2 out of 5 eggsNice Looking - But not great

Pros: Great looking case - great materials - lots of room for drives and an EATX board. I had no problems with cables reaching where they had to go.

Cons: I'm very dissapointed with this case - poor rating due to a design flaw below.

The problem is poor ventilation - I have a dual 771 server board and it constantly overheats.

There is no cross flow in the top "compartment" ( why they chose to make two compartments is beyond me ). The fans on top just short-circuit air between themselves at the rear of the case - actually, the blower that comes with this generates a lot of heat ITSELF - the surface temperature of the front and top of this case are between 130-150 degrees F @ 65-70 degrees F ambient temp!

I wrote Lian-Li customer support a week ago - no answer back.

Hopefully some new ( better ) fans may help. There are no flow specs available for the Lian-Li fans that come with this, but they seem very "weak".

Also, I don't understand why they didn't put in a $x reset switch on an expensive case like this.

And finally, NOT SO QUIET as advertised, then again - all the fans are running at full speed to try to cool t

Other Thoughts: If you have a high heat producing system - chose another or look at the PLUS II version of this case with the 12CM side mounted fan which might be a bit better.

4 out of 5 eggsGood File Server Case

Pros: Fit/Finish, Style, Sound Dampening.

Cons: Mobo panel not removable, Mobo mounted upside down, wheels only roll forward and backward, cabling can get tight.

Other Thoughts: I have 12 hard drives in them of varying sizes, all PATA drives. Cabling becomes a nightmare with so many drives in close proximity. Also, I noticed with that many drives together, heat can become an issue. I'm the only one on the box and I typically use one drive at a time, so I have it setup to spin drives down after 5 min. After that, no heat issues. All in all, it's a good case and worth every penny.

4 out of 5 eggsBest case I ever had

Pros: Tons of space - cools nicely with the aluminum shell. You can add more case fans if you need them. Easy to work with. Extremely well-built and nice fit-and-finish.

Cons: USB and headphone/mike ports at bottom. Motherboard mounts upside down so you need longer HD cables than usual.

Other Thoughts: -1 star for the Motherboard upside down - I had to buy all new cable sets. If they changed that, it would be 5 stars easy. Since it's a server case, the USB and mike ports don't really count, but it would be nice if they moved them up top.

4 out of 5 eggsCooling needs

Pros: Nice looking case
good size

Cons: Cooling concern?
Airflow doesn't seem that great
I have 8 HD, 2 dual-core XEON, a RAID card in the system and it seems to be running hot. (50degree)

Other Thoughts: Any one has any recommendation on powerful (yet fairly quiet!!!) fans? Or a recommendation on a liquid cooling system for this chassis?

5 out of 5 eggsIf your lookin' for it, you found it!

Pros: Very large - Has plenty of space for even the largest of todays components regardless of need ir for (server/workstation/gamer/ect)
Very high quality construction - the case is designed very well and is very efficient. The construction is top grade, very sturdy, and components are well supported.
Very quiet - the case is arguably silent, with such efficient design and "zoneing" the 2 included low rpm 120mm fans prove great cooling with very low noise. The added sound insulation is a great extra.
Well thought out panels - I was amazed at how simple and effective the panel design in. To remove the side panels you simply loosen 1 thumb screw, pull the rail, and just lift the panels off. This design is great for quick access, and makes for a very sturdy mount.

Thumbscrews are not always a good thing - More and more manufacturers are using thumb screws instead of traditional screws, and in some areas its great but to hold down expansion cards its not a great idea. I found myself spending more time trying to twist those little things into place without jamming my fingers between the screws and the case, there is not that much room to work with.
Need longer cables - Standard 18 inch SATA and IDE cables will not reach for most users, and if you plan to use onboard SATA/IDE ports on your motherboard, the inverted motherboard layout makes the bottom 2-3 hard drive bays useless, inless you buy 24 inch or larger cables.
Not the best wire managment - There is not a whole lot of room to manage your cables, especially when they are already streched just to reach their devices. Luckily this is more of a cosmentic thing as even poor cable mangment in this case wont effect efficiency like it can in other cases.

