4 out of 5 eggsCold War Heats Up in this Dystopic Thriller

Pros: Great 60s feel, complete with bongo drums and anti-Russian zeal.

Cons: Slows a bit. The suspense is not that suspenseful.

Other Thoughts: I've seen this movie a few times, once in the theaters in the 70s. The idea of a super computer taking over is not that new. However, it pre-dates James Cameron's thriller, Terminator, and does things a lot different than Cameron's "Skynet" in wishing to wipe Man from the surface of the Earth.

Forbin has developed a super-computer to cope with America's intense Cold War with the USSR. Times are intense. Even the actor who plays the president looks a little like Kennedy. And they power up Colossus, rather than act as a defensive grid against the Russians, he decides to take matters into his own hands.

The computer has been programmed to prevent war. What better way than to take over Man himself and become its caretaker. Forbin is not happy with this. When Colossus demands to be hooked up to its Russian equivalent, Guardian, it expects its demands to be met. When refused, Colossus starts lobbing a few nukes around to show he means business!

Most of the movie centers around a sec

5 out of 5 eggsThis is the voice of world control...

Pros: A classic movie that makes you think.
Has technology in it that is way before my time and reminds me how much computers have evolved.
Awesome ending.

Cons: They haven't remade it yet. With all the junk that Hollywood remakes they haven't done this yet.

Other Thoughts: It doesn't dwell on the technical aspects or techo-babble like some modern movies do. After a brief intro they get right into the man vs machine storyline. While this story line has been done recently, (IRobot and Eagle-Eye off the top of my head) to me this movie does it better.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great Move, I Love it.

Cons: No features, not even a start screen. That would have been nice for such a great move.

1 out of 5 eggswill make you think

Pros: Old movie,(1970) but even more relevant in todays ever evolving computer-dependant society. The scenario in this story was pure science fiction when made--but now....???? The ending is especially disturbing--- makes you think.

Cons: May seem a little dated, but the premise is more relevant now than ever!

Other Thoughts: - Surprised noone has done a re-make of this one, as the idea is more plausible now than ever with todays available technology.
