If you want to build a Gamer/HTPC you need to take a look at this case!

If you’re building an HTPC and want the flexibility of being able to use a high-end graphics card and the ability to use a high wattage power supply this is indeed the case for you.

It has a “lot of room” (relatively speaking) for an HTPC case. It has (2) 5.25 external drives bays, along with room for up to 9 Hard Drives… (6) Full size 3.5" hard drives & (3) 2.5" hard drives. The hard drive rack can be disassembled so instead of having (2) hard drive racks with (3) 3.5” Hard drives in each you could create (1) hard drive rack with room for up to (5) 3.5” hard drives… more on this later. It can accept either a full size ATX or the small micro ATX motherboards. On the front of the case it has (2) USB 3.0 ports, (1) e-SATA port, as well as HD Audio jacks (headphone and microphone). It also comes with (2) 140mm air intake fans with dust filters located on the right side of the case with room for (1) additional 140mm fan on the left side near the front of the case.

Cons: Kind of expensive, no front card reader.

Other Thoughts: My experience building an HTPC using this case:

For me the deciding factor was the ability to accept BOTH a high-end graphics card (up to 370 mm in length) AND the fact that it has room for a power supply capable of effortlessly powering my build.

...and let’s be honest... any HTPC build is going to be tight on space. The more stuff you pack into your HTPC, the tighter you will be on space.

In my HTPC build I had to remove the second hard drive rack to allow room for my Corsair HX-850 power supply however, because the hard drive racks are modular, it was possible to convert the remaining hard drive rack and make it capable of holding 5 hard drives, (4 full size 3.5" drives, 1 2.5" hard drive on top of the rack) instead of 4 hard drives. Additionally, I could have even put 1 more 2.5" hard drive on top of the 5.25 drive rack, although I chose not to for reasons mentioned below.

I personally would not recommend using the space above the 5.25" drive bay rack for an additional 2.5" hard drive for the simple reason that if you ever need to remove/replace this particular hard drive, you will need to disconnect the wiring going to these drives and remove/disassemble the entire rack; not that removing and disassembling the rack is difficult, but because I have both of the 5.25" bays populated (1 Blu-ray burner, and one Hot-Swap 3.5" hard drive rack) routing the cabling NEATLY and then attaching the (2) power cables, (2) SATA cables, and the Hot-Swap hard drive activity power cable was a bit tricky given the proximity of the (4) G.Skill Trident X Series RAM DIMMs, which have tall heat spreaders. The rear of the 5.25” Hot-Swap drive rack does get very close to these tall RAM heat spreaders however, there is a small gap which left just enough room to route the power and SATA cables to the lower Hot-Swap hard disk rack. I'd rather not have to play with that again unless I absolutely had to have one more hard drive. Additionally, because much of my HTPC’s cabling ended up under this 5.25" rack as well as under my (1) hard drive rack I was only able to configure my hard drive rack to be 4-bays deep, (plus room for (1) additional 2.5” hard drive on the top of the hard drive rack).

Due to the generous case height, which is slightly over 7” high, the PC-C60B is able to accept a hard drive cooler up to 140mm tall. I ended up going with the Arctic Freezer 13CO which keeps my Intel i7-4790K at comfortably cool temperatures… (that’s another product I would strongly recommend especially if you’re going with this case). I positioned this CPU cooler so it draws in the fresh air (coming in from the right side front 140mm intake fan) across my (4) RAM DIMMS and blows through the CPU cooler toward the rear of the case.

Because almost all of the cabling ends up under the racks (if your fussy about the wiring like I am and tuck most all the wiring under the front drive racks) what you end up with is a case that has outstandingly good air flow potential. Having said that… what I found actually works best is to turn the right side rear fan around so it actually exhausts the warm air from the CPU directly out the right side of the case rather than forcing it across the graphics card, when I did this I also removed the filter since it didn’t seem to make much sense to filter the exhaust air and I believe removing this filter actually allows for better air flow out of the case. I also added another Lian-Li BS05 140mm case fan to the available left side fan opening which brings additional fresh air across my hard drives. This fresh air then blows around the rear of my graphics card across the RAM toward the CPU and then directly out the right rear of the case.

What I think they could do to improve this product:

One thing I’m sad about is this case does not offer is a front memory card reader. I could have added one however, I would have had to give up my Hot-Swap hard drive rack which I chose not to do. Another thing is I wish they moved the 5.25” drive bay over to the left by at least an additional 0.5” in order to give more clearance and better air flow out of the right side front fan. Lastly, the fans that come with the case do NOT have any guards on them however, the BS05 fans, when purchased separately, do indeed come with metal guards and filters. I actually ended up buy a couple of 140mm case fan guards for my fans. That's the one disappointing issue I have with this case. For the money (this case is NOT cheap) it should have come with fan guards!

Conclusion:

Lots of room... phenomenal air flow (when you change the direction of the right side fans to exhaust air out, great layout, and the fans are extremely quiet!!

After this build I can honestly say I would strongly recommend this case for anyone building an HTPC!

Pros: Great look, excellent build features for what I need.

