3 out of 5 eggsLoud fan - not what I expected

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Better than stock cooler -- but that's why people buy after market coolers, so not really a pro but rather expected.

Cons: I made the switch to liquid cooler (after using Vigor Monsoon III LT Dual on my 5 yr old i7 build, an exellent cooler BTW), expecting it to be quieter than air coolers for the same temp ranges.

This one apparently doesn't cool any better than any air cooler (i7 4790K hovers between 65C and 70C on full load, which any good air cooler could achieve), but the fan that came with it was louder than anything else in the box (box has 3 other 120mm fans that came with the case). I had to replace the fan with another 120 mm fan I had lying around to get the sound levels to acceptable level. This is not acceptable from a cooler that is supposed to make it quieter or keep the CPU cooler.

Other Thoughts: Be prepared to add the cost of a good 70-80 CFM quiet fan into the cost equation if you are looking to get this cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsKeeps 8350 at spectacular temps

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: This thing was easy to install and keeps my 8350 at nice temps even with prime 95 running I didn't see temps over 49C in a 73-75F room. The configuration I am using pushes all heat from the radiator out of the back of the case.

The pump is practically silent and with the Thermaltake A2329 fan on it for blowing only through the radiator, no pull. The loudest part of my rig is now the video card.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Heard of issues with temps on VRM/Mosfet due to the power and temps the 8350 puts off. So far no problems running the below configuration.

MSI 970 Gaming
8GB of Mushkin Ridgeback 2133 (MemoryModel 997167R)
8350 non-overclocked
Cooler Master Seidon 120M (sealed liquid cooler)
Geforce 465 GTX
EVGA 750W Gold Plus Supernova
Areca 1224-8i (Raid card)
Mushkin 120GB Chronos for boot
Samsung Evo 120GB for game drive

Ran Prime 95 for 1.5 hours on torture test. With the 120MM fan on full blast the proc got to 49C for each core and the Mobo got to 43C. I generally run the fan at 1/2 spped and the liquid cooler is practically silent.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Overclock

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Great CPU cooler. This is the first liquid cooling system that I've bought and I got it to replace a CPU cooler that was too big for my mid ATX case (Rosewill Challenger). Was really easy to install (all the extra components for intel slots were confusing at first), especially when I watched the Cooler Master video of the AMD installation.

Overclocked my FX-8350 from it's 4ghz stock and ~12.825V to ~5ghz at 14.25V. Before overclocking I was getting really poor WoW specs for some odd reason with a powerful machine, but after overclocking, I was getting ~80FPS on WoW on Ultra high settings. Around 140FPS in unpopulated areas and never under 60fps. After about a solid week of recording temperatures and not holding back on specs and CPU usage, the highest temperature I've seen is 65.4C. Keeps it at about 20C - 25C after idling for awhile. Normally runs around 45C - 52C while gaming.

Cons: Backplate was too tight. I had to loosely attach the cooler to the bracket, and loosely attach the brackets to the back plate. The first time I installed it, because it required so much forcing, my CPU pins got bent. Took me like a day to get my computer to boot again after that, but after very carefully straightening pins with a credit card I got it working again. I recommend having someone help you hold things if you're installing on AMD. Might be a similar situation with Intel.

Other Thoughts: AMD Installation is simple. Screw the brackets onto the cooler, then screw the brackets onto the back plate and you're done!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Very easy to install after seeing it done on Youtube.
My rig would idle at 110 degrees F on a summer day and now it idles at just around 90 in the same conditions.

Cons: Seemed to make a lot of noise when I first got it from the air pushing through the fins but after several months of working around it I don't even notice it anymore.
The "instructions" that come with it are garbage to say the least but there are Youtube videos that will walk you through the entire process whether you are working with AMD or Intel.

Other Thoughts: This was the first time I worked with a liquid cooler and I can say that I am not disappointed. I have been recommending it to everyone that I know who builds their own rigs or have them sitting where there is not a lot of air circulation.

4 out of 5 eggsGets the job done.

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: -Reasonable priced.
-Pretty good quality closed loop.
-Able to mount on my 4670K as well as my R9 290s.
-Keeps my 4670K @ 4.3GHz w/ (Corsair SP silents fans) under 78C (push-pull).
-Keeps my R9 290s under 65C.
-Made by Cooler Master.

Cons: Not one.

