2 out of 5 eggsFailed

Pros: Lasted almost a full year in my macbook pro. Worked fine up till today.

Cons: Failed after almost a year. With no warning, it sounds fine but can't do anything with it.

Other Thoughts: Gave me no warnings at all. Just today I was using my laptop and got the spinning wheel of death. Tried to repair disk, nope. I was able to get some files off of it.
Tried to reformat it, nope. No go.

1 out of 5 eggsNot ready for prime time

Pros: ^ A really neat concept .
* Running "Disk Cleanup" including system files to get ready for 120GB OS drive limit recovered 40GB of Service Pack Backups, Error Dumps, Obsolete Restore Points, System Log Files, unused/unneeded programs, etc. from my OS partition.

Cons: Drive connected and recognized only one time. After reboot, not recognized by Windows 7 system. It seems that the drive sets a some security bit in the BIOS which cannot be reset in some systems. WD support had me try it on another system, still not recognized. Their recommendation was return it for refund which I did.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps the failure of the drive was a fluke, but the number of "Drive not recognized" errors reported here seem to make that unlikely. I plan to try it again in a couple of months. The space recovery benefits from running Disk Cleanup made the otherwise frustrating install effort worthwhile.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat drives, perhaps.

Pros: These drives are loaded with space, and are pretty quiet, atleast in my opinion, the laptop fans are louder than the drives. Plenty of space and good spool up and search/ write times.

Cons: Not sure if its my drive or some other issue but going from a single drive to raid 0 on my system (both these drives) i started getting huge dpc latency and lag spikes during games that would freeze and crash my computer. which only started after installing a new drive. I am unable to tell if its the drive causing the issues or some other factor, but it is on a broad spectrum. So i know its not game specific.

Other Thoughts: Im happy with the drive, 90 percent of the time no issues, but some days the latency and freezing/ bluescreens are all to real.

1 out of 5 eggsReplacement is also bad

Pros: Have used these drives for 5 years as replacements. This batch of drives is bad.

Cons: After receiving the original bad drive, I decided to stress test the replacement WD Black drive. To my surprise, the replacement drive started clicking after 30 minutes. After a reboot the drive could not be recognized by the computer.

Other Thoughts: The replacement WD Black drive is also bad. There are no pros that can be written. I have ordered dozens of these and never had one go bad in 5 years. This batch must be bad. I do hard drive repairs and data recovery and suspect the first drive has a bad voltage regulator and this replacement drive has a stuck arm. WD better get their act together or the word on poor quality WD drives will spread quickly.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Never had a WD black go bad. Ordered many in the past for replacement dead drives. This is the first black for me to be DOA.

Cons: Dead on arrival. Drive could not be recognized. Received drive on 12/18/14.
