1 out of 5 eggsNot Like The Older One

This review is from: NETGEAR RangeMax WNR1000 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11 b/g 2.4 GHz with 4-Port Ethernet Switch

Pros: None

Cons: Wf-Fi useless.
Does not preform like it's older version.

Other Thoughts: Had the WNR1000v3 was happy with it. Bought 2 of these WNR1000v4 .

With the exact settings where possible just could not get a printer 14 feet away to work by wireless reliably.

Was going to return the unopened one but shipping would be $17.00 so I probably won't return it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Rickey,

We apologize that you've been unhappy with the v4s and would like to help you get the best performance possible. Please remember that you can email us at netgearteam@netgear.com whenever there is an issue or something doesn't seem to be working properly. You will need to include a copy and paste of this review, your ISP, current firmware, serial number, and zip code.

We look forward to getting you just as happy with the v4s and as you were with the v3.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

1 out of 5 eggsWL Router Netgear/WNR1000-100NAS R

This review is from: NETGEAR RangeMax WNR1000 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11 b/g 2.4 GHz with 4-Port Ethernet Switch

Pros: None

Cons: I could not get it to work after a week of trying. I talked to Microsoft because I had just upgrade to Win10 and Netgear Tech support (in India). They just tried to sale me an expensive antivirus program.(No Thanks).

Manufacturer Response:

Hello James,

We are very sorry to hear about the way support handled your case-- please email us at netgearteam@netgear.com so we can investigate and also assist you. All you need to include is the case numbers that support gave you and any other information you can about your Win10 issue.

Our apologies for the trouble so far with the WNR1000-- we hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

3 out of 5 eggsworks well

This review is from: NETGEAR RangeMax WNR1000 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11 b/g 2.4 GHz with 4-Port Ethernet Switch

Pros: 1) $22.98
2) 4 port 100mbps
3) 150 mbps wirelessN
4) light weight
5) mounting holes (screws sold separately)
6) web interface (192.168.1.1 default)

it cheap, and it works

Cons: When I went through my visual inspection while opening the product, one of the ethernet ports looks as if Quality checks was ignored. the pins were all out of place. I assume I could fix it with a pair of tweezers but I only required 1 ethernet port for my project, so i used one of the other 3.

it has an external antenna. none of the pictures had one, but it does, i guess mine is a different revision than the one in the pictures. I wanted to avoid a non removable antenna because my previous router from a different company had one and it broke at the base.
this router is a bigger than competitors' solutions such as D-link because Netgear is using a "one case fits all" approach to reduce Industrial design costs. I would say it is even bigger than the pictures by about 10-25% if i take the Ethernet port sizes as reference.
It is a "max range" product but don't be fooled, it is a lower tier sku so don't expect great things from it. If the router is on one side of the house don't expect it to work on the other side 100%. After some testing, I mounted mine in the center of my house, and signal is good throughout. I would say 4 (interior) wall max or about 100-150ft with LoS.

Other Thoughts: it is <$23 so you get what you pay for. it is a good product.
I deducted eggs because an Ethernet port wasn't functioning as purchased and it had an external antenna that isn't removable.
whether the misrepresentation is newegg's fault for not updating pictures and/or netgear's fault for creating a new revision under the same model name or product name, doesn't matter to me.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate the feedback and want to let you know that we are here for your assistance whenever you need. Please feel free to email us whenever you need at netgearteam@netgear.com-- please include any basic info along with the serial number of your unit.

We are very sorry for the trouble and want nothing more than your complete satisfaction.

3 out of 5 eggsUse caution when unplugging cables

This review is from: NETGEAR RangeMax WNR1000 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11 b/g 2.4 GHz with 4-Port Ethernet Switch

Pros: I've bought maybe 6 of these over the last few years. For my purposes, we kept WiFi disabled for maximum security, so I can mainly say the wired capabilities work as expected.

Cons: I've had three of these fail when I was unplugging the Ethernet cables to do some reconfiguration. The RJ45 jacks are recessed a bit, so when trying to squeeze the plugs to disengage them, I guess I flex the jacks enough to break something in there. No lights, no power, another dead WNR1000.

Other Thoughts: Still a solid value for a budget router. Just take your time and use care if your Ethernet cables take a lot of squeeze force to compress the tang enough to unplug them. Use a small implement to compress the tang without flexing the RJ45 jack and circuit board.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Thomas,

Thanks for being a loyal NETGEAR customer and for choosing the WNR1000.

Please remember that whenever you need help that we are here for you. All you need to do is email us at newegg@netgear.com for assistance. Include the serial number of whichever unit and a copy and paste of your review.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for small home usage

This review is from: NETGEAR RangeMax WNR1000 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11 b/g 2.4 GHz with 4-Port Ethernet Switch

Pros: Using this router in the living room of my 3 story place. Main desktop is wired, but PS3, laptop, phone and tablet all run on the Wi-Fi in different parts of the house. Inside the house, Wi-Fi strength never an issue, mostly running YouTube or other video apps. Bought this for $30, I would highly recommend this to others. Setup is very easy and accessing options in the interface is simple.

Cons: A very lightweight router, can be tough set in a certain spot with multiple wires plugged into it.

5 out of 5 eggsThe netgear router

This review is from: NETGEAR RangeMax WNR1000 Wireless Router IEEE 802.11 b/g 2.4 GHz with 4-Port Ethernet Switch

Pros: This router is amazing! The price for this router is crazy cheap for what it does. Iv'e had this router working for about 3 days now, and it has not failed me yet. It has not broken or stopped working since I've set it up. It does not overheat and is well worth the price you pay for it.
The range on this router is also really good.

Cons: There are no cons because I could not find anything wrong with this router.

Other Thoughts: I am very happy with this router.
