Question 1

Hello, Will this work in a regular sata port if I were to provide for it the necessary power? I ask because I have bought one thinking it will be compatible with any motherboard...sure hope it is not only designed for supermicro motherboards.
I'm wanting to use it with a Intel D510MO for a very small cnc machine controller.

It will work with a regular sata controller. I am using it on an intel desktop motherboard. You may need to modify power connections since the connectors that came with it are for supermicro boards only.  I modified the end that goes to the motherboard not the end that goes to the unit. 
Also, you will lose the other sata connection, the unit is wide. 
Other than that, it's been working great for me.

Your website shows picture of modual, white box and power
connector (wire with plugs).
I would use this product on a Supermicro motherboard with
a DOM power connector on the board. Does the power connector
shown, come with this item, or is the power connector an
optional item?

Yes, the power connector comes with the SATA DOM. It's optional in the sense that you don't need it with the newer x10 series boards. But since but my FreeNAS box has a Supermicro x9 board, I used the onboard DOM connector and it works fine.
