5 out of 5 eggsFIRST DAY

Pros: Easy setup
Good mouse
Good scanner with slick software!

Cons: None, yet.

Other Thoughts: I have never before submitted a review before using tech product for a couple of months, at least. But this works just as advertised. A local genealogy society is pushing a 4" by 6" battery powered flatbed scanner for document research -- at $250 and up, depending on the package you choose. I bought this mouse/scanner on sale for $46 from NEWEGGFLASH, and it is not limited to that 4x6 bed. It should scan an A3 doc with my 8GB, i7 laptop. I tried it out with the shipping invoice, which had a variety of fonts, font properties, and both paragraph and tabular layout. It scaned flawlessly. I pasted into three Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1 Writer files. In the first, a JPG looked exactly like the original invoice. In the second, I used the drop-and-drag. It pasted in a read-only section. Some lines and the barcode were missing, there were minor font and formatting errors, only two spelling errors, and a table that was somewhat misaligned. All content but the barcode were there. The text in two straightforward paragraphs were spot on. OpenOffice allowed me to remove the read-only restriction and I was able to clean up the spelling and some formatting. In the third doc, I used the Paste button on the menu bar at bottom of the software window. It pasted unformatted with fonts the word processor chose and the barcode was missing. Some content needed rearranging, but it was otherwise there. Bottom Line: the scanner works well and the software is key. Even at the regular $80 price on NewEgg, if you want a very portable scanner with your laptop, give this strong consideration. I simply didn't find anything close. Afterword: Be aware that for some old, light-sensitive documents, libraries may not allow you to use any scanner to copy info. Best fallback is a digital camera without flash.

5 out of 5 eggsvery cool little gadget

Pros: I love this little thing. Everything I've tested comes out great. I bought this to replace a flat bed scanner that quit. I don't use a scanner everyday, so not having to dedicate desk space to another machine is a huge plus. (I didn't have any problems with the cord.)

Cons: Thick edges (hard cover book cover) not so easy. You will need to surround the cover/book with something the same thickness.

Other Thoughts: Recommended, especially if you have limited space.

4 out of 5 eggsFun novelty on a mid-09 MacBook Pro

Pros: Quick install, basic software, very intuitive design.
Out of the box, I was up and running within minutes. There isn't a whole lot of excess, which is nice. The mouse functions as you would expect. The scanner works much better than I thought it would. When scanning something, it works best with a smooth continuous swipe, but even if you lift the mouse, move it too quickly or twist it side to side, it finds itself quickly once you pass back over an area you have already scanned.

Cons: There is ZERO support for this product on the LG website. Software comes on a CD (seriously, when can we start getting software on USB or SD card?? My CD drive is junk so that took a little work...). There are a bunch of "Apps" that come with it. I don't know what they do and don't yet have a use for them, so I uninstalled them. The cord is a little stiff, but not as bad as others lead it to be and it is plenty long once you get it stretched out. OCR will only export to a .doc file, does not let you edit text within the image. The OCR works well for the most part, but occasionally has trouble with very simple recognition tasks.

Other Thoughts: I haven;t used it for anything important, but it did well on all my little tests. Is it a replacement for a flatbed scanner? No. But it is ultra-portable and has great resolution and functionality for what it is. A good purchase over all. -1 egg for the junk in the software and lack of online support.

3 out of 5 eggsNice but meh

Pros: So the ability to scan almost anywhere is awesome. The mouse works great as it supposed to as a mouse. The tracking is very smooth and works just about anywhere. The scanning software is very user friendly and easy to use. Works great on windows 8 and scans small things well.

Cons: The scanner is difficult to use. This lost 2 eggs for me because I have a laptop and have been trying to use this mouse to scan a standard 8.5x11 paper and its next to impossible to get it go scan straight. I had intentions to use this mouse so I didn't have to carry a scanner with me but for standard paper which I normally need to scan I can't so back to carrying the scanner.

Other Thoughts: Found it at a great price and works for small things so it is worth investing in but if you need something to scan documents all day stick with an AIO or flatbed scanner.

4 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely worth the money

Pros: -Good controls
-The software is pretty intuitive
-The OCR software is pretty good even with distortion from book spines
-Easily portable

Cons: -Mouse cord is too thick and stiff. It gets in the way if you're scanning a book in cramped quarters.
-The scan software randomly starts overwriting the stuff you've already scanned, even if you're passing the scanner over those areas
-Edges can be a bit difficult to work with
-It doesn't move smoothly over some types of paper
-The OCR program randomly messes up some things like "I" while getting complex things right
-The software installs a lot of useless add-ons whenever you update it

Other Thoughts: Bought this on a whim to digitize some old, out of print books in my collection after years of frustration with regular scanners. After some initial learning curve pains, my mind was blown by how easy it was to use and how accurate the OCR is most of the time. Definitely worth the money if you're looking to make your own digital copies of books, pictures, or other documents. The only improvements they can make that I can think of are a larger scan aperture (but keeping the mouse size the same), a thinner cord or a wireless connection, and the ability to post text as HTML.

4 out of 5 eggsWhat a surprise (in a good way)

Pros: Easy scanning of all kinds of things. The scanner window is offset so you can scan in towards the crease in a book with full contact. You can easily make the image upright so no problem. I love the portability. I was on the road and needed to scan and send a doc. No problem.

I love that it connects the pieces automagically. I had a portable handheld years ago and you had to be very careful to align each pass.

OCR and tablization are cool features that I have not had the need yet to test.

Cons: stiff cord. This is my major complaint about this device. I would not like a cord that stiff with a mouse and with the scanner it is even more in the way. The only drawback I have seen with this rodent. I took off one star for this fault.

It is OK as a "regular" mouse, but I would rather use my normal curved side mouse.

Other Thoughts: I am impressed. I really doubted it would do what LG said it would do and was pleasantly surprised to find a winner.

I would look for it on sale to make a good deal even better.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice mouse/scanner

Pros: I've had this mouse now for a few weeks.
Install was easy and painless. I have a Windows 7 machine and it installed the mouse right away. Driver disc comes with it to enable you to scan images. Very easy to use the scanning feature to scan an entire page or just a section if that's all you want. After you are done scanning, you can edit the size of the picture you want to save to your pc and can even drag the scanned image to a word document and it will turn it into text. This is great!!! I have found a few fonts where the software had a hard time with a few of the letters but 95-99% are perfectly transcribed :).
The neat thing is that it also includes a share option to share on social network apps like facebook :). Shared a few pictures that my daughter drew with my friends.
The mouse has a shiny finish on it and looks super sharp :)
Couldn't be happier!

Thanks LG :)

Cons: Only thing I wish for on this is for it to be wireless.
