The new Elite 431 Plus builds upon Cooler Master expertise and delivers high-end features in the affordable market space. Cooler Master believes that just because something is affordable, it doesn’t have to lack features or be a “budget” product.

The Elite 431 Plus features a classic black Cooler Master design with clean, yet attractive lines. It has been built to last and uses high quality materials, unlike many “budget” products that tend to use cheaper materials that don’t last. It’s also been designed to keep the components inside the case cool and not only does it have space for plenty of additional cooling fans, but it can also be fitted with large CPU coolers, such as the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus.

  • newegg Excellent Cooling The COOLER MASTER Elite 431 Plus comes with one front 120mm blue LED fan, front ventilation design and four extra fan mounts for efficient ventilation and effective system cooling.
  • newegg External SATA X-Dock The external SATA X-Dock allows hot-swap data access to your 3.5" SATA HDD, eliminating the hassle of opening case and groping for the cables.
  • newegg Transparent Side Window The transparent side window provides a direct look of inner system. The blue LED fan gives out mystic light for an eye-catching fun.
  • newegg Easy Installation The tool-less design for 5.25" and 3.5" drive bay enables easy installation and upgrade. It also supports ultra-long VGA card within 400mm, making it an ideal dwelling for high-end card.
  • newegg Bottom Placed PSU The bottom mounted PSU design allows for independent and optimized cooling.
  • newegg Convenient I/O Panel One USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports and one mic jack & headphone jack allow easy access to a variety of peripherals.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Power Switch Wire Job!!!!

Pros: Right Case Size.

Cons: Power switch is poorly assembled at the wiring connection to the power button. Contacted Cooler Master, 3 weeks later, new panel arrived, system was build and only functional with a tester on/off switch. New replacement switch, SAME DANG THING!!!! DON'T BUY THIS CASE!!!!!

Other Thoughts: I have purchased over $100,000 in parts at newegg in the last 12 years, this is the ONLY GARBAGE buy, not bad, but a power switch, really Cooler Master!

Manufacturer Response:

Good Morning Valued Customer,

I apologize your power switch is not working correctly as we can replace it through our CM Fanzone Parts Request along with your purchase invoice and serial number at the link below.

I look forward to your response.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

Pros: -Cases with mesh fronts are the only cases I buy
-Case supports USB 3
-Love the motherboard mounts, some have a lip so you can mount the board and have the case hold it before putting the screws in.

Cons: -No where to mount a Solid State Drive so I took off an egg
-Only one USB 3?
-No side vent
-Side panel has no tint
-Cable management is minimal-average

Other Thoughts: Overall I would use this case again but there are a few things that I feel need to be changed.

2 out of 5 eggsFirst "miss" with Cooler Master

Pros: It's cheap.
It includes a front intake fan that's fair quality.
It's light.
The side window's a nice touch.

Cons: It's cheap. Not as in inexpensive, but "cheap." I just finished my first full desktop build using this case, and my only regret is not purchasing a nicer case.

All of the pros I listed have downsides. Yes, it includes a front intake fan, but that's all it includes. No exhaust fan, no lower intake, or upper fans included. To complete your case cooling (say, with a couple of twin packs of Corsair AF120s, as I did) you're going to spend another $40-70, buying nice fans.

It's light, but it's flimsy. The construction is fair, but doesn't feel super durable. I can't ding it too much on this, since it's truly structural enough without adding much bulk. This may be a pro for some, or a con for those who prefer more weighted, rugged products. There are some features (such as the break-off PCI covers, which are tough to detach and can't reattach) that put a bad, "cheap" taste in my mouth.

Also, keep in mind there's no native 2.5" drive support. If you're installing a SSD (and honestly, I think a minority of people aren't in 2014) you need to buy another adapter. That'll run you another $5-10.

But, my biggest gripe is the lack of cable management. The motherboard standoffs attach directly to the rear case panel. There's no where to route wires out of site or bundle them neatly. I sort of just pushed and bundled them towards the front of the case, since the window only covers the back half.

Bottom line: spend a little more and get a nicer case. The $40 or $60 you spend on the case doesn't look so cheap when you spend another $30 on fans and $10 on hardware just to make it comparable to other offerings in terms of included features.

Other Thoughts: I've owned several Cooler Master products, and this is my first real disappointment. Won't be buying another CM case.

Manufacturer Response:

Good Afternoon Valued Customer,

I apologize your Elite 431 is not working correctly for you as it was designed prior to the wide availability and cost effectiveness of SSD drives as all our models released after have a wide selection of mounting options for 2.5" drives. We do offer a 3.5" conversion bracket to accommodate 2.5" drives available through our CM Store or third parties online such as New Egg.

