3 out of 5 eggsWorked great for a year now drops

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: This was a great router, but now it keeps dropping the connection and have to reboot it constantly. I take it has two year warranty so I am hoping they honor it.

Cons: Worked well for a year and now drops connections

3 out of 5 eggsKeeps dropping connections

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: Sleek design, firmware easy to update, setup is a breeze, menus and GUIs are great, wifi range is awesome, getting my 30MBps over wifi.

Cons: Working well as long as you don't use too much bandwith. Gets very hot and overheat. Keeps dropping connection, have to unplug it, let it cool and try for about half a hour to have an internet connection again. Tried new firmwares, beta firmwares, still dropping.. Have replugged my old D-Link DI624 wich is 10+ years old that still does a more consistant job, except for wifi speed and wifi range. Will shop for a 250$ range router, maybe it'll work better for downloading more or less 20gb / day...

5 out of 5 eggsEnd of Life

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: I really like the user interface. Very easy setup. Very easy to make setup changes. No problems on wireless. Easy to update firmware.

Cons: Nothing obvious. Did run very hot, which probably contributed to its failure.

Other Thoughts: This router died after three years and five months of use. The wireless still worked, but the wired networking suddenly failed. Time constraints forced me to buy another brand at a local retailer. The RTN56U was about 20% faster on wireless than the new one, which advertised the same specs.

2 out of 5 eggsInconsistent performer

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: The ethernet part works fine.

Cons: Got it to keep up with a faster internet connection.

IT AIN'T.

Very inconsistent performance. The throughput will be fine for a while and then-- well, it isn't. It's like an old person about to doze off who suddenly wakes up again. The reason I know the ethernet works well is I keep hooking it up to make sure it's the radio and not my internet connection.

Other Thoughts: Will try a newer adapter but it's close to RMA time.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Carmelo,

Thank your for your time in posting a review about our products. On behalf of ASUS, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Let me assist you.

Please try these steps below to try to fix the issue:

* Check the physical connection
* Try with different LAN ports
* Try with different Ethernet cables
* Hard reset for 10 seconds and power cycle the router
* Update the firmware
* Try with different computer to check if the problem will still occur.

5 out of 5 eggsWireFULL

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: For starters, the router network map interface is very clean and easy to use, I could see a basic user being able to even go in and modify anything needed.
Great connectivity, no drops when I use the Wi-Fi on my laptop and phone. I also am able to maintain my 65 Mbps connection from 15 yards away. I have up to 7 devices connected to this router at any given time, and the RT-N56U still performs max bandwidth.
Very slim design which helps keep space open, very modern and stylish look as well.
The price of this is very reasonable as well, ASUS out did themselves on this one.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS RT-N56U

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: Dependable, Have owned and used this router 4 years and it hasn't had any problems . Great coverage, 2,400 sq ft home and even have coverage out in the barn.

Cons: Runs a little warm but hasn't caused any issues in 4 years of service

Other Thoughts: ASUS generally makes a pretty good product and hopefully you will never need to contact their support, because ASUS support is pretty much non-existent

2 out of 5 eggsPoor quality

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: Nice intuitive interface. Looks great! Had mostly great reviews from many sites. Newegg had it delivered to my door quickly.

Cons: Completely died after 2 weeks. No faster than my old reliable Linksys WRT54GL. So light that the cables decided how it was aligned. Tiny power cable and plug.

Other Thoughts: I shouldn't be responsibility to pay return shipping of $20 on an $80 router that failed. That is just plain poor business practices.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't recommend

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: When it works it is absolutely great. I had great download speeds and my online gaming had no lag. It also looks awesome and doesn't overheat like other routers I had

Cons: I haven't used this router in over two years. for almost six months I went through the misery of having to restart it at least once an hour. I had the worst lag while gaming and caused me to constantly become disconnected while playing online or watching Netflix.

I tried and tried to like this router and I simply couldn't. I tried flashing a bunch of different firmware upgrades and downgraded several times, but it never worked. I only gave it two eggs because it looks awesome and the range was great in my house.

Manufacturer Response:
