5 out of 5 eggsBest Modem/Router I've Ever Had

Pros: I purchased this to replace my 7th or 8th Westel modem/router (which was Always unreliable & running Hot) that had been provided by Centurylink. (I went through at least 2 Westel modem/routers per year & always a LOT of downtime!

So glad I purchased the TP-Link TD-8817 because I've had Zero downtime and this little gem does Not run hot.

This is the first TP-Link Modem/Router I've ever used and I plan to stick with this product Brand due to the continual Uptime & it's ability to stay cool all the time.

I'd recommend this item to anyone needing a Modem/Router.

PS. I've had better luck with the TP-Link in nearly one month than I did in 6 months of using any Westel provided by CenturyLink!!

Cons: None!

5 out of 5 eggsDoes exactly what you want it to do

Pros: Nothing much to say other than it's been very solid for me. Works great bridging to my router and handling DHCP by itself.

Cons: Nothing that's really TP-Link's fault. You really can't know what VPI/VCI setting to use unless you contact your DSL provider. Do not think that one VPI/VCI setting will work for your provider just because its working for someone else on the same provider in a different area.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't attempt using a 3rd party DSL modem unless you have at least some intermediate networking knowledge or know someone who does. Otherwise you're looking at a big headache.

4 out of 5 eggsDo not use for true uverse

Pros: Looks amazing

Cons: At&t u verse doesn't use a user name and pw. Modem Model NVG510 cannot be replaced by this as at&t is using some other sort of authentication and refuse any non at&t modems on the new build outs.

Other Thoughts: Id love to return the 2 I bought to newegg but, wouldn't be morally right as I opened and tried them. After having the manager of the manager of the area come out due to the drops in our service we confirmed that these cannot be used on at&t lines. Seems at&t is moving people off pots to save money but, additionally forcing people to buy at&t modems. Not very happy about that. Also pretty sure if someone wanted to you could get into the modem and find out how they are connecting to at&t and reprogram this modem to work. However I cannot risk it as then my business would have no reliable internet without paying for fiber.

5 out of 5 eggsTD Link DSL Modem

Pros: Very easy to install, works like a champ straight out of the box. Installation cd walks you through the install, couldn't be easier.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Newegg is the best! Super fast delivery. I have been a customer for 10+ years and have yet to be disappointed.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Very configurable, I suspect it can work with any ADSL service. It seems to have discovered my ISP's DSL settings very easily with no tweaking. Seems fast and stable. Inexpensive.

Cons: User manual doesn't explain the many configuration options as well as I'd like (but no worse than others I've seen). Some aspects of the configuration are confusing. Port forwarding cannot be whitelisted for only selected remote addresses; if you forward a port it's available to the whole internet. (No worse than my other big-name home router in that regard, but it's a feature i miss from the modem I originally got from my ISP.)

Other Thoughts: On the whole I'm very pleased with this modem/router, especially for its low price. It's not perfect, but I've never seen one that was. Bottom line, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap, but works great!

Pros: Works great, simple compact physical package. Exactly what I was looking for. Incredible price.

Cons: Case feels a bit chintzy, but I wasn't expecting much.

Configuration was a touch odd. There were options that I still don't understand. But I just put in the stuff I knew and disabled everything else. and it is working great.

5 out of 5 eggsAT&T DSL

Pros: Works with AT&T ADSL in Northern California (Bay area). Took a chance and am glad, as it is cheap, at half the price of other DSL modems. Hasn't overheated yet.

Cons: Installation is a little confusing, didn't work with the included driver (CD). Also tried USB but I had to install the USB driver, hidden in the CD Rom. The web interface is confusing and very hard to understand, and manual doesn't explain much. I have installed and used many different routers and opensource (openWRT,tomato, ddwrt, etc) firmware, but this was very confusing. Not sure if I still have port forwarding correct. Also the web interface loads very slow. Could be due to slow processor.

Other Thoughts: Installed manually (by going to instead of using the included software, which kept failing. Running ADSL 6Mb/768k. For some reason, the included phone cable didn't work when phone was plugged into the DSL filter. I used the one given by AT&T and it worked fine.

3 out of 5 eggsGoogle DNS routers

Pros: In a review someone suggested users choose Google's public DNS servers but gave the wrong IP address for the second server. The addresses are:

The Google DNS servers are and;

not and

Cons: this is not a review so no comments

5 out of 5 eggsGood product!

Pros: Works great, very stable, fast, good web interface. They provide tons of info on how to set-up for which ISP you have.

Cons: Can be a little hard to set-up depending on your ISP, but not the modems fault.

Other Thoughts: Would pick this over most other modems.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with CenturyLink/Embarq - Flawless

Pros: Highly configurable...
Connection was established automatically...

Cons: None...

Other Thoughts: Reviewers writing negative feedback regarding compatibility with Centurylink/Embarq are experiencing other anomalies, i.e. not following guidance on initial setup.
