2 out of 5 eggsDefective Out of the Box

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: I have used several WD products in my computers. This is the first major issue I've had.

Cons: The hard drive was defective and I have spent a month haggling with Western Digital's awful support service. It took them 24 hours to figure out the drive was defective and I still haven't seen a replacement.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Vibration, runs hot

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: None, Well, maybe "inexpensive".

Cons: About a day after the installation I noticed that the machine in which it was installed was emitting a low, but loud hum. The whole computer case was vibrating, and was causing the case parts to rattle and emit the hum. Feeling around, I found the source of the vibration and it was this drive. Diagnostics, however, showed nothing wrong, but nonetheless I know this drive is headed for failure.

I also noted that the drive temps were about 6 to 8 C higher than other WD drives in the machine, two earlier-model WD2002FAEX's which have been rock-solid for years.

Other Thoughts: I know you sometimes get a lemon, but I'm seeing a general negative trend with current HDDs. I'm having to return more of them, they are failing sooner, and therefore wasting more of my time dealing with them.

Do I have to spend way over $200 now for the old stalwart, the WD2002FAEX? Not sure where else to turn now - many of the older, more reliable 2TB drives have been discontinued.

4 out of 5 eggsNice drive

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Fast and large storage capacity.

Cons: No cons with the drive so far. Only item that wasn't included with the drive was a tip sheet reminder that the drive had to be initialized prior to use. I forgot that step for a while and needed a reminder from a friend. Once that was accomplished all was well so a reminder note packaged with the drive would have saved some time.

3 out of 5 eggsOut of times

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: 1. High speed than Red and Blue.
2. Working(track searching) sound is small(smaller than Red and Blue)

Cons: 1. Motor sound is large, especially when you turn off your computer.
2. The hard drive resonances with my case and vibration everywhere.

Other Thoughts: If you have an SSD as you system and working disk, the black is useless. You may use Red as a storage, which is better than green and more quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Works great, fast, quiet. I went from an OCZ PCIe SSD which I won't buy anymore after 3rd one died on me. Lifespan on this mechanical HDD is longer than an SSD, reliability is high. LOTS of SPACE for less money! Zero noticeable speed difference going from the OCZ SSD. I wouldn't buy anything other than this. NOTHING wrong with it.

Cons: I was hoping for a really loud 80's sounding retro hard drive, as so many reviews said it was loud. So I'm kinda disappointed it's not loud. I even have my case opened and I barely can hear it.

1 out of 5 eggsRecall this drive

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: NONE

Cons: WD has lost a large part of there business with this drive and should have recalled it last year. If they continue to sell it they will lose more business. They at least have a lot of drives to refurbish but some are not sending them back they just have given up on WD.......

Other Thoughts: USED TO BE A GOOD RELIABLE COMPANY

4 out of 5 eggsGood Storage

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Fast and Reliable for a Hard Drive, Def. would reccommend but then again i've only had it for a few weeks but ill try to update this if the drive fails shortly after but it shouldn't

Cons: When i received the hard drive i only received a anti static bag with it...why no sata cable? I spent way above $100 on this drive yet i can't get a $3 sata cable along with it? What about a manifacturer box? Oh well.

Other Thoughts: Good Hard Drive for the price...I prefer this over the Seagate ones.

5 out of 5 eggsEverything as expected

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: The drive functions as advertised. I installed it in an external enclosure and it has performed silently and flawlessly. It's data rate is excellent, and spins up quickly.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: The drive was well and safely packaged to prevent damage during shipping, and the carrier did not damage the box. Overall still impressed with the quality of NewEgg as a product provider and their choice of carrier.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Hard Drive

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: No-problem installation on a Sata 2 HD controller card. Although the HD is Sata 3, it adapted to Sata 2 without problem. This adaptation can be forced by a jumper on the HD pins, if necessary. But it was not necessary in my case. As far as longevity, we will have to wait and see.

Cons: None identified to date other than the somewhat higher initial cost.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these and both installed and worked without problem.
