1 out of 5 eggsWhere is the wireless?

Pros: It is very stable and a great price.

Cons: no wireless!

Other Thoughts: These people leaving good reviews are mentioning that it has to be connected to the router and to the printer. The title says w/ wireless! I feel like I am taking crazy pills.

5 out of 5 eggsUsed it to create a wireless printer

Pros: I have an old laser brother printer which works great, but can only connect by USB. I wanted to have my printer on the opposite side of my office, and I didn't want long USB cords wrapping around the room. I snagged a used linksys wireless router for super cheap on fleabay and flashed it to use dd-wrt, and then configured it as a bridged client. Plugging my printer in to the router through the LPR print server module effectively gave me a wireless printer with the extreme robustness of the dd-wrt wireless connection!

I was able to get this to work through 2 bridged client connections. My PC has a router as a bridged client to the main gateway router, and my printer now also has its own router configured as a bridged client to the main gateway router. Using the included network printer wizard, I didn't have to try and figure out how to add this printer as a network printer myself; it took care of that for me. The included wizard is just a small program that configures a network printer in windows, and is quickly and cleanly installed/uninstalled. For those who know how to setup a network printer themselves, the wizard is not necessary.

The instruction manual also includes instructions for how to add a network printer under a macintosh operating system.

This device is operating system independent, as far as I can tell; as long as LPR signals are being sent to the device, the module will decode it and translate that message into the USB port. It should work for any USB printer.

It doesn't seem to take any longer to start printing compared to hooking it up to my computer directly.

Cons: The network wizard didn't find the new printer right away after connecting it, I had to wait ~5 minutes for it to suddenly show up in the wizard. During those 5 minutes, I scrambled around trying to figure out what was going wrong, when apparently I just needed to wait for a bit. Don't know why.

For those that like an all-in-one package, you might be better off buying a wireless printer; they seem to be relatively cheap recently. The cost of this device plus a CHEAP wireless router is already more than half of the cost of a new wireless laser printer. You also now have to somehow neatly stash the router, USB converter, and power cords (and power strip?) neatly away (I stuffed all of mine underneath a bookcase, with the printer sitting above it on the bottom shelf). However, the wireless connection of a new wireless printer may not be as robust as the dd-wrt setup that you can make here.

Other Thoughts: I do not regret buying this at all, and I would recommend others to buy it as well.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as intended

Pros: Works for an older non wireless printer. Great for other computers to print from one printer. Much cheaper option than buying a wireless printer.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I had a little difficulty understanding how to set it up. You can't attach it to a switch for it to work. I found out that it has to be directly attached to the router and then you can access the server setup. The password that it needs is the password to the router so that it can access the wireless function in the router. I haven't had any problems with this yet after figuring out the setup.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product for standard non wireless printer

Pros: Very easy to set up. Very small footprint. Works flawlessly. Great price, Cheaper than purchasing a wireless printer.

Cons: It works through your router, which isn't a big deal for me. Needs to attach to the printer and the router, so you have to have them both located together, doesn't work on it's own, not a con for me.

Other Thoughts: It is a very good product and I am glad I purchased this. I have a Samsung Laser printer that I had always wished it had wireless capability. This is as close as I can get and it is totally awesome!
