5 out of 5 eggsLove This Case

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: -Lots of air flow.
-Works great for a Gaming PC box.
-Can support Long Graphics Cards.
-Can Support ATX and ATX mini Mobos
-Easy to work on or tweek.
-Online Forums that explain how to mod the case.

Cons: -Power button is red. They need to frost the glass over so the red LED does not shine so bright in your eye or on your wall.
-Had to bend one of my drive bays to hold my Fan Controller because the toolless bay would not hold the right side of my fan controller but only my left side.
-Could use some after market dust filters for front of the case that will not make it ugly or seen.
-Should give an option to buy the top as mesh or windowed. I had to order off the Cooler Master Website the top panel the windowed part because the mesh lets in too much air flow.

Other Thoughts: I gave it five eggs because this case dropped my CPU temps almost a whole 10 degrees with it making a wind tunnel inside of it. Both my Video Card and CPU stay pretty cool. Running an AMD 6300 Hottest I got the CPU was 43.9C my GPU is an EVGA Gforce 960 SC and it also lowered that temp from the load being 40.2C down to36.5C. I like this case a lot but I wish I could order side panels that were not grilled but windowed as well. I do not have the space where I live to mod my case like I have seen others do online, I do low how easy everything fits into it and love how easy it is to change things inside, I am always adding and removing things to my PC and this case suits what I need. I plan on buying another one to make into a NAS Server when I have the time and money.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat choice at a great price

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: Horizontal MB lowers stress from heavy video cards and CPU coolers
Easy to work on: lots of access, don't need to lay it on its side
Great looks
All the storage options you probably need
Easy to find power button and reset button

Cons: Adding more storage devices after MB install requires either awkward threading of cables or removing MB tray

Other Thoughts: Really like the case. Much more convenient to work on than a tower. Excellent for use on the desktop. And unlike so many cases, I can easily find the power button in the dark, and it is easy to tell the power button from the reset button by feel. My wife liked the case too, it is her favorite of all the ones she's seen, so I just ordered another for her new build.

Our one worry is this old bulimic cat we have, so we picked up some 4" Ikea Capita legs ($14) and used them to build a 14"x16" shelf that sits on top of the unit. The 4" of clearance will allow easy air flow, and we can then keep stuff on top of the systems.

5 out of 5 eggsBest case I've ever had!

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: - Case design gives me easy access to all components. No more cutting my hands in cramped cases!
- Separate motherboard tray and top-level placement of motherboard make prospective motherboard upgrades much less daunting.
- Removable hard drive modules make SSD upgrades a snap.
- Sturdy construction
- Supports Cooler Master Hyper 212 CPU cooler
- Plenty of fan options
- Desktop placement saves floor space for my legs and feet

Cons: I have no dislikes at present. I will keep this case for a long time.

Other Thoughts: - if you are a frequent upgrader, tester or system builder, this is the perfect case for you.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Case, Slight defect

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: Stupid easy to do cable management with this case. Really good air flow

Cons: Looks like the front dust mesh has a hole in it, Kind of a bummer because it throws the look of the case off.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks but not without flaws

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: The power supply mounting is the best design I've seen by far. The removable dust filter and use of a spacer to keep the PSU off the base of the case is an excellent design. The HAF 912 doesn't have this feature and I had a piece of paper clog the vent and kill the PSU.

Cons: The xdock connector has two SATA ports - broke with little to no force. What broke away crumbled in my hand - had to remove the board and connect the hard drives directly. Not impressed with that design or use of materials.

Other Thoughts: Would like to see the option for large fans mounted on the left and right sides of the case to cool the top and bottom at the same time. May be interesting to see the PSU mounted vertically with the bottom fan directed toward the side of the case.

5 out of 5 eggsBest value case in the cube form factor?

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: -Very well constructed, feels sturdy and durable
-LOTS of air flow, lets components breathe
-Horizontal MOBO helps minimize stress on PCIe slots from heavy GPUs and CPU coolers
-Removable MOBO tray makes installing components in the bottom chamber relatively easy
-Fun to build in, looks SEXY when completed
-Built-in fans are surprisingly quiet

Cons: -The SATA power connector for the hot-swap bays is on a short cable that is stiff
-All of the unfiltered air flow allows dust and other airborne particles easy access to the internals

Other Thoughts: I purchased a custom filter kit from DEMCifilter that virtually eliminates the second con. I had my eye on this case for quite a while and was excited to use it for my build, WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I was looking for

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: This was the only reasonably priced case with a horizontal layout. The other horizontal cases were more of test benches. With that said, this case is set up to be "semi-test-benchy" with things like hard drive hotswapping, but it's not annoying and everything feels firm. The case also comes with a bunch of extra parts, you can set it up for ATX and Micro-ATX, overall very pleased with the price, quality, and design.

