2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Lots of Storage. Very fast for a lower RPM drive

Cons: Just quit working after about a year. No indications that it was bad, just stopped working. Doesn't spin up. Took about 3.7 GB of data with it. Hope my other 2 drives don't just quit working.

Better back up your data or use Raid 5

Other Thoughts: Drive seems like it has a high fail rate. Too bad, because it was great while it worked.

2 out of 5 eggsLot of space... but for how long?

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Storage of 4TB is plenty of space for a lot of games, and music.

Cons: I raided 2 of these 4TB drives together and within 2 months (end of July) one of them failed causing my raid to fall apart. First sign was event log errors, and when I would click on drives in my computer the computer would freeze up.

Other Thoughts: If you decide to go with this brand, just be weary you may end up with faulty hardware.

1 out of 5 eggsthe most godawful drive I've used in the past 10 years

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Large storage capacity

Cons: I've had this drive for a few months now, and I should have RMA'd it right off the bat. The day I transferred my media files onto this drive, about 500gb became corrupted and unreadable. Ok, I figured the data was old and could have been corrupt, no big loss. As months go on, I have been losing more and more data to drive corruption, and have no idea what is causing it. I can write to my other two drives (WD Black/Green) just fine, with no data loss. But it seems like every time I write to this Seagate drive, more of my older data becomes corrupt and unreadable. I had a few years worth of anime series, etc on there. So far I've lost over 1.5 TB of data, some of which I cannot replace. I'm honestly furious. I thought things were going ok, but I went back to view a video today that I'd viewed just 1 month previous (on this drive), and found that everything in its folder was no longer readable. Again, furious. I'm wary of writing new data to it because I don't want to lose it, and don't have a spare drive to write all the data to in order to save it.

Other Thoughts: This has been my worst technology purchase in well over 10 years (second only to two MSI motherboards), and I will never, ever, buy a Seagate drive again. The last Seagate drive I'd bought before this started clicking and died within 2 years, but it had been handled roughly and there wasn't much data on it so I didn't consider it a huge loss. I should have known better than to buy another Seagate product after my last experience, even though the reviews were largely postitive on this drive. But I'm sure that this purchase will have been the last. Will be buying WD and other brands from now on. Really disappointed, Seagate. You've lost a customer for life.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: It was somewhat cheap

Cons: Dead on arrival

Other Thoughts: I bought this HDD to backup another Seagate HDD which was failing. I've developed an ear for failing HDDs. They all start making clicking sounds. This HDD clicked right out of the box and I knew it was bad. Tried formatting it but nothing worked. I'm extremely disappointed in Seagate. I have had at least 10 of their drives fail. I have had no such problems with WD or Samsung. The only other HDD I've had fail are Maxtors. It's extremely frustrating to have to keep swapping HDDs out particularly if I use the HDD in a RAID setup. I'm pretty much done with Seagate now.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate Junk

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Junk

Other Thoughts: Unreliable.

I just replaced a bunch (6) of 3 and 4 TB Seagate drives with hitachi drives at a cost of over $1000.

When one failed outright at less than a year old we started looking at the others and found that ALL of then were showing signs of failure.

I will NEVER buy another Seagate drive.RJRiley

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in 3 months

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Can't think of any since it's dead.

Cons: Did I mention it's dead?

Other Thoughts: They sure don't make them like they used to. The older drives would run for years without problems. This big drive failed within 3-4 months of receiving it. Unrecoverable bad sectors. Seatools can't repair the damage. Returning to Seagate for warranty replacement. This is the second large capacity Seagate that's died on me in the last month. I'll be switching brands again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for streaming media

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Fast enough for streaming 720P content via Plex or CIFS
Fairly priced

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these to store media (movies, TV, music) for streaming over Plex and CIFS. I had some concern about the 5900 RPM speed being able to deliver 720p content to multiple concurrent clients but I've had no issues with 3 simultaneous clients.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Storage So Far

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD.15 ST4000DM000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Had it running 24x7 since 10/29/2013 in my ESXi host ruining as a backup Datastore.

Does what it needs to do. Be reliable, and store lots of data. No issues!

Cons: None!