Cons: Stock fans suck and screws can easily strip screw holes. Buying all new fans in less than a month. Fan blades literally snapped off upon firing up. Never touched them other than plugging them in.

Other Thoughts: This was my very first build, and a challenging one at that since I wanted a HTPC on steroids. This case made my dream possible!!! Its not easy to make a mid grade to high end gaming rig and or OC friendly rig in a htpc platform when obviously space and airflow is always a compromise. You have to do a lil measuring and carefully chose hardware.

I have my GPU in the PCI slot that sits directly under the center drive bay mount/support brace with a .25" of clearance from both the brace and HDD bay. The cpu cooler is an updraft cooler that almost lines up perfectly with the lid vent, close enough to be functinal. Althogh your limited to 3 sticks of ram since the tubes on the cooler cover the first slot. With this cooler, you have .75" of clearance from the gpu, .125" from the odd, 1" from the chassis fan, 1.125" from the back, and .5 from the lid. Nedless to say, its a tight fit. One thing I did to help with cooling, I basically cut the bottom half of the ODD tray off, but left about .625" of material to retain rigidity. This obstructed quite a bit off the right front fan. Another thing to consider is some silverstone FF141B magnetic fan filters (obviously aluminum = non ferrous) as well as Lian Li's lid screen (PT-AF14-1B). Then use the included filter screw plate to attach both the screen as well as magnetic filter.

Thats about all I can think of. I hope this reveiw helps someone, even though my HW is a lil dated and obsolete, you can atleast use it for reference. Next to water cooling, its as good as it gets. Nonetheless, I am more then pleased with my purchase and you will too.

Pros: Lots of room for hard drives if you want to make this an htpc/media server as I did. Nice looking. Solid and well built.

Cons: Would be nice if the front wasn't so plain and maybe had a volume knob and a built in ir and remote would be nice. And some kind of display would be nice too

Pros: Smaller Case that supports an ATX board along with an AMD R9 280X GPU. Plenty of ventilation along with a couple of 140mm fans. My Artic Cooler CPU fan is 135mm tall and it fits in here as well. your HDD's will fit with an optional 140 mm fan just be mindful of the way you put your HDD bay brackets back in. front USB 3.0 and esata is a plus! This case is a couple of inches shorter than my last one so all my cables and cords in the back aren't bent in a ninety degree angle anymore now.

Cons: My complaint would be no rear exhaust fans but I did read that before I bought it.

Other Thoughts: I put another 140mm fan next to the drive bay but before I did that I took the filter off that since it's an exhaust fan and not a fresh air fan. I figured it's a moot point to have a filter on one that is blowing hot air out. I took that filter and place it on the lid since my CPU fan is a push pull type and it does seem to help ventilate my system better. My PSU has a 140mm fan on it as well and use it as an exhaust fan as well instead of flipped over sucking air from the outside. With an ATX Mobo you can have four HDD's and a SSD. You'll have to take trhe bottom bay off the other one and screw in the applicable holes of the one you plan on using. It will fit and does leave room for drawing air if you run your cables in a neat and tidy fashion.

Pros: I was able to reuse my surplus ATX MB and power supply.

Cons: Not compatible with OCZ SSD 3.5 adapter plate. The mounting screws are not the same size. Back in the box goes my SSD! I'm not at all happy with that.

Pros: Light Weight, Heavily Expandable, ATX and mATX Compatible, USB 3.0, eSATA, Sleek Design.

Cons: Lots of Screws, Additional Fans Needed, Loud OEM Fans, Pricey for what you get.

Other Thoughts: Some of the complaints about this case are warranted, but there's a lot that aren't. If your concern is good air flow, you don't buy a HTPC case... period. If you want a case that's easy to swap components without much disassembly, again you don't buy a HTPC case. That aside, this is a really light, heavily customizable HTPC case. Lots of room for HDD, Optical Drive, and IR Receiver/Display. It fits full size ATX which is a huge plus for those transferring their regular computer to a HTPC case. There's quite a fair amount of screws that need to be removed for installation, but you shouldn't be taking this apart more than once a year for upgrades. Air flow is not great, I'd recommend at least adding a Top Side Fan and probably move the Front Right Fan to the Front Left. The OEM fans are one speed and slightly loud, so you'll probably just want to replace them anyway. For the price it definitely doesn't seem like a bargin, but I got it on sale for $135 which made the whole thing a little easier to swallow. Overall, it's actually a good case but probably not worth $180... get it when it's on sale like I did.

Door for the cd drive broke, but it's my fault for dropping it and they sell replacements. Remember it's delicate. Fixed it with some epoxy.

Pros: Solid case, sturdy.

Cons: Had to remove one HDD bay so I could comfortably fit the PSU. The inside of the case almost seemed like a puzzle. Certain pieces/components had to be removed and installed in certain order so they would fit. Cannot see the optical drive light when in use. Dust covers for the fans are pretty cheap (and needs another one included for the top, optional fan). PSU interrupts the cross flow of air through the case (vent should be behind the HDD cage instead)

Other Thoughts: Good case for an HTPC. Decent amount of room left over once everything is installed. I wish the Lian Li logo was removable
