2 out of 5 eggsDon't recommend

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: When it works it is absolutely great. I had great download speeds and my online gaming had no lag. It also looks awesome and doesn't overheat like other routers I had

Cons: I haven't used this router in over two years. for almost six months I went through the misery of having to restart it at least once an hour. I had the worst lag while gaming and caused me to constantly become disconnected while playing online or watching Netflix.

I tried and tried to like this router and I simply couldn't. I tried flashing a bunch of different firmware upgrades and downgraded several times, but it never worked. I only gave it two eggs because it looks awesome and the range was great in my house.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: The router is extremely easy to set up. Software to install items like printers is available through the router's setup. It literally took 60 seconds to set up my printer. Gigabit LAN and WAN is very nice to have, and the signal strength is very good.

Cons: I think it's mainly an issue with my house, but the signal strength drops a bit in one area of my house. I used a wifi signal strength meter and noticed there was a drastic drop on the other side of a load bearing wall. This makes sense since the wall is extremely thick. So this isn't really much of a con on the routers part. Just an item to note

Other Thoughts: Easy setup, looks nice, works well. All around a great router.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: Excellent router, and looks awesome to boot!
Set up was a breeze, and it doesn't need to be restarted constantly for my PS3 to be able to connect like my old Linksys did.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router!

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: easy setup, fast speed, priority browsing, network printer, stylish

Cons: lots of settings

Other Thoughts: I bought this as my first router in college knowing that I want speed for gaming and internet research/streaming. I am not disappointed with this router. It was a super easy setup, but I never changed any of the options. There are, to me, endless settings that allow you to do a lot are lower end router wouldn't let you do. My friends come over all the time to use my internet because of the speed. I would buy this again and highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat router after the firmware update

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: I got this router back in 2013, and I HATED it and put it in a drawer. After my airport extreme died I broke this baby out and updated the firmware. It was like night and day! The old UI was pitiful and the rout was completely unstable. After the update it is amazing. Not sure what firmware it ships with now, but keep it up to date!

Cons: No AC, but it is from 2013...

1 out of 5 eggsASUS NEVER AGAIN

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: none that I can think they send rma fast but to the wrong address
so I have nothing yet.

Cons: The worst equipment I ever have and the service from asus I prefer not mention because is going to be a bad word.
Purchase 12-3-15 returned 2-6-15 destroy my all network

Other Thoughts: buy the insurance from neweeg in order no to deal with asus in case you like asus anyway

2 out of 5 eggsHas begun flipping out

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: Easy to set up; achieved 200 Gb with both connected computers; wireless seems OK

Cons: After two weeks, has flipped out and required reboot twice, two days apart. All five blue lights are on, but neither wired nor wireless devices can connect. When attempting to reach the router via browser, I get the message "Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh. Changes have been made to
the IP address or port number". So far, a power cycle has restored normal functioning after it flips out like this. The firmware upgrade utility says I have the latest firmware.

Other Thoughts: Will contact Asus support this week.

1 out of 5 eggsTotal trash. Look elsewhere.

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: Router is fairly slim. Almost not DOA.. Configuration webpage is certainly a step up from a Linksys WRT54GL's that it was replacing.

Cons: I hoped that the other negative reviews were not true, but this really is slow and unstable! Wireless range (2.4 Ghz) is about the same as WRT54GL, but any sustained transfer greater than a few seconds - even a speed test - will show complete dropouts. Wired connection is noticeably slower for even loading Google. Updated the firmware to whatever was available in late December 2014 but it still sucked.

Didn't test 5Ghz band but really, I didn't need to, I knew this was going back for a refund.

Other Thoughts: Bought it for gigabit routing speeds and 2.4 Ghz wireless N but it was defective.

Newegg was excellent in giving a refund. Picked up a Linksys EA2700 refurbished directly from Cisco and it's been working much better.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: Stable, fast, excellent range, Canon IP4700 print fast with utility to check color cartridge status exc. Second USB with ext HD works great. No bugs with firmware. A mature product.

Cons: I am spoiled. I can't upgrade. I hope asus don't bug the firmware

Other Thoughts: I got a couple dozen of router the past almost 20 years. This one is the best.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS RT-N56U Wireless Router Dual Band N600 Multimedia Ultra Slim Gigabit 802.11a/b/g/n support USB Storage, Print and Media Server

Pros: Easy set up and navigation. Initial range and use was excellent.

Cons: The problems began when I tried to limit internet access at certain times of the day. Access shut down on schedule, but would not turn on at the scheduled time. After a few weeks, the range and strength fell. The signal strength was cut in half in certain areas. The bandwidth it allowed was at dialup speeds.

Other Thoughts: It was so bad I put my 9 year old router back in service, the problem it was having that caused the replacement are minor by comparison.