Other Thoughts: Here's my current setup:
i5-4670K @ 4.3GHz w/ Seidon 120M - Temps under 78C.
ASRock Z97 Extreme4.
Crossfire Giagabyte R9 290s w/ Seidon 120M - Temps under 65C.
2X8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport XT @ 1600mhz.
240GB SSD PNY XLR8.
EVGA SuperNova 1300 G2.
Corsair 300R.

-Overall this is great little closed loop for a very reasonable price, never gave me any problems and dropped my temps dramatically. Get it wether you're gonna run it on your CPU or GPU. It will keep either one cool.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat cooling system b

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Temp stays very low, Quiet, materials are high quality, fan/radiator fit perfectly on my case, overall great look

Cons: It was difficult to install the heatsink to my motherboard with the brackets. I have an amd fx 8350 processor and gigabyte ga 900fxa motherboard and used the supplied brackets to mount the heatsink to my processor but the 2 U-shaped pieces would not line up with the holes for the screws. I tried every single possible way but ended up having to drill new holes to it would line up.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Quiet, Very Cool

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: Quiet
Cools very well
Great price (after discount and rebate)

Cons: Terrible instructions included

Other Thoughts: I got this for my AMD FX-8320 because the stock fan/heatsink was very loud and when running graphic intensive parts of games, the temp would rise above 70C and my alarm would go off. Now, I barely hear the fan (running at only around 1500 rpm), even when playing games, and the temp is staying in the low 40s maximum.

The installation pamphlet is terrible. It just has a few cryptic pictures and minimal text describing the installation. I had to use a video on YouTube to make sure it was installed right.

I did run into a problem where the fan opening on the back of my case was made for a 90mm fan. I was able to install it on the front, but the tubing was just barely long enough and the fan power cable was a bit too short, so I had to get a 4 pin extension cable. So check your case and make sure you have room for a 120mm fan.

5 out of 5 eggsMy First Liquid Experience

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: So, my first foray into the realm of liquid cooling went well. The Seidon 120M is everything the marketing led me to believe, so far. The kit itself is of high quality components and one of the reasons I went with it was that this design is unique to Cooler Master, not a copy of someone else's design, and I like that.

It goes together easily, mine came packaged with a small tube of thermal compound (which I immediately disposed of), I however chose to go with Artic MX-4 and found that a pleasure to work with.

I was disappointed in the tubing length, but I understand they are building for economy and function, and not my wish to put it at the bottom of my large mid tower case. If I want that in the future, I know to build my own. But it fits nicely on the inside of the backside of the case. I pull the air thru with the fan mounted on the inner side of the radiator, and that makes for a comfortable tubing layout.

I did NOT install the factory cooling fan on my processor so I can't compare it to stock but I can report the CPU was kept nice and cool, in the range of 29-33c on idle. I overclocked using MSI's Z97M Gaming's OC Genie and am now running my 4690k at 4GHz instead of 3.5GHz and my 8GB of RAM at their full speed of 1866. When running Tera-Rising temps soared to a horrid 49c overclocked. Yes, 49c overclocked. Ambient temps around 75F and I only tested for 30 minutes but what's a poor old guy to do ? The fan btw, was never obtrusive and didn't make any odd sounds or try to fly off my case.

Cons: It wasn't free. There wasn't a $60 instant rebate. We can't hold hands on a rainy afternoon listening to the Beatles. Did I mention it worked?

Other Thoughts: If you want to get away from vacuuming your CPU cooler out every few months, if you want to give liquid cooling a try, if you want to avoid the potential mess/risk of a home built cooler, if you're tired of mounting 3 lbs of heat sink/radiator/fans sideways on your delicate motherboard, then give this a try. I rate it top shelf.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat until it failed

This review is from: Cooler Master Seidon 120M – All-In-One CPU Liquid Water Cooling System with 120mm Radiator and Fan

Pros: When idle or doing normal "light use", the pump and fan combo were silent. At full speed (all cores doing a parallel compile) it would occasionally be loud enough to be heard. Perfect.

Cons: It's been less than 90 days since building this system. This morning the pump started making a noise that sounds like a failing bearing. It's getting louder by the hour. I don't think it will last the day.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Breen H,

We apologize for the trouble that you are experiencing with the Seidon 120M. The Seidon 120m does have a 2 year warranty so we can replace the cooler for you.
