't seem to do anything. The video format is MJPEG and not H264, as claimed, which gives for about an hour of recording per 8GB (at 720P), so you'll want a large-capacity micro SD card in there.

Other Thoughts: First of all, I wish Newegg would let us edit our own reviews so I could come back and update it. Right now I have a broken arm and I wouldn't be able to fully test and write a detailed review for another month or so, but I wanted to quickly write a review because this product is an outstanding value:
The price of this dash-cam is on par with the cheapest on the market yet its quality and features are comparable to the best examples out there. It does almost everything you'd want from a dash-cam, at a level that is perfectly acceptable, for one of the lowest prices you'll find. The only way you'll need more than this product offers is if you have been through a few of those and have become quite the expert, and, most importantly, you're ready to pay a lot more for it.

I highly recommend this product if you've been wanting to get a dash-cam but are not quite sure what to except from such a device. Just be prepared to do some research on how those work and experiment with the controls to figure them out.

I'd write a detailed product manual, but the risk that Newegg would stop carrying this product is too high for me to put the time in it.

2 out of 5 eggsGet What You Pay For

Pros: Cheap camera. If it worked it might be worth the money.

Cons: Doesn't work. Memory card will not stay in, keeps popping out.

Other Thoughts: Ships directly from Shanghai If they got their act together with quality control maybe it would be worth something.

4 out of 5 eggsReplay looks great

Pros: I've got this / purchased direct from China / delivered in 8 days / works very well - took a 3 hour trip and recorded half on the unit / played it back when we got home and it was stable and has the resolution to be used in court if required. Recommend.

Cons: Only time and use will tell but it feels fine.
