1 out of 5 eggsExtremely Disappointed

Pros: None

Cons: Didn't work at all out of the box. Used my phone camera to check that the remote is firing and, sure enough, it is. Just doesn't respond to any button presses. I'm guessing the IR receiver is faulty. Was really looking forward to these too. Now I have to spend almost half the amount I originally paid to return it and hopefully get the same thing I should have gotten in the first place.

4 out of 5 eggsflexible and bright

Pros: Weather proofing looks sound.
Lights are bright and you can get lower brightness with DYI colors.

Cons: Doublesided tape seems sticky enough, but as I'd expect with any rolled product, the covering on the tape (that you remove when applying) is not connected in several places. I dont use the tape, so this becomes a negative.
The unit I received had the last 12 LED lacking 'red' so I had to cut them off. This was cheaper than returning it, as shipping cost was almost have the price of the unit itself!

Other Thoughts: non-weather proof units are a bit more rigid, making straight lines easier when not using the tape.

5 out of 5 eggsI love them

Pros: Love these lights, I have had them for a couple years, and am surprised to just now see them on newegg. My father took an overseas assignment so I picked up six strands of these while visiting in China (I only payed 5-6 USD per strand so I figured I had nothing to lose, amazing what happens when you cut out the overseas importation and middlemen) but honestly if I needed one multipurpose LED strand I would probably shell out the 26 bucks to pick these up again. (current sale price) I have a glass desk in my room and these illuminate the bottom of it leaving an amazing effect when the lights are off and I'm gaming. I also used two strands to illuminate my little sisters homecoming float. The coolest thing about these strands is that you can mix the colors and have them strobe at different speeds making for a large variety of very cool effects.

The strand is modular so if you wish to make it shorter and know enough about electronics to know where to cut, you can snip the strand and have it still function properly.

Cons: Don't bother trying to use the sticky tape on the back, it was absolute trash so I used hot glue or double sided foam tape from the craft shop depending on which project i was doing.

Do not try to bend the strand sharply, make all turns gradual and if you must make a right angle you should make a small loop to be able to make the turn.

Other Thoughts: I actually converted a few of the strands I acquired to use a 9 volt battery, which ran strong for a full day and did not drain the battery. It was very simple to do, I just opened up the white receiver for the controller and soldered on a 9v battery holder where the power was attached to the board. It has the leads printed as +/- on the board so its very simple.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is a great product

Pros: Amazing amount of light, and in just about every color imaginable. Have had no trouble with them and now they are up for Christmas, fun to change the colors. This 16 foot string lights up the whole front of my house. They are dimmable too. They can flash, fade, while they cycle through all the colors.

Cons: they cannot turn a sharp angle, so all your bends have to be gradual arcs.

2 out of 5 eggsDied within 30 days.

Pros: A ton of ways to customize the color. The 5 meter strip was only using 6.5 watts at the color and brightness settings that I wanted.

Cons: I used these lights four times and on the fifth use they will do nothing. Installation was messy with the sticky tape and time consuming; especially now that I have to take them down after such a short time of use. I hope the RMA process is quick.

Other Thoughts: Poor quality "flimsy" remote.

3 out of 5 eggsOkay

Pros: 1. Pretty!
2. Lots of settings
3. Pleasing colors

Cons: 1. The sticky backside is worthless
2. I have mine stuck on using super glue and adhesive Velcro
3. The cut sections need to be wider. If you're not extremely careful when cutting the strips you'll damage the connectors and break all or some of the color channels.

Other Thoughts: You'll almost certainly want to buy some of the other products from HitLights that actually make these usable. For example, I bought some of the connects that allow you to cut the strips up and then reconnect them so you can have them at right angles. I'm not sure why they didn't just include a few in with these and put the price up 5 dollars.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Bright.
Cheap
Color changing feature is cool.
They still work after being outside for a month (LED strip only, we take the box and power supply inside every time)
Power supply and controller powers 10 meters of lights with no problem.

Cons: Remote functions are hit or miss, still haven't managed to get custom color cycles to work.
Connectors are essentially useless, we soldered everything together.

Other Thoughts: Buy the lights, skip the controller and use an arduino or raspberry pi instead.

1 out of 5 eggsRemote DOA

Pros: LEDs lit up with a cool red.

Cons: The remote doesn't work which means I can't control any of the colors. Just solid red. I have to also unplug it when i want to turn them off because of the DOA remote. $#@% it.

Other Thoughts: It sucks when you shell out $35+ for something expecting to work and it doesn't.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent value, but not perfect

Pros: Tons of colors to choose from. The 3M adhesive backing is VERY sticky and will permanently adhere to any surface. Great price. Can apparently be extended by adding another strip, and can be cut down to a shorter length. You can use an alternate RGB controller if you don't like the capabilities of the one that's included. Can be turned up VERY, VERY right.

Cons: The lowest brightness setting for any of the default solid colors is way too bright in my opinion and those of my family members that have seen the product. You can't simply dim the LED strip down to the point where it's barely visible and produces a nice soft glow (though you can produce a dimmer light by using the DIY functions). The strip rather rigid and can't be twisted or turned in any direction, unlike a rope like, so it's really only good for use in a straight line, or a straight line that wraps around gentle corners (not 90 degree angles).

Other Thoughts: I got these to replace the rope lighting that I have along my double staircase, which eventually goes out in sections. The rope lighting produces a very nice soft yellow/white ambiance in my house and along my stairway, allowing for safer use of the stairs at night without having to turn on the lights, and it's barely noticeable when it's not lit. I figured these strips would allow me to do the same thing but would be more discrete, and more importantly, allow me to set it to any color I desired, and perhaps even use a pattern during the holidays.

Laying down the strip was easy enough until I needed to go around the corner at the top of the stairs, when i discovered that the strips were very rigid and didn't bend sideways or slightly twist well at all. Not a huge deal, but unlike the rope lighting which can be bent in any direction (though not at very sharp angles either), it was impossible to have this strip laid down flat facing up as it went around the corner, and it doesn't look clean or professional at those spots.

Another thing I don't like about it is that the strip is covered with what looks like microchips (even though those are actually the LEDs), copper connectors, and solder points (perhaps not actually solder, but again that's just how it appears). Basically it looks like a white strip of computer circuitry, and isn't at all a pleasant appearance when it's not dark out and the LEDs aren't lit up. I got the indoor sets, but I presume the weatherproof ones have some sort of clear plastic sheath over them, and maybe that might not look as bad, though I also imagine it makes it even more rigid and difficult to go around corners.

My primary complaint is that the LED strip can't be dimmed down very low. The lowest brightness setting for any default color, particularly white, is very bright, and the highest brightness setting was literally blinding. From the upper stairway and hall, it lit up my living room, stairway, vaulted ceiling & hall. That's fine that they can go so bright, but very disappointing that they can't be dimmed down to a soft ambient glow. I found that you can create any color you want by using the DIY setting, and if you turn the RGB values all the way down to their lowest setting for each color, it's WAY dimmer than if you just pick one of the solid colors on the remote and turn the brightness all the way down. If not for that, I probably would've had to remove these entirely since they were simply too bright, or find another RGB controller with better dimming functions.

I haven't messed around with attempting to create any fading/dimming/flashing/alternating sequences yet, but the remote has some of that functionality already pre-set, including a white strobe effect and a couple fades and flashes. Overall, I would definitely recommend these to anyone that wants some custom LED lighting, whether it's semi-permanent, or even just a one-time use for a party. At this price you can use it once and
