The device is a VOX (voice activated) device. Silence is not recorded. Has 2 slide switches on it: * one extends and retracts the USB connector, * one turns RECORD on / off. Couldn't be simpler. Turn it on and it starts a new file; turn it off to save the file. Only audio is recorded, silence is not. To start a new file turn recorder off, then back on again. Cons: No built-in speaker. No stand-alone way to play, delete or otherwise manage recordings... Although knowing this before you buy means it's not really a negative. It's expected.at this price point that you'll be connecting it to a PC to play, delete or otherwise manage recordings. Here is my only actual complaint: Short memos. It doesn't seem to like recording files under 15 seconds or so. If you want to record just a short memo it seems to take a few seconds from the time you set RECORD=ON before the actual recording starts. I'll usually turn on the device, give it a few seconds, speak my memo into it, repeat my memo once or twice more, give it another second ot two of silence, then turn it off to save the recording. Another note: I couldn't play back the (WAV) files on my Toshiba tablet. I assume the issue is w/ the tablet as the WAV files play on my PC w/o issue. Other Thoughts: I didn't try to record a meeting or a lecture. I get the feeling that you'll want to be pretty close to the device for best results. I gave it 4 stars for it's flakiness with shorter files. If it promised more or cost more I'd have given it 3 stars or less. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful. Did you? So you can charge it via USB and then just leave it in a spot and it will record any audio in the room. If there is no audio then it will shut off automatically. Cons: There is no way to manually turn on the recording so it is unpredictable to an extent. I do really like this product though. Other Thoughts: I wanted to get this to record lectures in my programming classes. I think that this will work and for what I paid for it I am happy. Did you find this review helpful?
