5 out of 5 eggsAmazing case overall, but tiny details keep it from being perfect

This review is from: IN WIN D-FRAME MINI BLACK Black Aluminum Computer Case Support ATX12V/EPS (Up to 220mm) Power Supply

Pros: The build quality is just about flawless. The frame is extremely strong and very lightweight--with out any parts installed, it can easily be handled with one hand. The glass panels are gorgeous and seem less fragile than you might think. The screws that hold the glass in place are stabilized by rubber grommets that keep your glass from getting chipped. The rubber bumpers around the outside of the frame stay in place nicely and generally won't come off unless you want them to. The hard drive trays and the radiator tray are very stable and I have no fear they will come loose or jiggle (and they can still be easily removed when needed.) I'll get into more of why I like this case in "other thoughts."

Cons: There are four small details that could be improved. One: the case comes with some plastic clamps that help with cable management. The problem is that there are only one or two holes where you can actually install these clamps so you will end up with a few going unused. Two: the cables coming out of the front panel seem unnecessarily long. It is nice to have some extra slack when you need it but, this being a mini-ITX case, you probably won't need it. This makes you wish you could make more use of those clamps. Three: the hard drive trays don't work well with SSDs. I have two Samsung 850 Evos and I can't mount them on the trays because the SATA power cable cannot plug into the back of the SSD when it is attached to one of these trays. Hard drive power ports can be reached just fine, but the SSDs sit so far forward on the tray that the power cable cannot reach. Luckily, there are other options for mounting SSDs to this case. But it would be nice to be able to fit more than two of them. Four: using a full length GPU in addition to a 240mm radiator means you will have to mount the radiator in a way that prevents you from using the bottom HDD tray. This may not be true for all radiators, so I'll take about it more in "other thoughts."

Other Thoughts: I love this case. It has the aesthetics of a high end Italian motorcycle. It's strong, breathes well and allows me to use very high end components in a mini-ITX package without compromising for size or heat. Building with this case is very convenient because the mother board tray, radiator bracket and hard drive trays can all be taken off of the frame for better accessibility. Even the GPU mount is easy, I installed my XFX 290X far easier in this case than I did in the Rosewill Thor V2 (which is a gigiantic full tower case.) All this in addition to being ultra portable for a full-powered desktop. It is so close to being perfect! Which is why the small flaws are so frustrating. The only flaw I will expand a little more on is the radiator bracket. I use an H100i GTX liquid cooler, and the tubes prevent me from putting them on the left when I mount it combined with a full length GPU. So, it is mounted with the tubes coming up from the right. This means they pass through the area where the bottom hard drive tray would be. Lucky for me, I only needed the top two. Some radiators might have more flexible tubes and avoid hitting the tray, so your experience may vary. Still, easily a 5 Egg rating.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Sausce!!

This review is from: IN WIN D-FRAME MINI BLACK Black Aluminum Computer Case Support ATX12V/EPS (Up to 220mm) Power Supply

Pros: Very clean lines, pretty much any configuration has been thought of. Tons of options, portable....The back side can look as clean as your imagination can go. Room for a 240 RAD. Can be stood on any side (6) altogether.

Cons: Not a lot of space on the back side for 4 pin cables, the case has room for a huge power supply but is only made for a 4 pin stand off mother board. Only room for one double wide/slot video card.

Other Thoughts: I did not buy it here but if you can get it for a good price, its well worth it. Need some color matching cable ties, if it is red back ground then red wire ties would be awesome. For the retail price I would never buy this, but if you want a work of art case and have the money to toss...............

Manufacturer Response:

Pros: The case itself looked fantastic in my setup.
Easy to fit in a space.

Cons: The case was a bit different when I came to managing cables and was hard to fit some things in.

5 out of 5 eggsD frame review

This review is from: IN WIN D-FRAME MINI BLACK Black Aluminum Computer Case Support ATX12V/EPS (Up to 220mm) Power Supply

Pros: - Open case to allow airflow
- Easy to see inside the case incase it might get dusty or cords get caught
- Very cool to look at if you have ok cable management skills
- Small and portable, easy to carry around

Cons: - Not protected by the elements, in theory can get more dust in though it is counteracted by the easy opening of the case. So far I haven't had a dust problem a couple months in.

