5 out of 5 eggsKeyCool 84

This review is from: Keycool II 84 Keys Portable Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (BLUE/RED/GREEN/YELLOW/WHITE LED Backlight Available) (Brown Switches, Green LED's+Breathing backlight)

Pros: Focalgadgets is one of the best dealers I have ever delt with, they got back to me really fast about the green back lit being out of stock, they informed me without me having to ask that they come with the non cherry mx switches. (that still feel really good) their costumer support kept emailing me back through the weekend and the package delivered from Asia to my house in seattle wa in exactly 7 days. what more can i ask for it was a really pain free and quality purchase.

Cons: maybe the fact that it has the Kailh Switches but they still feel very nice and responsive.

Other Thoughts: I have to praise Focalgadgets, it has been a very painless and quality purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsstill good after weeks

This review is from: Keycool II 84 Keys Portable Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (BLUE/RED/GREEN/YELLOW/WHITE LED Backlight Available) (Brown Switches, Green LED's+Breathing backlight)

Pros: Okay, this is the good stuff, I have left it on for quite a while at times to see if anything overheats and blows out, nothing has gone out.

All the LEDs are still on and bright. I checked out the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) to check the level of soldering skill used and found that almost all the joints are up to industry standards with the exception of some of the LED light bulb connections of which there are usually two to a switch.

Been gaming heavily some ten hours at a time with this keyboard, being retired has bonuses, heh.

The few solder joints I found fault with were apparently done by a semi-skilled worker probably after some LEDs burnt out during a burn-in test, which to me is a good thing that they go to the trouble to do that in this holiday season when they must be elbows and back of knees to the wall producing to make the money to stay in business. Kudos for that. It does seem to be a company that really tries to get ahead by quality of reputation, and for that, I like the company. Tho, see below for a small sour note.

Cons: I am still looking for some device or script or program that will allow me to decypher the mysterious sentence in the overview section that states:

"Using advanced inverter technology, and full keyboard can be any mix of different voltages and different colors of LED lights,it can make players who like DIY retrofit to bring more humane modification configuration"

I realize that it was probably a translation of the original perhaps Mandarin dialect and MUCH better than I could achieve, however, I cannot find anywhere what they are talking about. Let me be clear, this is a worthy and good keyboard on its own without this selling point, but need to know how to modify it.

But I am curious and anxious to find out what they mean, cause I can solder anything just about, and awaiting word on whether or not to go ahead and do some mods on my own, knowing full well it will nullify my warrenty, beware others, this is true, don't solder or modify anything because they will not honor a warrenty, and no one could blame them. I just may take it literally, trusting the adverizing, as I should, and go ahead and add some different color LEDs and see if there is indeed majic in the circuits, perhaps the PCB has a different style feed circuit for each LED that will compensate for the voltage needs of the different colors, but all of my training says to change the operating voltage of the LED, I need to change the feed of the circuit in that it might be pulsing at 1 in 10 spikes per cycle to light the LED, and senses the resistance difference of a different composition of P and PNP material for different colors and changes the pulsing rate for those. Sounds even loonier after reading that. Oh, well, all I have to go on is my imagination.

SO, if anyone reads this, and I am looking at you Newegg, and has some inkling of an idea what they are refering to, let me know here or by email what you know, please, as I am anxious to shower even more admiration on a well built and performing keyboard that I heartily reccomend to anyone wanting a portable solid keyboard and is not held off by lack of a regular keypad (the IcyProfessor (heh) brand has a backlit model with a switchable regular keypad that is very well designed for those seeking a keypad and a portable keyboard as well).

Other Thoughts: This keyboard is easy to open to inspect and clean. Its clear plastic cable "KEEPER" on the back side is inspired, it is the best solution to cable and connector wear I have ever seen.

Just need a thin bladed dulled table knife like device that you can use to gently press sideways then out on the tabs holding the front on, and then the whole PCB is exposed as well as the sides and you can check for overheated areas should they arise. No screwdriver needed to inspect for damage. Kudos again. Only don't try to take the PCB loose from the backing steel plate, as they are one use twist keys that are not designed for more than one use, and shouldn't ever need to be opened anyway, even replacing switches can be accomplished without removing the steel backing plate.

Oh yeah, it is so darn cool to look at whist playing Far Cry 2 and 3 with my Grandson. He says it is cool too. Perhaps KeyCool.
