3 out of 5 eggsGreat, but didn't last

Pros: Splash proof, great battery life, easy read out, multiple settings and adjustments. I used this thermometer 1-2 times a day to get fluid temperatures, so overall it didn't get that much use.

Cons: The trigger button under the splash proof cover began getting stuck. It got to a point that I couldn't hit the button anymore and it was completely worthless. Tried opening it up to free the button but had no success. Lasted 1.5 years of very light use but should easily have lasted longer.

Other Thoughts: Will not purchase again due to issues listed above.

2 out of 5 eggsBetter IR thermometer deals out there

Pros: The adjustable emissivity is a cool feature, though it would be nice if it was more adjustable. Not sure what "splash proof" means, I suppose it is saying that it is not waterproof but slightly water resistant, not sure if this is even a pro.

Cons: The accuracy is really not that good. There are other thermometers that I would go with instead. Seems more complex than need be.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if Newegg has them, I do like Newegg. Fluke would probably be my first choice and a Kintrex second. Check out the models and the specs. If might be quite important the difference in the accuracy range depending upon what you are using this for. In any case I think the quality of those other two brands are the top two anywhere near this price range. IR thermometers will not be accurate on all surfaces. Some will absorb or deflect ending up in an inaccurate measurement. My use for IR thermometers are for automotive uses. In some cases a couple of degrees off does matter, in others not so much. Aside from mechanical uses I also use them to measure tire temperatures to diagnose tire pressure requirements. For more in depth tire measurements a probe tire pyrometer is necessary but for a good one is around $400 but worth it if you are serious about it.
So just ask yourself what you will use your IR thermometer for and check both the accuracy and reviews posted by others, perhaps specifically those that use them for a similar purpose. For this particular model it seems their own less expensive model is more accurate which does not make sense. But I would not be buying this brand myself anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Easy to use (point and "shoot" to measure), "instant" read (about 3 seconds), constant update while holding down trigger, displays last temp reading for a few seconds after release, auto shut-off, very sturdy, comfortable in the hand.

Cons: Battery cover is difficult to remove, but that is a minor nuisance. Accuracy varies by a few degrees, but works for my purposes: Measuring GPU's and other computer equipment for operating temperatures. Also used to find areas where cold air was getting into the house.

Other Thoughts: A little bit pricey, but very happy about this purchase.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks reasonably well

Pros: It does what is says it does. It appears to be accurate, and I'm pretty happy with it. Got this as a bundle with some SATA cables so I didn't have an explicit use for it, but it sure is fun running around the house measuring the temperature of everything. Turns off automatically after about 30 seconds. No need for an on/off switch. Nice.

Cons: As others have mentioned, it isn't very user friendly. You really have to read the manual to know what you're looking at on the LCD display. While this unit DOES have both a BACKLIGHT, and a LASER, but they are not turned on by default and it is unclear how to turn them on.

Other Thoughts: Hold the trigger, and while holding the trigger press and hold the C/F button to toggle the laser. Hold the trigger and while holding press and hold the "Lock" button to toggle the backlight.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great... after you turn everything on

Pros: Sturdy, multifunctional, and covered in rubber. Takes AAA batteries and does what I need.

Cons: It took reading the reviews to realize that I needed to turn the laser (and backlight) on, by holding the trigger and holding one of the black buttons. The instructions were a bit non-obvious, in the "add-value" table.

5 out of 5 eggsGAUGE ROSEWILL RTMT-12001 RTL

Pros: Awesome toy for any computer repair person. Bought it for my husband for a gift. We especially love the laser pointer and the light up back screen. This item will come in handy for many other things other then computers. Over all, this is a great tool to have and it works great.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: The battery compartment is a bit tricky to open but that just insures the splash resistant quality of the product.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: It works as advertised

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The battery cover is a bit difficult to get off, but that is a good thing imo. Just be sure to unscrew it and pull up from the bottom end. Toward the top is a little plastic hook/hinge, so dont try to pull from there.