- Need to buy fans seperately
- USB cords hanging out the top can look tacky

Other Thoughts: Really cool case. The installation was easy and despite having some hiccups, none could be pointed back to the case. I'm going to make a couple hooks to hang on the wall to make more desk space.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: IN WIN D-FRAME MINI BLACK Black Aluminum Computer Case Support ATX12V/EPS (Up to 220mm) Power Supply

Pros: Construction, Looks, Size, Quality, Open Air

Cons: Size for some, does not come in Blue or Green which I would of preferred over the Red allot!!

Other Thoughts: I am running a Gtx 980 msi, an I5 processor and cooler master hyper 212 evo, I have two 120mm cougar red led fans on either side of the I5 and it runs super cold around 30-45c regardless of gaming etc. The 980gtx does not have any additional fans and max has hit 70c while hours of gaming. Dust is not and issue after 3 months, I will probably dust it maybe once ever 6 months and with you sides to worry about take a minute or so with power duster, this accumulates less dust then any case I have owned so people complaining about dust who don't even own the case lay off. This is a 5 star review, anything less I would suspect is a troll or does not own. It is so solid! Feels good to pick up with build in handle and can use this forever just paint it if you are bored of red, orange or black. The rubbers grommets places all over the case keep it from sliding on any surface. You can stand it up or lay lenghtwise, I have it standing up and so only 14 inches long same footprint as a show box mini Itx!! Worth the money I paid 289.00 on New Egg and would not hesitate to buy it again. I am one of those kinds of people always wanting another case, never satisfied. This is the first one I am not looking for next best thing! Do not hesitate to buy this case the Quality is top notch cable management is very good as you can place them behind motherboard and then the smoked glass covers that up. Buy one before they stop making it! In Win make a Dark Blue, Baby Blue, Forest Green and Lime Green Version, Yellow, This is 10 times better then the Wobbly Prodigy No Regrets, Happy too bad no place to add a picture for my rig here.

2 out of 5 eggsEditor's Choice Award - Seriously?

This review is from: IN WIN D-FRAME MINI BLACK Black Aluminum Computer Case Support ATX12V/EPS (Up to 220mm) Power Supply

Pros: None

Cons: What is this? It looks like a bed-frame in a horror movie. Anyone who has the knowledge to built a computer wouldn't buy this tubular nightmare except as a joke for a secret-santa party gift.

Other Thoughts: With only one review, this product is advertised as an "editor's choice award?" Peleuzz. For long time Newegg customers, don't insult our intelligence if a newegg buyer has overstepped her/his abilities and bought too much of this carnival-looking case or whatever it is.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Dr. M,

Thank you for your opinion on our D-Frame Mini Black case.
In Win have other mini-ITX case models available with a more classic design if you are interested.

We would like to hear your suggestions to improve our products, please e-mail us at customerservice@in-win.com.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely the BEST

This review is from: IN WIN D-FRAME MINI BLACK Black Aluminum Computer Case Support ATX12V/EPS (Up to 220mm) Power Supply

Pros: Build quality
Attention to detail
Fit and finish

This case is premium in every way. There are rubber washers and grommets in all of the right contact points, the thumb screws are spring mounted to their individual components and even the loose screws and parts come in well labeled bags that are separated and sealed.

The finished build is beautiful, functional and rugged. In Win outdid themselves. My expectations for other cases have been raised with the D-Frame Mini as my new gold standard.

Cons: The only thing that's a con to this chassis is that it will accumulate dust (it's an open format) and will need to be lightly dusted with compressed air from time to time. Even this is easy to do, though, as the open chassis means you have to remove nothing to clean.

Other Thoughts: I got this case direct from InWin before it was made available to the public as I work in the PC components industry. It's an amazing case with an unsurpassed build quality.
