4 out of 5 eggsNice Case

This review is from: Cooler Master N400 - Mid Tower Computer Case with 240mm Radiator Support and Mesh Front Panel

Pros: Power supply at the bottom.
USB 3.0 and 2 connecters on the front.
A lot of room for large video cards and whatever else you want to put in it.
Lots of fan and water cooling options supported.

Cons: I would have liked to have had a few more exit holes in the MB mounting plate so I could have routed my power cables differently. Hard to explain but there are no exit holes in the plate. Many cases have two or three cable exit holes so you can pull cables from the back in the middle and top of the case.
Needed a couple more plastic HD mounting hardware It supports 4 HD's but only received two plastic locks. I just used some spare screws so it wasn't any real issue.
I have to open the case to remove and clean the filters.

Other Thoughts: I got this case on sale for less than $40 US. I wasn't expecting much and even planned on throwing it away if I had trouble with it. What a surprise I had when I started working with it. Very nice and easy to install my components.
I installed a water cooler for my CPU. It has two fans pulling cool outside air through the radiator. I had two different options so the case supported the feature well. It took me longer to decide which place to mount the radiator and which way the air should go than it did to do the actual mounting.

3 out of 5 eggsShould have gotten the N600

This review is from: Cooler Master N400 - Mid Tower Computer Case with 240mm Radiator Support and Mesh Front Panel

Pros: 1. Airflow seems fine, lots of places for mounting fans. I was able to mount a 120mm radiator to one of the top fan mounts in a pull config and also mount another 120 fan at the top next to it. If it was mounted at the rear, the radiator would block one of the top 120 mounts. A 240 at the top wouldn't clear the RAM modules, but your motherboard design may vary.

2. Build quality is great. Love how the front panel comes off clean without pulling wires out with it. All black parts and cables make it look very nice. Comes with a nice selection of hardware and JUST enough standoffs for an ATX motherboard (yes, you have to install standoffs in this case).

Cons: 1. I really want to echo what ROBERT W. already noted. The motherboard tray sits in a depression in the back panel of the case. This means an ATX motherboard with side-facing SATA ports will be extremely hard or impossible to access. If I had a right angled SATA connector that faced the right way, it wouldn't be such a big deal. However, none of the SATA cables I have want to work well with the case and motherboard.

2. Poor cable management. There is almost no room behind the motherboard tray, and there is only one opening next to the PSU. If you utilize this opening for your power cables, you HAVE to run them through the side 240 "radiator mount". So, if you actually do put a 240 rad here, you cannot route any thicker cables through it. I installed two 120 fans here for additional air intake and I could squeeze my 8 pin cable through the small space between the fan mount, but it's far from ideal. This case was not designed for cable management. There's really no way to see this based on the photos provided here. (Hey Newegg, I know it's a newer case, but a video review would be great so we can all get a look at the backside!)

Other Thoughts: In hindsight, I should have researched my case choice a little better. The N600 is another mid tower with seemingly more room for cables and everything else, and still at a decent price. I may end up returning this case and trying out the "larger version" of this case. If you have a decent amount of hardware to install (2+ drives, anything in the expansion bays, longer graphics card, etc.), move up. I'll admit it's a nice looking case, but the design limitations I mentioned above make me regret this purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Cheap Case!

This review is from: Cooler Master N400 - Mid Tower Computer Case with 240mm Radiator Support and Mesh Front Panel

Pros: Front face is glossy black plastic w/ mesh grille (The whole front of the case is vented so my EVO212 pulls lots of fresh air from the front. Case also comes with one front hard drive fan as well!)

Cons: none

3 out of 5 eggsExcellent case with one big drawback

This review is from: Cooler Master N400 - Mid Tower Computer Case with 240mm Radiator Support and Mesh Front Panel

Pros: Spacious interior allows easy insertion of 8 drives. Front panel snaps off easily, leaving front-ports connected to case frame. (This front-port mounting is secured with two easy-to-remove screws so that assembly can be replaced, upgraded or moved aside during assemblies. Very nice.)

The drives, once installed, also have a good amount of spacing between them for excellent airflow.

There is a small plastic cage for two SSDs that can fit onto the back side of the Drive Cage, plus a 3rd SSD mounting on the base of the case.

When I consider an 8-HDD case, this would be one of the best (ANTEC 302s, some FRACTALS and the CoolerMaster 430 are other good examples; almost as easy for routine maintenance as large rackmount cases).

For multiple drives and spaciousness, this case could earn 5 stars.

I could claim this is a 5-star example

Cons: But here's the big error. The motherboard is recessed down into the motherboard tray. This means that the lower layer of SATA connectors on 'pedestal' type motherboards can't be easily accessed, cables inserted OR moved OR replaced. It also means that if the assembly wishes to press down to insert power-connectors, fingers cannot be fit under the motherboard's edge to equalize pressure.

This is a horrible design of the motherboard tray. If it was lifted upward OR left completely flat, all of these abilities would be available - as they usually are. But this 'sunken motherboard tray notion is TERRIBLE.

Any time the SysAdmins have to do work on one of these cases, they will have trouble with the sunken motherboard.

This earns a very low 1-star rating.

Other Thoughts: For the good points, this case gets my 5-star rating. For it's very VERY bad point, it earns the lowest possible.

So '3-star' is the average. If I'm looking for a case for a lot of HDDs, this case gets considerations. But connecting those drives to the motherboard all-but-requires upright, single SATA connectors - not the dual-layer SATA pedestals.

