3 out of 5 eggsFailed in 8 months

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT240GB-DX 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very impressed that this drive matched the performance of my 2.5" SSD. All laptops should use mSATA drives to free up their 2.5" bays.

Cons: Failed after 8 months of use. Usage was about 1 or 2 days a week, on all day for travel and work. Nothing excessive.

Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd review as I didn't see a way to edit my previous "5 star" review. It has been a superb drive for a very long time. Zero complaints! ...until it failed instantly.

Contacted Mushkin's email support and after jumping through a few more hoops than I remember from my last Mushkin warranty experience from several years ago, I finally got an RMA. I called to step it up to an Advanced RMA by providing a CC.

Well, it's been over a week and the drives are "out of stock in the warehouse with no ETA." So I continue to wait for my replacement.

They say that when an SSD goes, it goes like THAT *snap* - and they aren't joking. I was coding along with zero warning. All of a sudden a BLUE SCREEN and machine cuts off (which is odd, usually the machine writes debug info to disk).

Turning the laptop back on, and the Mushkin SSD no longer shows in the BIOS. It's gone. Way way gone. I've reseated the drive, moved it to another machine, etc without resolve. It's gone!

5 out of 5 eggsFast and Sleek

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT240GB-DX 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Significantly faster than HDD and plenty of space in a compact package. This SSD attached directly to my MSI Gaming MB through the mSATA port. Highly recommended!

Cons: None at this time

Other Thoughts: This is used as my primary boot drive which allows for amazingly quick restarts and almost instantaneous program load times.

Pros: Fast and reliable

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT240GB-DX 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: 90,000 IOPS
Crushes my previous MyDigitalSsd mSATA
Fits perfectly.

Cons: Not really a con, but you'd think they would put some type of protective shield around these expensive devices. Exposed memory chips and soldering joints on something that holds your critical data? #Scary

Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd mSATA drive in the same laptop. The first was the "first-to-market" MyDigitalSsd brand, which was so much better than any 7200 HDD I had in the laptop.

But now with this drive, wow Windows 8 boots in just a few seconds.

2 out of 5 eggsupdated review

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT240GB-DX 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: small size but with a large storage option. MSata gives you plenty of options due to the various Msata to Sata or MSata to USB enclosures (not to include these recent motherboards with msata controllers built in).

Speeds seem to be well enough, though when working, the reads are much higher than the writes (i'm not talking no 30MB difference either)

Cons: twice since owning from Dec 2012, i have had these go dead on me. Each time just prior to breaking, they get hot (like super nova hot).

I have tried several different means of accessing these drives (onboard msata controller & external USB enclosure)

Even when they were working, and no matter WHAT USB 3.0 port on any computer i owned, file transfers caused this ssd to get very hot to the touch.

Other Thoughts: I'm in the process of hopefully get the RMA honored again (honestly i asked if they would be willing to refund me my purchased price seeing that i've never been able to go longer than 3 months without one failing on me).

I honestly dont know what i could be doing wrong. I own countless SSD's, HDD's, and enclosures and i've never had so many problems with 1 device (this is also the only Mushkin product i own and looks to be the last)

Feel free to hit me up with questions or comments via gmailing my nickname

1 out of 5 eggsDied on me

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT240GB-DX 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I use this as my 2nd drive on my Lenovo T420s. Ordered it on March 28, 2013 through Newegg. The 1st drive is also SSD, but only 128GB. Got this pre-installed from Lenovo. Am using Win 7 Home Premium.

It's very fast. No complain about this.

Cons: Last night (June 10, 2013), suddenly I can't detect the drive anymore. Check through win explorer & BIOS, but no sign of the drive. I tried to detach the mSATA from the laptop & re-attached. But still nothing.

I'm not a heavy duty users. Am in panic coz I had my personal data there (mainly pictures & docs). I'm scratching my head now on how to go about this...

Other Thoughts: Any suggestions?

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,
We appreciate the feedback and we apologize for the issues you are experiencing with the drive. Please contact me at support@mushkin.com or 800-568-1868 for further assistance.

Thanks,
Briana

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome SSD

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT240GB-DX 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great Read/Write Speeds
Actual Speeds close to "up to" speeds
Reliability
Getting 8 second boot times in Windows 8

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: It took me a while to get it working. (At no fault but my own) If you plan to clone your old HDD to this, use Macrium! Trust me, I tried many others and nothing worked. I can see where some would think they got a bad drive. It is not all that easy to clone a HDD to a SSD. Don't give up, it works!

1 out of 5 eggsDied

This review is from: Mushkin Enhanced Atlas Series MKNSSDAT240GB-DX 240GB Mini-SATA (mSATA) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Worked great for six months.

Cons: BSOD at month 7
Disk check showed bad sectors
Ran three tests on drive - all came back the same...bad disk

Other Thoughts: Submitted for RMA - better get one with the Toshiba NAND instead of the Micro....read other reviews. (it will show that the chips are bad on the drive)
