1 out of 5 eggsWas defective

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Price/GB of the drive is great if it works.

Cons: This drive was dead on arrival. I contacted newegg for a replacement and the replacement was also dead. Both the drives that were sent made a clicking noise. Windows could not create a GPT partition or an MBR parition and just showed an error when I tried to create one. I tried different SATA connections and different computers but both drives didn't work.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure this is a problem with the drives so much as a problem with how newegg ships hard drives. Both drives came in a small box and were packed in a bubble case with 1inch of padding around the drive. I don't think this is enough padding or boxing for a bare hard drive that is shipped. The packaging is enough for picking up a bare drive up from a brick and mortar store. But it seems like the drives are getting destroyed in shipping because of inadequate padding. I wouldn't buy anymore bare drives from newegg unless they change their shipping methods for bare drives. Luckily, I have shoprunner so the return labels were paid for, but it would have been infuriating if I had to pay return shipping twice for a drive that didn't work from day one.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning Strong

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Running as advertised.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Installed in a 2008 era PC. Gigabyte P35 mobo BIOS. ACHI found it, formatted with GPT in Win 7 64bit and have 2.8ish TB of storage space. Copied over roughly 1.5TB from the older WD Green drive with no issues.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap, high density

Cons: Ordered 4 and 2 were DOA. Starting RMA process. I have done this before and WD typically has a quick turn around.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Relatively cheap, low energy use storage drive.

Cons: I ordered 4 but one was DOA. I won't blame WD for this one though, the box took a beating during shipment and the drive that failed was in the impacted corner.

Other Thoughts: Kind of slow.

5 out of 5 eggsA Hikkikomori's Dream

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great transfer speed.
Stores all my Anime downloads and games.
Price $99.
Is not on when not in use. Saves power and last longer

Cons: Windows 7 Ultimate did not recognize it.
*Read other thoughts*

Other Thoughts: So I learned today is that, I have to format it because it is a Raw Disk. I think this might be the reason why many people are saying the disk is DOA.

I also think that many people are using this as a boot drive, personally I think it is a bad idea. This drive is designed for "LOW POWER STORAGE."
Which is what is said on the Spec sheet.

This is for storage guys, forget booting.

How to make Windows 7 recognize Hard Drives larger than 2tb:
1. Click Start then search "Disk Management"
2. Initialize the disk, make sure you select GPT****IMPORTANT*****
3. You should see your new hard drive as a black bar
"unallocated space"
4. Simply format it, partition it, name it Bob, whatever
5.After the it is all done there should be a pop up indicating a new disk.

3 out of 5 eggsTired of the excuses...

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Slow.
Unreliable.
Only a 2yr warranty.
Cheaper parts.
UNRELIABLE!

Other Thoughts: Seriously WD, quit making excuses! "Many variables that could affect the drives integrity between leaving our warehouses prior to being installed in a computer" HOGWASH!
You use inferior parts for the Green drives.
The packaging is decent, so I don't believe it is a handling issue. What's amazing is how the Blue and Black drives have the same packaging, yet they fail way less often!
Why not just drop the rainbow and just produce all Black drives! Problem solved (for the most part anyways)
You could sell them for less since you would only be buying parts to build those and maybe just maybe some of the customers that you have ran off with your unreliable junk might consider returning to the WD brand.
At one point I would swear by WD, but its a toss up now.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Inexpensive due to 20 off coupon, high capacity, runs cool, faster than expected, only 3 platters, quick delivery, packing better than expected, quiet.

Cons: Fear and doubt based on lots of negative reviews, short warranty.

Other Thoughts: I had to buy something as I needed more storage for my backup plan. Reviews for pretty much all HDDs are shaky, but sooner or later you have to take a plunge. So I did.

Packed in a box measuring 4 inches high, 6 wide, and 8 long, inside an air-filled clamshell that fit tight in the box so it couldn't move around.

It's 50% faster than the 1.5 TB Western Digital Green that it replaced.

It's about 10% faster than my primary data drive, a 3 year old Samsung 1 TB 103SJ 7200 RPM model. The density on these new platters really helps.

Running at 32 degrees C in an 81 degree F room, about 2 degrees cooler than the Samsung.

Ran WD Data Lifeguard Extended test before committing data. The test took 7 hours and showed no bad sectors.

Did a drag and drop copy of all my data from my Samsung to this drive. 573 gigabytes, 93543 files, in 126 minutes. This is 4.5 gigs per minute; 273 gigs per hour.

Full model number is WD30EZRX-00D8PB0. Made in Thailand, Feb 2014.
