The Pawtec External Aluminum DVD+/-RW Writer will help you quickly create CDs and DVDs. The cutting edge Pawtec black color and design includes capabilities that you simply can’t find with other external DVD and CD writers.
The Pawtec External Aluminum DVD+/-RW Writer eliminates the hassle of waiting for your computer to slowly burn discs. The writer burns CD discs at up to 24x and DVD disc at up to 8x (see Technical Details below for more information on read/write speeds).
You don’t have to be a computer guru to use or install the Pawtec External Aluminum DVD+/-RW Writer. Its Plug-n-Play design works with any USB port, and there is no software to install or learn to use. As soon as you get your new writer, you can just plug it right in with the included USB 3.0 cord and start burning discs immediately. Benefit from the speed of USB 3.0 while still being backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.0/1.1. We also include a USB power cable to supply the writer with additional power, but you can easily use the external CD burner without it.

2.0 worked, not 3.0
This review is from: Pawtec External USB 3.0 Aluminum 8X DVD-RW Writer Optical Drive - Black
Pros: I was able to load software from a DVD on a USB 2.0 connection
Cons: This unit was purchased because it was advertised as 3.0. On my new Lenovo U530 3.0 connection the drive would be recognized/removed, back and forth in File Explorer. A 3.0 Samsung 500GB HD stayed recognized. Pawtec tech support suggested deleting the USB 3.0 driver, but it worked with Samsung, and didn't want to take a chance. Then suggested trying unit on another 3.0 outlet, but I didn't have another computer verified with 3.0, so ended up getting a RMA and returning the unit to NewEgg. Pawtec offered free return postage.
