5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Size and price combo.
Part of 3 drive NAS in QNAP.
Been running since Christmas day.
Installed with no issues.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Did not have problems noted in reviews. I did not do any special formatting. I simply put each drive in a tray and inserting them into the QNAP 451. Ran QNAP utilities and all good. Running RAID5 with three drives. Will add forth with price hits $140.

2 out of 5 eggsDelivery

Pros: None

Cons: See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: Newegg delivery is going downhill

I remember Newegg as having great delivery service but it has gone downhill. They now use a company called Ontrac that does not deliver on weekends. This is also a Newegg policy according to a rep I was talking with on Saturday.
The product ships from City of Industry to San Diego. A few hour drive. Ordered Friday and called ontrac Saturday to go pick up my product. Oh wait… Newegg doesn’t allow this. I now have to wait until Monday to get my product that is sitting in a warehouse 20 minutes away. A newegg rep tells me they can change the delivery address back to my workplace because that is what I do on Mondays… I find out today that they can’t actually change the delivery address and the rep just lied about it. So I have $300 worth of product sitting on my doorstep.

Poor delivery service. Another major site had my drives to me the next day.

5 out of 5 eggsBest 4TB HDD for NAS or Desktop

Pros: - Extremely low vibration
- Almost completely inaudible
- Runs very cool
- At 5900 RPM, its as fast, if not faster than most 7200 RPM drives
- Excellent option for simple dekstop storage even though its a NAS rated drive
- No excessive headparking issues with NASWare 3.0 firmware; some 2.0 eqipped drives might need to use WDIDLE to adjust delay (Google will walk anyone through this easily, tech knowledge level is irrelevant to perform this), though not all have.

Cons: None observed

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD for raid array's

Pros: i used alot of drives from different sources (3 from here, 5 from directdial.com and 4 from microbyte) and most of them have never been turned off for over a year and are still in brand new state in a smart check so im very happy with my purchase

Cons: they work wonderfully how ever they are still max 5400 rpm so its not the best performance you can get but still good performance.

Other Thoughts: you can still get great performance out of these with a Raid 10 array and a carefully picked stripsize

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good.

Pros: They have been on 24/7 without issue for 1 month now. Lots of storage.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have these in RAID 1 for my FREENAS server, they are dedicated to PLEX. They have been on 24/7 for over a month now and seem to work as advertised.

I have the older 2TB reds in RAID 1 as well that have been going strong for almost 2 years 24/7. RED drives rock!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive, Wish Warranty was better

Pros: -As most WD products I've onwed, I can honestly say this is the only brand driver that I trust.

Cons: -Either I'm spoiled by the WD Black 5 year warranty, or I feel it showed a bit of greed when WD offered the Red Pro with 5 year warranty.
I mean, after all, if WD Red is the NAS flagship equivalent of a WD Black in a desktop environment, then the same warranty should have conferred. Making us pay extra for 'WD Red Pro' when the only difference between Red and Red Pro is the warranty length, is a deplorable money grab, yet all too expected in today's corporations. Would it really kill you rise above the corporate status quo Western Digital?

After all, your products are great... what's there to lose that could possibly be worth more than the tremendous boost in Brand Perception and serious respect from your customers?

3 out of 5 eggs1 DOA, 4 just OK

Pros: Low heat. Low noise. 2 year warranty gives peace of mind against all the reports of failures in these reviews. Reasonable speeds for the price.

Cons: Just my luck, like so many others before me, I got a dud !!!

Well, 4 out of 5 working seems to be acceptable for today's quality assurance people when they release stuff from production, so I guess I should just shut the hell up and suck it up.

RMA underway.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap NAS Drives

Pros: Purchased 6 of these during the Black Friday sale at a price that couldn't be passed up.

Ran SMART Conveyance, Short, and Long tests to ensure no drives reported any errors. All came back fine, which shocked me, due to the amount of DOA / Bad Sector reviews. Perhaps I just received a lucky batch.

Running all 6 in a RAIDZ2 (RAID6) FreeNAS system. Performance has been great so far. System is capped by Gb LAN speed (~100 MB/s read/write).

Cons: SMART results show the Load Cycle Count (Head Parking) increasing too quickly for my liking. WDIDLE3 utility can be used to disable Head Parking, potentially increasing drive life in a 24/7 server.

Other Thoughts: All 6 of my drives were manufactured in July of 2014 and unfortunately came with NASware 2.0, not 3.0. However, Newegg does list the drives as NASware 2.0, so I can't fault them for that. If you want/need NASware 3.0, buy them directly from WD.

Overall, no complaints. No dead/bad drives and they're performing as expected.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: The two units I purchased worked and continue to work fine for the past 4 months. I have them installed in a ReadyNAS 516 along with two additional 4TB Red drives I purchased elsewhere. I am pleased with the performance and so far no reliability problems. NAS runs 10 hours/day, shuts down overnight.

Cons: none so far
