CM Storm Scout 2 Mid Tower Chassis

The highly anticipated recreation of the benchmark in LAN gamer cases, Scout 2 offers refinements on its predecessor’s design to arrive at a theme steeped in the future of combat. These refinements are bolstered by improved steel reinforced carrying handles, bolted to the core structure. Front console connections have been updated to USB 3.0 while offering protection from adverse travel conditions with hidden sliding cover. Support for current high-end hardware is greatly increased by a removable HDD cage that supports VGAs like the NVIDIA GTX 690 and AMD HD 7990, making the Scout 2 better prepared for all conditions. Scout 2 comes in Midnight Black, Gunmetal Gray and Ghost White color.

Pickup and go at a moment’s notice. Scout 2 comes equipped with comfortable and durable rubber-lined steel reinforced carrying handles that are bolted directly to the steel frame.
Scout 2 can support up to 9 fans for maximum airflow to keep your chassis cool.
The HDD cage can be easily removed to accommodate long high-end graphics cards.
A quick sliding cover protects your ports against damage from travel and other household hazards. It includes 2 x USB 3.0 and 2 x USB 2.0 ports with audio jacks and a LED On/Off switch.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid case

Pros: Good solid case. Easy to install stuff. Included fans are quiet. Came with plenty of screws and drive mounting rails.

I have 7 fans installed not including the P/S fan and it is whisper quiet and everything runs cool.

Cons: I had trouble installing a Thermaltake fan control screen in one of the external drive slots. The screen's housing is far shorter than a CDROM drive and there is no way to put a screw in anywhere because the outer housing of the case blocks screw holes that are near the front of the case. It's install I just can't hit the screen very hard or it my push farther into the case.

4 out of 5 eggsCase review

Pros: So far every thing is good. really cool inside and great for space and cable management. I love the carry handle at the top making it easier to carry.

Cons: I did not receive a back red LED case fan which is one of the reasons i chose this case the color would go great with my other parts. It's not a big deal i did receive a black 120mm fan in the back instead. There are 2 clear 120mm fans in the front but no LED kinda upsets me.

5 out of 5 eggsSleek & Functional

Pros: Strikes a great balance with the design. It's cool without being overbearing. It's also got a lot of extremely useful features.

The popouts on each side, combined with the routing cutouts are supremely helpful in keeping everything tidy. I had no problem running pretty much all my cabling out-of-sight through the back panel, while still very orderly and accessible.

Plenty of fan-mounting options. I actually don't use these, but there's plenty of room to upgrade for air cooling. It doesn't look like it'd be hard to mount the radiator for a liquid setup either.

Dedicated LED on/off button. Super helpful. I usually run a very 'stealth' look, with no LED's. But sometimes I want to feel flashy. Now you can do both.

Oversized carry handle. Not only is it handy and secure for moving your rig around, or in my case, picking it up to clean my desk, but it's integrated well into the design. Doesn't look odd or out of place.

Cons: The LED on/off button looks and feels exactly like the reset button. If you just feel around for the switch without looking, you're constantly going to accidentally restart your machine.

The plastic quick-mounting system used for the drive racks are a bit loose in there tolerances, and feel a little cheap. They ultimately get the job done, but can be a bit loud with a regular HDD. Fortunately, my main drive is an SSD, so unless I'm accessing my HDD's I never hear it. If you're running an SSD you probably won't notice. But you'll care a lot if you have to use a CD drive a lot. Spinning up a CD sounded like a gyrocopter taking off.

The bottom-mounted fan slots have a pull-out dust filter, yet the front intakes do not. The dust filter has to be removed by taking off the side panel and popping off the front panel from behind, which means maneuvering around the HDD rack. There's no easier way to clean the dust from the front intake, which collects the most dust. Ultimately not a deal-breaker, but seems like a major design oversight.

5 out of 5 eggsPhenominal!

Pros: Excellent looking, LOTS of fans and air movement, cable management, air filters, front USB 3.0, plenty of room for expansion and will accommodate the largest of video cards, integrated carrying handle, etc...

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: The case is phenomenal!!! I went from an Antec 900 to this and am blown away. It is better in every way EXCEPT the side window should have been larger. Other than that its awesome!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case, recommended!

Pros: I got the first version of this too and it has lots of room, great look and feel to it, and the handle is very sturdy.

Cons: None really, maybe a little smaller case but its a full tower.

5 out of 5 eggsdid someone order a beast?

Pros: I love this case! It has room for so much and more! Ample space on top with a removable grill for twin 120 radiators, great cable management system that makes a mess look good, and buttons on top of the case with access door to Ian and audio ports. But the best thing of all? The top handle is rubberized making for the most comfortable lab box around! I look forward to showing this beast off!

Cons: USB 3.0 mobo connector is big. This interfered with my setup as the mobo (msi 970) I'm using is a bit shorter and cramped placing the on board connector right under the second video card. Now my vid card is pushing the connector like it were in a crowded bus.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Beast!!!

Pros: Strong, spacious, and sleek.

Handle holds well even with a combined weight of 44.8 lbs.
Interior has plenty of cable management space, as well as airflow for you people using air cooling.
Included fans are ok-ish...

Exterior has angles that make the case seem streamlined, yet rugged.

Cons: Filters?

Neither the side fan mounts, nor the top fan mounts have any real filter for dust, not worth taking off an egg since good dust filters are a dime a dozen.

Also from the the front intake fans tend to produce a pulsing sound when first starting up.

Other Thoughts: Good case for first time builder, casual gamer, LAN parties, and people like me who move their computer around a lot,