Cons: Nothing really. I had a little bit of trouble mounting my hard drive to the tray, but that was an extra 3 minutes of work for a case that I plan on having for the next 5 years.

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic case with minor issues

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: Extreme positive air flow
Runs very cool
Looks amazing, especially with an LED top fan
Includes two 120mm fans.
Radiator mount in the front
Can fit more in your case than you think you can.
Super portable and light, easily transportable.
Sturdy despite being aluminum inside.
You can get a clear top panel if you want one.

Cons: Included motherboard tray standoffs did not fit the motherboard tray (your experience may vary).
Cable management may require some creative engineering.
USB cable may require some care to seat properly.
You will have to disassemble everything to get to your power supply and drives in your case.
Manual is pretty unhelpful.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for an ultra-portable case that moves an insane amount of air, look no further. I use this as a gaming rig that I can pick up and move with me, and it works great. The internal design is a multi-tier setup: the power supply, drives, and cables go on the lower level, the motherboard sits flat on the top. The case is large enough to support even large graphics cards with a water cooling system, and you should even have space to run SLI. Be advised, however, that extreme cable management and creative installation of your devices will be a necessity here. You will want to use the included zip-ties to tie anything in the way down because space and airflow is at a premium here, and anything cables in the way may end up getting sucked into a fan and you'll have a terrifying chopping sound coming from your system. The motherboard tray is hit or miss. It comes with standoffs for your motherboard in the included screws, and you are going to want to install those, but mine were so wobbly in the tray that when I attempted to screw the motherboard to the standoffs, turning the screws just spun the standoffs! I eventually worked around this by installing standoffs from another motherboard tray which worked fine (except for one that I had to have someone clamp with a pair of needlenose pliers), but I shouldn't have had needed to do that -- a little disappointing for a name as big as Cooler Master but there you have it, and with some creative engineering I made it work regardless.

When completed, my case booted and ran instantaneously, though the USB front panel didn't work... so one disassemble and cable reseat later and it started working. I can't explain it, I really thought I seated it well the first time.

I recommend you get one of those Cooler Master Megaflow 240mm top fans and install it in the top. The one with the LEDs has this cool optical illusion effect where it looks like a cryogenic gas is spraying into your case.

Ultimately, an excellent case despite a few minor issues.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat design with a few overcomeable flaws

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: - Ample room for even the largest of graphics cards and CPU coolers. I have a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 760, which is a massive card, and a Cooler Master V6 CPU cooler, which stands very tall. Both items fit within the case without issue. This is the first case I've owned that fits the V6 with room to spare.
- The two level design makes it fit nicely on top of a desk or table.
- Designed for quickly swapping out parts, so it makes a great test bench case. The top and sides come off quickly and easily.
- Two internal 3.5" bays, two external 3.5" SATA hotswap bays, two 5.25" bays.
- Two carry handles on either side make it very easy to pick up and carry this case.

Cons: - While the upper level is very roomy, and lower level gets cramped very quickly. Cable management is a must, especially in the lower half of the case. Full-size ATX power supplies fit, but it's a tight squeeze behind the hotswap bays.
- Only included two 120mm fans, both behind the front vent. I had to also order a 200mm fan for the top, a 120mm fan for the upper rear, and two 80mm fans for the lower rear. When ordering a 200mm fan for the top, make sure it has the correct mounts.
- There are no external 3.5" bays for things like 3.5" card readers. The doors on the hot swap bays are connected to the trays and won't close with things that have faceplates that are meant to be flush with the front of the case, so I had to drill new mount holes in my 3.5" card reader so it could be mounted on the tray and the door still closed.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I really like this case. I've had no issues with it I wasn't able to find a workaround for to suit my needs. The lack of cooling is easily overcome by ordering a few more fans, which cost me $30, and taking a fan out of my old case.

This case is very solid and surprising larger and heavier than it looks in the pictures.
