CM Storm Scout 2 Mid Tower Chassis

The highly anticipated recreation of the benchmark in LAN gamer cases, Scout 2 offers refinements on its predecessor’s design to arrive at a theme steeped in the future of combat. These refinements are bolstered by improved steel reinforced carrying handles, bolted to the core structure. Front console connections have been updated to USB 3.0 while offering protection from adverse travel conditions with hidden sliding cover. Support for current high-end hardware is greatly increased by a removable HDD cage that supports VGAs like the NVIDIA GTX 690 and AMD HD 7990, making the Scout 2 better prepared for all conditions. Scout 2 comes in Midnight Black, Gunmetal Gray and Ghost White color.

REMOVABLE HDD CAGE
The HDD cage can be easily removed to accommodate long high-end graphics cards.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Cable Management (just take off both sides and loop through any cable to wherever they're needed)
Lots of room, and it's not super heavy (like a full tower is, but you get the space!), and sturdy (I hate the plastic-y feel of other cases)
After mounting the motherboard, it's easy to get to the back if you put in a different heat sink (most cases should already be like that, but you never know)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I had the first storm scout and loved it, this is a perfect upgrade with more space and much better cable management

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Case with only very minor flaws

Pros: - Roomy, didn't have any difficulty fitting everything into the case. Lots of room for cable management.
- Materials feel solid and the side panels are thick.
- Excellent air flow with more fan mounts than you could need.
- Great I/O ports on the top. Much improved to the original Storm Scout which I also have. I like that they can be hidden.
- Integrated rubberized handle has already proven extremely useful even for just moving the computer around while building it and moving it around after having to replace my desk.
- I love the LED fans on the front. They give the case a great color accent. I also like that the LED can be switched off when you want total darkness at night. I just wish that more LED fans were available that could be controlled with that on/off switch.

Cons: - Biggest reason I didn't give it 5 eggs is that some of the case's panels and grills are prone to vibration. The top removable mesh fan covers for example would rattle due to fan airflow or vibration. I had to apply small bits of electrical tape between it and the case frame to prevent it. There is another area on the case that occasionally has an audible vibration but I haven't been able to pin point it. If the case had better vibration dampening on its re-movable panels and filters, it would make the case perfect for me.
- Limited water cooling options, however it is to be expected of a mid tower case.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended if you are looking for a very solid mid tower case. I have been using Cooler Master cases for years now and they never disappoint.

5 out of 5 eggsI love this case

Pros: Sturdy handle built into case
Removable drive bay so there is more room for GPU
Comes with fans that have a red backlight, and that matches the other parts I bought
Built in dust screens

Cons: At first, one of the fans in the back was making a clicking sound. Has since gone away

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a quality case that is easy to carry around, buy this one.

5 out of 5 eggsReally really like this case's practicals

Pros: I bought this because I am old and I go to LAN parties with other people who are old. So I really needed a handle, and those are shockingly hard to come by for mid-tower. Full tower yes, mini-ITX yes, not mid-tower. Like, this is only one of maybe two I even saw after 2 hours of looking.
What was really great about it was all of the arrangement and layout options. The cable routing holes on the middle line worked fairly well, there were a couple ones that bent more than I wanted, but overall the build stayed pretty clean. CM didn't skimp on spare parts. The processor install went pretty well as far as back plating and so on. The cages pulled as expected. The fan installations went pretty smoothly given the constraints of the mid-tower. The case held up pretty well to all the flipping I was doing trying to optimize the layouts. It isn't the highest-featured case you can find on the market, but it has the front-USB ports in a nice shield. Overall was really happy with what they did with this one, compares favorably to almost any other case or design I've dealt with.

Cons: The ATX install sheet is raised a bit high, which can create problems with the PSU install, as the screw holes won't line up without some pressure on the case/PSU. It did ship with a semi-working fan (but CM RMAed it right away). If you want a double-wide radiator, the structural on the case won't really accommodate it. However, I was able to get a 120mm radiator bracketed by fans on both sides on the rear panel (the recommended CM radiator mounting) and still fit the two fans on top. Also the noted lack of 8th slot (I think) which can be problem for multi-SLI. Front panel is a little scary to pop off because you rip it right from the front, but it does do the job.

Other Thoughts: You should buy this if you want a handle on a mid-tower. Also if you want ridiculous numbers of fans like me, or you just don't want to think about which mid-tower case to buy.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case, definitely better than my last case (Antec 900)

Pros: • Quality materials used and great design throughout
• Heavy gauge steel
• Sturdy plastic pieces (front Grill and the hardware included with this case)
• Removable dust filters included (for bottom of case)
• Large sub framed carrying handle (Rubber coated/lined)
• Black interior A+
• Power Supply mounting at the bottom not the top (But honestly, that’s how it should be)
• Channels between the case and side panels for cable management
• Watercooled ready

Cons: • Bottom filter trays are flimsy and can snap if you try to bend them
• Wasn’t able to utilize 1 standoff for my Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI Motherboard because there was no standoff location for it on this case (This could be the motherboard not the case as it does have standoff locations for both ATX and Mini ATX respectively)
• The rubber on the case handle feels lose

Other Thoughts: Considering all the pros I’ve listed above, you really do get a sturdy case, made with heavy gauge steel and what looks like ABS plastic, maybe polycarbonate (Not sure but worth the mention.) This case by itself has some weight to it so after putting all your other components in the mixture, you’re going to have a heavy beast on your hands.

The Front face/grill comes off and snaps into place just as easily and is a breeze to clean. I originally had this case on a flat surface near carpeted floor and dust was collected through it and wiped off clean with a dry rag. (It’s on my desk now.) There are two filter trays at the bottom of the case to trap dust that your PSU and optional Bottom 120mm fan will ingest (Be careful with these, they are very flimsy and can snap into pieces.) The reason this happened was because I was trying to bend one of them straight since it seemed to have come out of the mold with a slight curve which prevented it from fitting snug in the tracks the slide in underneath. Bottom line, is don’t worry about it, just leave them alone if they are loose.

The case handle feels lose (The rubber grip piece that is molded into the actual framed handle) when carrying it. This isn’t really an issue at all since the handle itself it built into the case so it’s still sturdy either way you slice this review.

This case has so much room for my needs that I found myself wanting to add more to it. This case can definitely handle some serious builds and has the room for anyone looking to mod or custom inside and out including watercooled mods. That being said, it has plenty of room for cable management. The side panels protruding out giving it an astatic look that is also functional for that very reason. It has access holes to tuck your cables over to the dark side (Don’t mind my Star Wars reference) underneath your motherboard on the other side of the panel.

Final thoughts here, this case is worth the money. Buy it and be satisfied ;)

Intel i7 4790k
Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI Mobo
NVidia GeForce GTX 460
(Coming Soon: MSI Radeon R9 380 DirectX 12 R9 380 GAMING 4G) I will update on this care and fitment for this case, though it shouldn’t be a problem considering this case has the room to fit it.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than my Corsair Special Edition White Graphite Series 600T Mid-Tower!!!

Pros: Plenty of fans can be put in my case, including one on the bottom.
Carrying handle makes it easier to move when needed/wanted.
Cabling management is better and easier to manage than my Corsair case.
LED's on fan can turn on/off when I want them too.

Cons: Wish it had an option to turn a second set of 120mm fans into a 140mm fan.
