4 out of 5 eggsDecent little speakers

Pros: Using this style of horn tweeter gives nice dynamics, making these speakers sound more like larger ones in some respects. Tonal balance leans toward the crisp side, the usual for Klipsch. These are very compact and the keyhole+threaded insert combo on the rear gives an excellent set of mounting options.

Cons: The 4" woofer on these just isn't big enough for these to have much much bass. Note that the frequency response is already rolling off at 85Hz. That means that even with the common subwoofer crossover frequency of 80Hz, these speakers will be struggling to integrate well without a hole in the bass response.

And these are fairly expensive for such a small speaker with limited bass output. I got my pair as part of a combo deal that made them quite affordable, and in that context I feel like they were a great buy. I don't know that I'd have been so happy with them at the regular price.

Other Thoughts: As rear speakers for a home theater setup goes, these are not bad. I wouldn't want to use them as front speakers even with a subwoofer, due to the restricted bass response. I think the upgrade from here to the RB-51 II, which has a big enough woofer to reach down to 50Hz instead, makes that model a better value even at its higher price. But if you want to optimize toward having smaller speakers, these aren't a bad trade-off, having much cleaner output at higher volume levels than most smaller speakers are capable of.
