4 out of 5 eggsGreat design with a few overcomeable flaws

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: - Ample room for even the largest of graphics cards and CPU coolers. I have a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 760, which is a massive card, and a Cooler Master V6 CPU cooler, which stands very tall. Both items fit within the case without issue. This is the first case I've owned that fits the V6 with room to spare.
- The two level design makes it fit nicely on top of a desk or table.
- Designed for quickly swapping out parts, so it makes a great test bench case. The top and sides come off quickly and easily.
- Two internal 3.5" bays, two external 3.5" SATA hotswap bays, two 5.25" bays.
- Two carry handles on either side make it very easy to pick up and carry this case.

Cons: - While the upper level is very roomy, and lower level gets cramped very quickly. Cable management is a must, especially in the lower half of the case. Full-size ATX power supplies fit, but it's a tight squeeze behind the hotswap bays.
- Only included two 120mm fans, both behind the front vent. I had to also order a 200mm fan for the top, a 120mm fan for the upper rear, and two 80mm fans for the lower rear. When ordering a 200mm fan for the top, make sure it has the correct mounts.
- There are no external 3.5" bays for things like 3.5" card readers. The doors on the hot swap bays are connected to the trays and won't close with things that have faceplates that are meant to be flush with the front of the case, so I had to drill new mount holes in my 3.5" card reader so it could be mounted on the tray and the door still closed.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I really like this case. I've had no issues with it I wasn't able to find a workaround for to suit my needs. The lack of cooling is easily overcome by ordering a few more fans, which cost me $30, and taking a fan out of my old case.

This case is very solid and surprising larger and heavier than it looks in the pictures.

4 out of 5 eggsLove the case only minor issues

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: - Lots of mesh/fan spots for high air flow

- love the 2 hot swap drive bays they work great

- love the tooless design, makes for easy access to inside(unless your using 200mm top fan)

- lots of space around mobo and underneath for wire management

- handles are nice

Cons: - my top 200mm fan didn't fit the holes, holes were rectangular my fan has a square mounting, ended up drilling holes in the mesh
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106224

- the power supply is a bit cramped into the hotswap drives back, it work ok and nothing is uncomfortably close but it makes things difficult.

Other Thoughts: i love the case overall!

3 out of 5 eggsGREAT case BUT it needs some improvements!

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: 1) Depending on your use the footprint can be a positive OR negative. In my case it provides a positive. 2) Compact design allows a substantial air flow across the motherboard and components in the top half (upper deck) of the case (see the cons concerning the lower deck below the motherboard).

Cons: With a compact case it should be expected space is limited, with that in mind... 1) You'll want to be sure to use a modular power supply with this case (one which allows you to use only cables that are necessary) if NOT then things are going to get crowed around the power supply. Look at pictures/video reviews of this case internally, especially those that are fully populated to get a better sense of the space requirements. Especially a build that does NOT use a modular power supply. 2) The clearance allowed internally behind the hard drive racks (both the removable hard drive bays and the internal 3.5" rack) is going to be extremely tight when all the cables (SATA/power) are connected. The rear of both racks have very little space between them and the power supply. The cables behind the internal 3.5" rack with standard 3.5" SATA hard drives snapped in will be "nearly" pinched. This can be managed BUT be careful or jacks and plugs are going to be damaged if things are not installed carefully and proper strain relief provided (there are zip tie mounts strategically positioned for strain relief). There is a PCB board on the back of the removable drive bays with some frail connections used for the SATA power plug that can be easily damaged if bent or twisted, zip ties are a MUST here. This should entail a better designed. 3) The removable hard drive racks can NOT be locked and are easily opened. This could be disastrous while the computer is on and operating, especially during active hard drive operations. Locks are a MUST for removable hard drive bays. 4) The bottom deck does not include the rear mounted 80mm fans (x2) and are highly suggested, especially if ALL the hard drive racks will be populated. I would even go as far as attaching via Super Velcro a 92mm fan along the side of the removable hard drive bays (where no fan mount is provided) to aid the cooling of those bays. This lack of available cooling is noted in some reviews as causing possible hard drive failures. Additional holes should have been provided in the sides of these bays to allow for greater air flow around installed hard drives (you can drill additional holes in lieu of this oversight). 5) The top grill of the case is advertised as allowing for the mounting of a 200mm fan and I purchased one to mount in the top grill. Well, LOOK VERY HARD at the pictures/videos of this grill and note the holes are NOT aligned as a PERFECT square and let me know if you are successful mounting a 200mm SQUARE fan without drilling new holes in the grill, I was NOT able to mount my 200mm fan. The fan holes in my grill measured exactly 180mm x 110mm (a rectangle) which you can notice when looking down on the top grill, no where close to a 200mm SQUARE mount. My request for help on this matter to Cooler Master has yet been unanswered...until today (March 14th) Cooler Master replied stating the 200mm fan is NOT a standard 200mm fan and REQUIRES the Cooler Master 200mm "MEGAFLOW" fan (did anyone read that anywhere in the specs or description)? So be WARNED, do NOT purchase a STANDARD 200mm fan for the top grill, look specifically for the MEGAFLOW fan.

