5 out of 5 eggsBought as a Gift

Pros: This was purchased as a gift for someone as they were going on vacation and wanted a new camera, something that they could really zoom with and that had a decent image stabilizer. Without getting technical, this camera takes quick, high quality, clear pictures on the automatic setting and manually making changes, although a bit confusing at first, can improve the quality. The zoom range with this camera is fantastic and the image stabilizer does a great job of keeping the pictures clear even when shaky hands and a large zoom are factored in.

Cons: Not worth taking any eggs off for, and some may even find it a pro, but this camera is very light, so much so that it tends to feel rather cheap and fragile.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a great camera for someone who likes to snap a lot of pictures, goes on a lot of trips, but doesn't feel like spending the money or effort into SLRs

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Super zoom point and shoot with lots of creative options.
Beefy battery looks like it will not give up after thirty photos.
Seriously powerful zoom.

Cons: If you're looking for a pocket camera, this is not it.
If you're looking for a full-blown pro camera, this is not it.
I REALLY wish they had thrown in a case and added ten bucks to the price. C'mon.

Other Thoughts: This is an affordable yet powerful camera. As an amateur who just wants a no-hassle way to get a good shot of... whatever... this really hits the sweet spot for me. It arrived from Newegg on the same day as the full moon and one of the first shots I took was the moon, in maximum zoom (120x) and no tripod (!) I took about four shots and kept the best one, which is a gigantic disk with craters and seas and nearly fills the photo. NICE.

4 out of 5 eggsJust wasn't for me

Pros: Nice features, and that super-zoom.

Cons: No articulating display. Overall toy like feel of the Camera.

Other Thoughts: Shame on me for not noticing that this camera did not have an articulating display like my Cannon SX20. Even so I would have kept the camera except that it felt like a toy compared to the Cannon. This had nothing to do with features, but the tactile feel of the camera and controls. I recognize that this may be just my bias after owning a series of Cannons, and being used to how they feel and operate. In any case, I RMA'd it through New Egg's excellent customer service department. I then ordered a SX50 ES. I'll have to get by with only a 50X zoom. :-)

4 out of 5 eggsAdvanced P&S

Pros: Fast start up, low lag
Big zoom range (extra wide 20mm to extra tele 1200, 35mm equiv)
Clear LCD
Sharp lens for a P&S
Dizzying amount of features, e.g. an automatic panorama mode (but only at 20mm).

Cons: 1. Small apertures, as expected for a compact zoom P&S, but particularly at the telephoto, the aperture range is f/5.9 to 8. No amount of optical image stabilization (OIS) is going to help at 1200mm with that combination of aperture and reasonable ISO. And the OIS in this camera is nowhere near what a DSLR or even the Olympus OM-D cameras can do.
2. Sensor is small to accommodate a reasonable sized super-zoom camera, so don't expect great low light performance.
3. Non-tilting LCD makes it harder to shoot off angle, but the LCD has a relatively wide field of view.
4. Non-touch screen LCD. Unlike Panasonic m4/3 cameras which had touch screens even a few years back.
5. Electronic View Finder (EVF) is bright, but not high res compared to the GX7 (a $1000 camera), and the eyepiece is hard plastic. No rubber cup accessory from Panasonic as far as I can tell.
6. Switching between EVF/LCD is manual--there is no eye sensor for auto switching. The manual switch is easily located within the right thumb's reach.
7. Tripod mount is offsetted from the lens' axis by about 2.5cm/1in. This matter if one is trying to do panoramas manually.
8. Raw files is a proprietary format, may not be readable by your software. Even between various Panasonic cameras, there are different versions of their RW2. The included software (SilkyPix) is hard to use.

Other Thoughts: Great advanced point and shoot camera. With its long zoom range, it is a grab and go camera that is capable of great results if you take into account its limitations (see Cons section). You can search for other professional reviews.