In regards to cable management as every build is different and require creativity with the many available parts on the market to route the wiring there are tie-downs to assist in wire-management in this case (that we have also revised in our new models to accommodate builds in 2014 and beyond)

Our Elite 431 is an all around computer case for those looking for value and overall simplicity to customize to your liking.

Please let me know for further questions.

3 out of 5 eggsReview after 4 yrs use; Cooler Master 431 Elite Plus case

Pros: Plenty of room for cooling fans (5). c/w one installed. Water Cooling "openings" if required
Plenty of room for HD's (5), or more if you use ext 3.5 and 5.25 bays
Tool Free
Fits full size Video card (12 inch), depending what other hardware you.
Quality of case is good (compared to some mid range mid tower cases) install.
Hot Swap Bay!
Looks good!

Cons: 1 - Poor cable management!
2 - HD and Rom drive tool free brackets are lacking. 2 for ROM drive (that's ok), however Cooler Master should have included brackets for all available int 3.5 HD bays (5 available, came with 2). I had to purchase 3 sets separate at a cost of $15.00 extra.
3 - Rear slot covers are not replaceable once you have removed them. If you need to replace, you must buy separate.
1 Mobo "Stand off" screw stripped, Be careful when installing

Other Thoughts: Overall, after 4 yrs of use; I am happy with this case. Lost 2 eggs for above cons, however, I would still recommend this case. If you are going to install lots of hardware, buy a bigger case with better cable management.
My rig;
Z68 mobo
i5, 3.3, second gen. CPU
8 GB's ram
550 PSU
550ti GPU
3 - 3.5 HD's (1-primary 10,000 rpm, 2 - 7200 rpm storage
With stock CPU fan and 3 case fans, PC idles at 34-38 deg C. Under load 55 deg C (max)

My rig runs like a top!

Happy with case (other than cons above). I would recommend, depending on usage.

5 out of 5 eggsLOVE this case!

Pros: Well-built, comes with a gaggle of screws (all black to match--nice!), good-sized window, lots of space for drives, easy to work with. GOBS of room for 120MM fans. Great circulation.

Cons: None so far. If I had to list one it is that the PCI slot "covers" aren't the removable, screw-in kind--you have to permanently break them out of the case. Which is fine, unless you're a knucklehead like me and remove the wrong one and now I have an open gap in the back. The glowing power LED can be annoying at night as well, but I just unplugged it from the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: My son bought one of these cases and I liked his so much I thought I'd get one for my new build as well. I like the PSU-on-the-bottom set-up. Plenty of room to work in. I love the built-in bay for a removable SATA device--easy to plug an SSD in there. I'd definitely recommend.

4 out of 5 eggsNice LOOKING case

Pros: Nice looking case, wide enough for Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler (more on that in it's review). Medium weight steel case for better sound deadening. Easy drive mounting, lots of room for cable management between motherboard and drive bays, but not behind motherboard.

Cons: Break away tabs for PCI slots, not re-usable. Make sure you break out the correct ones or you will be scrounging for old filler tabs.

Poor threading for side panel thumbscrews and stand-offs. Hard to start and easy to cross-thread. Got 2 standoffs in slightly crooked and then the screw from the motherboard side cross-threaded in the standoff. Fortunately my motherboard only required 6 standoffs, as I used 2 of the three extras to replace cross-threaded ones. Could barely get the CPU heatsink backing plate off through opening on the back (Asus M5A97 Motherboard). They could make that hole go at least 1mm lower on the panel behind the Motherboard.

The cable connector for the front panel USB 3 port is a funny 20 pin connector that does not fit anywhere on my motherboard, thus the front pane USB3 is not functional until I find a PCI card that works with it.

The included case fan was only a 3 pin connector, making Motherboard fan control less effective. Also, it came mounted in the front bottom of the case, and it's ridiculously short cable was not long enough to reach any fan connector pins on my motherboard,. Unless you have a fan connector on the lower forward corner of the Motherboard, it will not reach. The only way to power that fan would be with a cable extender or directly from the power supply which means running at full speed (and noise) all of the time. That fan got moved to the back upper rear of the case where the cord would reach a Motherboard connector, and the 4 pin fan I bought extra is now in the front of the case.

Other Thoughts: I've done multiple builds. Liked the Cooler Master Storm Scout case, (as well as MY Thermaltake case), but this one was on sale, so gave it a try. It worked, but there were a few items that were frustrating, like poor thread tapping.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great case!!! Especially for the price. With water cooling options, 4 options for 80-120mm fans, and a cool sleek design, it's a great case.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Budget Case

Pros: Low price tag
A lot of fan mounts, support for 80mm-120mm (come with one 120mm fan that is pretty quiet)
All black screws (more then enough to get everything mounted)
X-Dock (hot swap sata)
USB 3.0

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Tool-less drive mount. It's a PRO if you want them/need them, but in IMO they don't add much value (I would have liked to have an extra PWM fan instead).
