1 out of 5 eggsPretty good...for about an hour.

Pros: -Price
-Force Feedback was great
-Newegg's Twitter support team sent me a message after I had ranted about Thrustmaster's terrible support.... So they get a thumbs up (see cons)

Cons: -Cheap pedals and wheel
-Motor died after about an hour of use.

I contacted Thrustmaster support via Email and never heard anything back after a week. Called the support number and was told to expect an email with a calibration program. It never showed up, so I sent another email and finally got a response. After jumping through a number of hoops, including sending pictures and a video of the issue, I was told to expect a new base. Today is the scheduled delivery date and it isn't here. They provided no tracking information, so I have no clue how it was shipped. The missed delivery might not be their fault, but given my experiences with them, they were probably giving me a 'best case' delivery date.

It has now been exactly a month since I started dealing with Thrustmaster.

Other Thoughts: I thought that I would get lucky and that there was no way my wheel base would die like so many others. I was clearly wrong.

If you decided to gamble on this, I suggest picking up the GT wheel addon and some better pedals after you know the wheel base works.

If yours dies on you, which it probably will, send thrustmaster an email, but make sure to include your full name, address, a picture of the serial # on the bottom of the base, a copy of your invoice and a detailed description of the issue. Also make sure you have the latest firmware and drivers. This will save you about 2 weeks of waiting on responses, as they don't ask you all at once....and take about a week to respond to anything.

Regarding Neweggs Twitter team, as stated in the pros- I had gone on a little rant about my poor experience with Thrustmaster. Without directly mentioning Newegg, their Twitter support team saw it and sent me a message offering help if I need it. I haven't bothered them or anything, but massive kudos for being on the ball!

Remember, you can't return this item to Newegg. I certainly don't blame them, but keep that in mind!

1 out of 5 eggsLooking for a good wheel? Look elsewhere.

Pros: It works. The plastic steering wheel, and the pedals are better than I expected. Its fairly quiet. The fan itself has a high pitched whine, but it kicks on and off as needed and I only noticed it after a race, or while in a pause menu. It didn't smoke or catch fire as some have in the past. Although I may set it on fire later on purpose.

Cons: When off and unplugged, the wheel turns fairly smoothly with a slight grainy feeling. When powered up and in use, the smoothness is gone. It feels like the wheel is attached to rubber gears with large teeth, and is very notchy. The force feedback itself is not smooth either. It doesn't transition well, and will go from almost nothing to a strong jerk during even a smooth light turn. Again, the steering feels almost gear like and couldn't be worse for racing. Also, during my first lap in game some buttons fell off the wheel and into my lap. I can put them back with super glue, but after throwing $300 away on this wheel I shouldn't have to, and its bitter icing on an already disappointing cake.

Other Thoughts: I own a G27, and even with it being gear driven, its far smoother and more consistent than this unit. With the G27 the wheel turns smoothly, and the force feedback transitions smoothly between strong and light.

Also of note, I tried different in game settings, settings for the wheel itself, and updated the firmware. None of which made any difference whatsoever. I could not be more disappointed in this product, and were I allowed to return it, I would do so immediately.

I strongly advise anyone looking for a racing wheel to wait and see how the new logitech wheels turn out instead of wasting money on this one. I should have done so myself, but I thought belt driven would be a better option.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible Quality

Pros: Powerful FFB
Quite accurate feedback in different sims
Modular
One of the few wheels that have XBOne support

Cons: Wheel is plastic, very toy like
Build Quality is non-existent

Other Thoughts: I have Fanatec gear on order and wanted a decent wheel in the mean time, and also something that I could fall back to if for any reason the Fanatec stuff started giving me trouble.
Less than a month of use, no longer powers on. What kind of quality control and build quality is this? This is garbage and unacceptable

5 out of 5 eggsNew to sim racing...mind is blown

Pros: Force feedback and vibration feel great
It just works everytime I plug it in

Cons: Brake pedal has no resistive load so it's kind of hard to gauge for pressure. I came up with a simple mod using a couple of rubber furniture bumpers (look on youtube for $10 Thrustmaster brake mod where Darin Gangi did a fantastic instructional and video review of it). After that it's pretty much perfect in my opinion....unless you are going to get into the really high end stuff.

Other Thoughts: People seem to forget that the wheel isn't usable without something to mount to and something to sit in or on. So you aren't going to end up just spending $300 and having fun....you're looking at close to $500-600 to get up and running after you are fully invested.

Wheelstands are ridiculously overpriced (it's just some punched metal and tubing most of the time). It's embarrassing actually and I couldn't bring myself to paying for one; especially after watching review after review and being underwhelmed and unimpressed.