5 out of 5 eggsBest case for the money, period

This review is from: Cooler Master N400 - Mid Tower Computer Case with 240mm Radiator Support and Mesh Front Panel

Pros: This case weighs almost nothing, but it's very strong and rigid. I don't know whether it's made from a cold-rolled, coated steel, or something else, but I've never seen a non-aluminum case that has this weight-to-strength ratio.

The case is great-looking; it has a matte black finish with attractive honeycomb-style vents that are forged into the actual case (they are not tacked-on plastic vents).

The front bezel is plastic, but it still looks sharp and is easy to remove.

Water-cooling capabilities; a radiator can be mounted on this case.

Removable screen filters in three separate locations, making it easy to remove accumulated dust from the case.

The case features white LED lights (for power and hard disk activity), which is pretty unique; I've never seen white LEDs in a case before.

The assembly is completely tool-less, which is great. The only minor exception is that a screw-driver is required to mount the motherboard to the case.

Speaking of screwdrivers, this is another simple feature that really sets CoolerMaster apart: the case hardware bag includes a Phillips-to-hex adapter, so an adjustable wrench or socket set is unnecessary when installing the brass offsets on which the motherboard is mounted. Good thing, too, because all I had was a screwdriver at the time of assembly! CoolerMaster saved me a trip home from the office.

Finally, CoolerMaster had the good sense to include *three* solid-state drive (SSD) bays in this case. So, if you are considering a SSD and were planning to buy a 3.5" to 2.5" enclosure/adapter for your SSD, it's not necessary with this case (unless you plan to buy more than three SSDs).

Very happy with this purchase; I looked long and hard for a case under $100 that meets all my needs and this is the sole contender.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I went into panic mode when I couldn't find any hardware with the case. Only after removing the front bezel did I realize that the hardware was indeed present! The bag was tucked up in the front of the case and was easy to miss upon initial inspection.

So, if you can't find the hardware that should be included with the case, dig-around *inside the case* (not in the box) and look for two small bags of hardware. The screws are all black, which is a nice touch, because they match the black finish on the case.

5 out of 5 eggsGood case

This review is from: Cooler Master N400 - Mid Tower Computer Case with 240mm Radiator Support and Mesh Front Panel

Pros: Plenty of ventilation. The two fans that came in the case are quiet. Connectors are labeled properly, with no quality issues. The case front isn't overdone, which is good for business offices. The interior is finished and includes tool-free drive bays, along with a snap-in holder for an SSD.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: One of the nicest cases I've worked with.

5 out of 5 eggsBeware of $10 rebate card

This review is from: Cooler Master N400 - Mid Tower Computer Case with 240mm Radiator Support and Mesh Front Panel

Pros: Love the case - I would not purchase the case if you're taking the $10 rebate into consideration... Aside from the card I think the case is of great value and quality regardless of the rebate.

Cons: Beware of $10 rebate card - I tried to use this card at three different locations and it was rejected... It shows that there is a balance of $10.00 dollars but it refuses to process. Failed to work at Wal-Mart, Grocery Store, AAFES BX (Military Base Exchange)

Other Thoughts: None

3 out of 5 eggsCan do better for the price

This review is from: Cooler Master N400 - Mid Tower Computer Case with 240mm Radiator Support and Mesh Front Panel

Pros: Reasonable size for a large mid-tower, stylish and unobtrusive. Mix of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports on the front panel is handy.

Cons: Poor at accommodating 2.5 inch drives and large GPUs. The caddy for 2.5 inch drives is poorly located and does not hold drives of ordinary size securely. It does not provide for screw mounting. Large GPUs will interfere with 3.5 inch drive slots and with cabling. Use of breakaway tabs for expansion slots and external cooler fittings is inexcusable even at this price.

Other Thoughts: Works well if you don't plan to install a large GPU and you get a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch adapter for 2.5 inch drives. But you can do better in the same price range. Corsair 200R has none of these limitations.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice case with one substantial drawback

This review is from: Cooler Master N400 - Mid Tower Computer Case with 240mm Radiator Support and Mesh Front Panel

Pros: Excellent airflow potential - I've filled all fan slots in some 12 builds with this case now, and the temps are excellent.

Lots of space and openings for cable management behind/under the motherboard.

Front faceplate is very stylish, and modestly so - no gaudiness. I especially like the simple white-colored power and hd activity LEDs. Excellent for office builds, where excessively bright red or blue LEDs can be distracting or annoying.

Cons: One major con that has not stopped me from buying more --> There are two top fan openings for 120/140 mm fans. A nice positive. However, the top standoff positions result in all motherboards mounting with the top edge virtually flush with the top of the case. They're positioned too high inside the case.

Even a Micro-ATX motherboard, when installed, renders at least one of the two fan openings basically useless, apart from extreme measures... I've installed a bunch of ASUS A88XM-A micro-ATX boards, and the more forward-positioned fan space is blocked by a single RAM stick - moving to another slot doesn't matter - they're all in the way. Using the front fan space means that the secondary 4-pin CPU power cord has to be kinked severely by the pressure of the fan contact. So... I've actually chopped off a fair amount of plastic from the frames of the top 120mm fans I've used in order to enable me to install the things...

Most boards have their RAM slots situated so that, depending on how much RAM you're using, at least one of the fan slots is going to be blocked by the RAM stick/sticks.

Not especially well thought out...

Other Thoughts: I recommend it highly if you're not likely to use either of the top two 120/140 mm fan openings. Chances are very good that you'll end up with one or both of the spaces being unusable, with most motherboards. Unless you want to shave off a substantial amount of plastic off of the fan/fans you're going to use...
