5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

This review is from: SONY Alpha NEX-7/B Black 24.3 MP 3.0" 921K LCD Compact Mirrorless System Camera - Body Only

Pros: Amazing IQ
Clean ISO 1600, 3200 very good and 6400 still acceptable
Features and more features
Customization
Easy to use
Easy access to most common functions
Small for factor

Cons: No dedicated video mode
Overheating may occur while filming
Lack of high end lenses
Some minor menu quirks you'll need to get used to
Minolta hot shoe

Other Thoughts: Aside form the video issues I really don't see any major draw back to this camera. And since most of us are getting it for still this makes a fantastic little system. I've owned this since December 2012 and have had nothing short of amazing pictures after pictures. The kit lens is ok and will get most started.
The camera is quite fast with 3 FPS in continuous focusing mode or 10 FPS in speed more (focuses on the 1st shot). It has a max shutter speed of 1/4000 as well.
The fact that I can program what function is in what button makes the user experience a breeze, really amazing that I can change my ISO, Aperture, Shutter speed, White balance, Metering mode, Flash compensation and more all without diving into a menu and all at the touch of a button is something hard to live without now. This camera makes it very easy to change settings on the fly, cannot emphasize this enough.
There's a NEX 7n in the works and should be released in the coming months. My recomendation is to buy this one once the price drops. The new one will have a 24MP sensor with a rumored 1/2 stop better performance, if you can live without that and with the other negatives I mentioned I think the price will be justifiable. The wifi feature found on the newer models according to many is nothing more then a gimmick.

I found a nice deal on a Rokkor 50mm 1.4 and that's the lens that's been glued to the camera most of the time. That is another great thing about the NEX systems, adapting vintage glass like this is easy to use with the Focus Peeking feature, pictures are SHARP!! I scored my copy for $55 plus $15 for the adapter and I'm getting higher IQ then the SONY 50mm 1.8 for e mount. You can adapt All kinds of glass onto this thing, love it!!

I do wish SONY would hurry up with their promised G zoom and I wish their line up was a bit more mature. Zeiss is also releasing a few other lenses this year, I think a 30 and an 85 (maybe another one not sure) so we're slowly getting a good line up, even Sigma and other 3rd party vendors are jumping in.

All in all a fantastic machine. Compact and delivers IQ comparable to most APS-C DLSRs out there. If you're into photography pick this up, if you want DLSR quality pictures but won't be taking it off Auto mode, may I suggest the NEX 3 or 5 instead.