I made my own wheelstand using a "132 lb. Capacity Roller Stand" from Harbor Freight. It came up to about $23 for it and some small parts after everything was said and done. It's rock solid and works great. The part that holds the roller (which pops right out) is exactly the right width for the wheel base and you just need to fabricate a base to bolt the wheel too. I just used some 1/8" aluminum I had laying around; you could probably just use MDF or something. You also need to make a mount for the pedals which could be made from anything really.

Heck I even added a couple of aluminum cup holders I found online for like $5 delivered from China.

If I didn't have some handyman skills there is no way that I would have dumped the money into a full rig for this even though it's really hard to imagine going back to playing racing sims with a controller.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible quality and customer support

Pros: It was fun playing Forza for the hour that it worked.

Cons: Broke within an hour of using it. Contacted customer support and they told me to buy a new one.

Other Thoughts: Go for the Mad Catz product, it has to be better than this.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted 1 night, no customer support

Pros: It was really fun for the hour that it worked.

Cons: Terrible build quality that broke after about 1 hour of use.

Customer support is also very bad, they told me to buy a new pedal set after me telling them I didn't even get to use it for one night.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this if you think build quality or customer support are important.

3 out of 5 eggsThrustmaster TX

Pros: The force feedback felt very immersive and proper in Forza 5, as well as on several PC games such as Formula 1 2013 and Assetto Corsa.

I dare say this wheel base is the best force feedback to date and Forza 5 has the best FFB programmed into a racing game, making it the perfect match for each other.

The mounting system is quite flexible, easily clamped onto my computer table securely. It also features threaded inserts on the wheel base and pedals for mounting to a cockpit or wheel stand.

Vehicle handling in any racing game is dramatically better than using a controller, since you have 900° of rotation to work with rather than 1/2" of movement for a full wheel rotation with a controller.

Adjustable DOF comes in very useful since I can drop it down to proper spec for F1 racing or get it set to match steering in DiRT 3.

Cons: The wheel that comes with the set (Ferrari 458 wheel) is a grand touring wheel, which is meant for comfortable cruising down the highway. That means in racing scenario, it's not practical for high speed maneuvering and can cause you to lose a proper grip while turning. A round wheel is much better than the way this wheel is shaped.

When I initially took the wheel out of the box, I felt sick to my stomach because the wheel was all plastic and felt like a child's toy. Not something for a grown man to own and have any dignity.

There is a "gear" feeling when turning the wheel, which it shouldn't have since it's belt driven and electric motor.

This wheel has been out for 5 months, and there still isn't any sign of the pedals and shiftier add-ons being available for purchase.

I have a slightly negative feeling on the pedals as well. They have good resistance and are accurate, but they seem a bit cheap. Thrustmaster also limited themselves from having a clutch pedal since a Ferrari 458 doesn't have one so to keep with the theme, it's not there. Also doesn't help that the pedals that do have a clutch are still unavailable for purchase 5 months after this wheel has been released.

Other Thoughts: I returned mine until Thrustmaster can come up with a better combination of wheel rim and pedals to go with this great wheel base, or perhaps sell the wheel base separately. You can get better pedals and better rim for racing as "add ons", but it's wasted money owning the 458 wheel and pedals since they would sit in the box never used.

I do miss having this wheel set for Forza 5, however the 458 set isn't good for racing. Thrustmaster should have gone with a generic styled wheel that was round, and pedals which had a clutch pedal. Having to spend hundreds more dollars to remedy those two things is too much to ask for.

I'm leaving this product with a 3 egg "neutral" review since the wheel base is great, but the execution of making it themed off a touring car hurts driving performance in racing.

1 out of 5 eggsTotal Garbage!!!!

Pros: Absolutely NONE - its worthless if you can't use it !!!

Cons: 3 purchased and all 3 were dead in 3 weeks average. 1st one dead out of the box, one died after 4 weeks and now this on is dead after 5 weeks. Newegg won't refund or replace so I'm ripped off of $375 - don't let this become your story also!!!

Other Thoughts: Why would Microsoft set it up so only one company makes a compatible steering wheel and then select the one with the worst quality. Makes the game unusable for me and thus the console not worth the nearly $500 I spent for it. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!

1 out of 5 eggsCheap

Pros: When it works the ffb is very good.

Cons: It keeps breaking.

Other Thoughts: I have gone though 5 bases and I haven't even really used any of them for that long. The longest I had one last was 6 uses. The problems are
wheel will not power on, wheel base shaft loose, makes grinding noise while turning the wheel, loses calibration wheel will be off center 30 degrees or more after a lap. This is so overpriced for what you get the rim is pure plastic and the pedals there''s no shifter or clutch pedal for $400. The thrustmaster t500rs with shifter is only $500 and it's a million times better than this plastic piece of garbage. But right now it's the only wheel for the xbox one. It's been out for 3 months now and they still haven't worked out the wheels problems. Hope that fanatec make a wheel for the xbox one soon. Do Not Buy!