Other Thoughts: This case was bought to house a data server, so storage was the focus. This one of a few cases large enough to hold 12 hard drives (more if you use your 5 1/4 bays). The drive bays are well designed, easy to mount hard drives, and with the 120mm intake, and 2x optional 80mmm exhaust you dont have to worry about cooling them either, perfect for servers or large scale raid arrays.
I would certainly reccomend this case to anyone looking for something of extremely high qaulity to store a lot of hard drives.

4 out of 5 eggsExpensive but worth it

Pros: Lots of room for *anything*
Solid construction
Everything has a thumb screw

Cons: Price
No 80mm fans for the rear bezel

Other Thoughts: Bought this case to serve as my Linux workstation. And in that regard it works great. Beware, this case is huge. The stock fans are a little noisy, but not bad. I consider my quad Apple G5 a completely silent system, and this case is pretty noisy compared to that. But when you consider the old creaky system it replaced it's much better. The "blower" fan that attaches above the PCI card cage area works pretty well, but I'm removed it when I installed the water cooling setup.

I've installed two of the COOLER MASTER SAF-S84-E1 80 x 80 x 25mm SuperFlo fans in the additional holes. They are totally silent and work well with the case.

Linux Fedora Core 4
Tyan S2895A2NRF motherboard
2 x Opteron 248's
NVidia 6600GT
2 x 250GB SATA
ENERMAX EG701AX-VE 600W Power Supply
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value

It's a great case.

5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Case!!

Pros: It's big. It's solid. It's quiet. . . and sooo sexy looking. Lots of room for hardware and air circulation. Photo of front door looked (to me) to be a smooth aluminum panel but it is actually milled with vertical lines. This case looks fantastic and is very functional. My first Newegg purchase. . . now I know. Thanks Newegg!

Cons: It think for the $$$ Lian-li could include a couple of 80mm fans for the back and an extra cd bezel.

5 out of 5 eggsSmoking good case

Pros: This case is well worth the money, and definitely a case that I'll keep for my future builds. The layout of the case makes things so organized. Not to mention there's tons of space. If you don't use it for a file server with a lot of hard drives, you can remove either of the hard drive racks and use the extra space for a water cooling system. It's so easy to swap parts and organize/hide wires that it makes me want to open up my case and work on it a few times per month.

Cons: The only con is that it is such a large case and you might need longer cables for some of your hard drives, depending on the layout of your motherboard. Longer cables can always be purchased for a few bucks so it's not that big of a deal.

Other Thoughts: I did have a little trouble seating my graphics card (6800GT) because the bottom of the bracket on the card was literally 1mm or 2mm too thick to fit through the slit provided on the case, but all I had to do was gently stick a flathead screwdriver in the slit on the case to expand it a tiny bit, and it worked perfectly. Don't let this discourage you from purchasing the case though, out of the 7 graphics cards I have, only one had this problem.

4 out of 5 eggsVery good case

Pros: Very well made case. This case has an abundant supply of room and they have improved it over 6 months ago (this is my 2nd case). This is the only case I know of with room for 12 hard drives (why I bought it) There is a complete set of quality hardware and nothing is missing except the reset switch. This is an excellent case for the modder and advanced user. Not recommended for a beginner as no power supply is included. Excellent case for watercooling and 900+ watt power supplies. Excellent professional appearance !!!

Cons: The price of this case has increased (but they added a fan also). Lian Li scores a 95% on design but lacks in not putting a reset switch in their case. (easily added) and their choice of routing for the wiring is not the best since the wiring is long enough (just) but can be secured and not stressed if it is rerouted. Accessories are over priced & a reset switch is NOT an available accessory.

Other Thoughts: This case is excellent except for the reset switch issue and Lian Li didnt fix it tho it was mentioned a year ago. (Why 4 eggs instead of 5)
