5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: This is my 4th Samsung SSD. The Data Migration software cloned my Win 7 Pro perfectly. I used a Startac SSD/USB converter. I simply plugged the SSD into the Startac and the other end into the usb 3.0 port and used the Samsung Software to clone the OEM drive. I needed it fast and Neweggs next day worked.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Cloning used to be hard. The Samsung Software makes it easy. After it was cloned I used the Samsung Magician software to optimize it. It also re-set my bios to AHCI. Great product. Highly recommended. Trim is optimized as this is a 4th Generation Intel I7. Trim works with any I7 processor by Intel.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Placed order with Newegg July 14, 2014 and it was on my doorstep July 17th. Had it up and running around 4 hrs later. No special software was needed for my Intel DH87MC mobo to recognize the new SSD. I pressed the power button on my old Li Lian full tower ATX case, put the Win 7 Pro x64 in and Windows installed as fast or faster then any installation I've ever done. And, I've done a LOT!

Cons: No cons!! I did purschase a Roswill SSD drive mounting kit the same time as I bought the Samsung SSD. The internals on my system are just over 6 months old, but my Lian Li ATX case is around 9 years old. I had to connect the metal HDD brackets to the mounting kit for it to make a perfect fit. It was no biggie at all. Took maybe an additional 3 to 5 minutes max. Most of you reading this probably won't have to do any of this this. Back when I bought the case no one even knew what a SSD was.

Other Thoughts: Boot time; I'll be honest. I'm not getting the 15 to 20 seconds times like many others claim. But, I do have 8 other HDD's starting up which probably accounts for a few seconds. Plus, Intel loves showing off their logo for close to 4 seconds before the Windows 7 Start Screen appears.

Before the SSD; I was getting 80 to 90 seconds from a cold start. I press the power button and by the time the spinning circle on the desktop disappears, 80 to 90 seconds.

With SSD? Using a stop watch, 44 seconds. So, in my case, boot time is around 50% faster. Am I happy with it? Absolutely. The Samsung SSD is, without a doubt, the fastest drive I've ever owned.

A few years back I had a WD Raptor HDD. It was fast but not as fast as the Samsung SSD loading Windows. And, the Raptor went bad approximately 1.5 years later.

Loading programs; Faster? Most of them, yes! A couple are only marginally faster.

Installing programs; Faster? Yes, noticeably faster!

Why did I buy a SSD? 2 reasons. Speed and longevity. Speed was important but of the 2 reasons I'd have to give the edge to longevity. When you've had 8 to 9 HDD's filling the bays in your case for 9 years your bound to see several bite the dust.

What stood out the most for me personally? Look at the spec page. See the MTBF? Do you see what I see? 1.5 million hours. That's the acronym for Mean Time Between Failures. Do the math. Do you know how long 1.5 million hours is? The combined life span of 2 humans would be hard pressed to live that long.

Now, let's be realistic. I don't believe any SSD has the capability of surviving an average of 171 years. I do believe the Company that would get the closest to achieving that mark - at this moment in time - would be Samsung. I'll be ecstatic with a lifespan approaching 10.

I eagerly await the day when TB SSD's are in the $100 range. Ohhh, that will be so nice.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat driv3

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Good brand, great performance, no problems at all.

Cons: As with any SSD, they are still a bit spendy but the price is coming down all the time. Cant wait until 1GB is affordable.

Other Thoughts: I put this in a 7 series samsung I7 laptop. The laptop was great but with a very SLOW 5400 standard hard drive. Took nearly 2 minutes to boot and settle down. With this drive, from the power button to desktop is 17 seconds. Machine can really now perform as intended.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD, Bad Software

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast
500+ MB's Read and Write
Light
Cool looking
Small

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I tried using the data migration software that came with the SSD, every time It got to 100% migration it gave me an error code. So I had to use an acronis program for my 2 Terabyte WD HDD to swap the OS and other files.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Packaging Possible Fault In Unit

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: -None yet to be fair I have yet to install it on my system.

Cons: -Poor POOR POOOOOOOR packaging. Did not come in any anti static protective packaging
-NewEgg warehouse simply tossed the unit underneath several other things I purchased.

Other Thoughts: I bought a WD Blue 1TB platter HD at a cost of not even half the same as this unit. Now granted for an SSD 130 dollar is a good deal, however the 60 dollar WD Hard Drive came in this indestructible packaging complete with anti static wrap around it. This unit comes in a flimsy box with no anti static protection. Furthermore this unit was tossed into a larger box (granted I purchased several items at once so I expected this) underneath other products which weighed significantly more. I'm honestly afraid to plug this into the system i'm building. Perhaps I'll test it on my laptop first.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA 6Gb/s TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Faster than an HDD
Fast boot times
Start-up programs loading time
Easy setup / install
Great software both manager and clone.

Cons: not THE fastest SSD on the market, otherwise non what so ever thus far.

Other Thoughts: Been using the Samsung 840 evo for a little over a week now in place of a HDD for my OS drive and so far im sold. This is my first SSD and i,m really struck by how snappy it makes accessing programs as well as boot up times, so much so that i will never be able to go back to a HDD for a main drive.

Although this isn't the fastest SSD out there, nor is it the slowest, it's plenty fast for me as i don't really do anything that large scale to demand the fastest, i just wanted reliability back by a fair warranty at a reasonable price. At the moment i have got exactly what i was looking for with plenty of space to fit Windows 7, multiple programs and software with room to spare.

Samsung's Magician software was extremely easy to install and use as they give you plenty of information as to what does what and better optimizing your SSD. Samsung's Cloning software was amazingly simple and easy to use with zero issues at all. only thing you may have to do is check over your directories to make sure everything is looking where its suppose to, for me it was my WMP library which was looking for music in the original music folder that i left on my HDD, simple redirect from C:/music to F:/music.

In the end the Samsung 840 evo was just what i was looking for and so far is well worth it's price. Anyone looking for their first SSD should still shop around a dig up some info on what you may need but i would surely recommend this.
