4 out of 5 eggsWD 3TB HD

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Plenty of storage space.
Very quiet
Stays cool
PRICE (less than .50 cents per GB)

Cons: Transfer/Copy rates;
Large files (10 GB or more) approx 100mbs/sec or less
Small files (3 GB or less) approx 140 mbs/sec or more
Read rates are a bit lower than some other drives, but not that noticeable.

Other Thoughts: After 2 yrs of use for video/music/photo storage files, runs great, no problems so far, lost one egg for transfer rates.
BE AWARE! If you are using an older Mobo, you may have to partition this drive, as some older Mobos will only recognize 2TB HD's or less.
Actual space reads 2.72 TB's after installation. Still lots of space!

4 out of 5 eggsIn all fairness

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I don't have this specific 3TB drive but I have 2 WD20 EZRX and 2 1TB versions of these Green drives. The oldest 1TB are over 5 years old and still running fine, and the newer 2 years old WD20s are also running without any issues.
I never writes reviews and this is only a comment that you can't trust evaluation written by disgruntled customers. Every make of hard drive can have a lemon, but in my experience WD drives and in particular these variable speed Green drives are very good quality. When reading complaints by people with "high tech knowledge" reporting slow speeds you should keep in mind that ANY modern drive have higher physical transfer rates than USB 3 and even SATA III protocols. The bottle neck is always the hard drive connection protocols and not the drive itself. Only some high performance SSD drives (my Samsung 830 Pro 256GB comes close) have high enough electrical specs to fully utilize the SATA 6GB or USB 3 5GB max. transfer speeds.

Cons: I don't know of any cons.

4 out of 5 eggsWeed out the bad ones and make it last by following proper installation process

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Low Price and Surprisingly Good Performance...

Cons: High failure rate...

Other Thoughts: You need to go through time consuming process if you want this drive to last.
1. Make sure the PC is unplugged* (not just shutdown) and wait for a minute* (takes about 30 sec or more for residual power left in your Mother Board to dissipate) before attaching the new drive to your Mother Board (it will prevent power surge from damaging your HDD).
2. Use wdidle3 to change Power Down Time* from default 8 sec to 300 sec or disable it all together (repeated power down and up process will wear down you Hard Drive). You can find wdidle3 by Google searching (follow instructions carefully to avoid problems).
3. Once your hard drive is installed delete the existing partition and Re-Format* your drive (even if it's already formatted). I found that factory format causes problems down the line so make sure you use Full Format* process (not quick format) to reformat your new hard drive (full formatting also help identify problems in your HDD early on.)
4. After formatting process is done reboot and start testing your drive for any problems (used the full/long testing). There are many free HDD testing software you can pick from... my favorites are "HD Tune" and "GSmartControl".

It will take about 4-6 hours for full format and another 4-6 hours for HDD long test (format and testing time depends on your HDD Storage Size). It is time consuming process but once your HDD is installed and tested as instructed, it should last for years (you might want to invest on surge protection if your home is prone to power outage).

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Price?

Cons: DOA, and of course I waited 31 days to install it. Tries to power up and makes like a faint phone ring noise. Now it's off to deal with WD and get who knows what in exchange.

1 out of 5 eggsI wouldn't put my data on it if you gave the drive to me.

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: None.

Cons: Everything.

Other Thoughts: Installed into an, eSATA enclosure that I have used for years. When I tested performance it started out at around 80MB/s, then quickly dropped off to around 10MB/s, then 5MB/s, then 4MB/s..

Transferring actual files was ridiculously slow and made the drive completely useless.

Yes I have everything configured properly, I know what I 'm doing. I formatted it correctly with 4k sectors on Win 7 64.

I built this PC and my WD Black 1TB drives- all three of them, transfer data anywhere from 130MB/s down to 60MB/s on HD tune, average around 105MB/s.

This drive arrived defective and it is the only WD drive in my life that I have had problems with from new. I know that is cannot compete with WD Black drives, but 4MB/s? No, not that slow..

3 out of 5 eggsnot a terrible drive

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: The truth is this drive does have some good features and depending on your application could be a great drive for you, Intelipower is a great concept, very reliable

Cons: but when the drive head sleeps it kills performance spin up tims are not great, I originally wanted to use this to store hd Media but the head would read a portion and go to sleep then when I needed more data the dirve would have to spin up and couldn't get the data to the cpu fast enough. Could work for lower quality but for 3440x1440 or 4k the drive is no good for media, I even had issues with sound in movies running at 1080p.

Other Thoughts: Very reliable Drive for back up WD makes great drives just make sure that you buy the one suited for your use black or red drives for me from now on.

2 out of 5 eggsProduct Reliability is in the toilet

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Low price and power saving feature.

Cons: Unreliable... 1st one went dead after a day of use... replacement is on its way after a relatively painless RMA process from Newegg.

Other Thoughts: For those of you buying this hard drive, be sure to full format the drive (not quick format) even if it may take over an hour. For whatever reason factory format causes lots of problem (perhaps it becomes corrupted during shipping). Also formatting process help detect problem with the Hard drive (in which case you can RMA the drive quickly).

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: The pro goes to Newegg for replacing the defective Hard Drive as a trusted quality vendor should. They should get 5 eggs.

Cons: DOA. What else can I say?. The one egg rating is for the WD Drive and lack of quality control. I feel that's only fair since I have no other information to go with.

Other Thoughts: I have received the replacement and it has tested fine. We shall see for how long.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I've had WD Green drives before and been happy with them. The key to enjoyment is in knowing the limitations of the drive and matching them to the usage. In this case, I am using two 3TB drives in a raid for media storage. The slower R/W rates will not pose a problem for this application.

Cons: Bever had a problem with a WD drive: currently running 3 Caviar Blacks that are over 5 years old. I expect to replace them in the next year (age takes a toll) with new ones.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems here

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This is the second 3TB WD hard drive that I've ordered. Not a single issue with either of them. I order them 1 at a time for better protection during shipping, I handle my HD's as if I was handling nitroglycerine.

Cons: nada as of yet

Other Thoughts: Using them to store media so they don't get hit real hard. But after all. that is what they seem to be designed for.
I don't use RAID.