Other Thoughts: Unless you are into case modding keep in mind this case is designed for simple use. Mount a motherboard with required components, an optical drive, and jam it full of TB hard drives (or SSDs) maybe using RAID and a quad video system. It can be a simple but powerful gaming rig. Using a 200mm "Megaflow" fan in the roof along with ALL other fan options in this case will provide a GREAT cooling environment, especially if using a Corsair liquid CPU cooler such as the H50/70 with a 120mm fan mounted in the rear top deck. It should be highly noted that adding even an inch to the depth and width would have been a major advantage internally without detracting from the external footprint. Additionally, if you have an optical drive mounted in one of the 5.25" bays and don't have any major plans for the remaining bay, take a look at this NewEgg item number (9SIA3913US3586) as a way to further expand your hard drive flexibility. Note this item provides additional external USB 3.0 ports which will require an additional internal 19 pin header to use (most new motherboards provide a single 19 pin USB 3.0 header for plugging in your front panel USB 3.0 ports). NewEgg lists two excellent PCI-E cards which can provide additional internal 19 pin USB 3.0 headers depending on whether your motherboard has the required headers, check out item numbers N82E16815256006 or N82E16815287019.

5 out of 5 eggs"Cool" is the best way to describe the HAF XB EVO. And it does.

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: The designer of this case has obviously put machines together and knows what is needed. The case feels sturdy and has almost all thumb screws throughout and snap in hard drive rails. There are cable tie points embedded in the metal in key places. Also, adequate extra hardware was supplied to include a socket for the motherboard standoff studs. The built in HD swap bays are a big plus.

Cons: At 16 x 17 inches, plus room needed for air flow, it definitely takes up some real estate.

Other Thoughts: I have had a lot of cases over the years but this is the most versatile and well designed yet. I would strongly recommend it to a friend.

4 out of 5 eggsI love the design

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: I love the cube design, instead of the traditional tower. Excellent airflow ventilation, especially with the 2 - 120mm fans in front and the 1 - 120mm and 2 - 80mm fans in the rear, i didn't have to add the 200mm up top, but going to add 1 just because I can, lol.

Cons: the only thing I have a complaint about is the space for the power supply (EVGA 1200W Modular) is a little tight even with the extension

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: -Very attractive case
-Easy to clean
-Stays VERY cool
-Liftable motherboard tray makes wire management a breeze
-Set up like a test bench so the weight of the GPU and CPU cooler weight is spread out better
-You can actually SEE the cool looking side of the GPU
-The handles make it easy to move

Cons: -If you put a fan into every available space it can be a bit loud
-The LED on power button is a little too bright and sometimes it likes to blind my right eye, I dimmed it with matte clear acrylic

Other Thoughts: -10/10 WILL buy again when I am rebuilding my wife's PC, they are stackable so that will be cool too
-I hope they never stop making them

4 out of 5 eggsGreat case! Lots of room

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: 1) Case is about the size of a dorm microwave. It has room for a full ATX board.
2) Plenty of tie-downs and routing holes for cable management. The motherboard tray sits on rails with about a 1" (2.5cm) gap to the side panel (both sides are like this).
3) Both side panels and top panel and front bezel are removable. This makes building, cable routing, and troubleshooting so easy.
4) Tons of thumb screws! They come factory tightened, but once you loosen with phillips screwdriver, they're great. I only had one thumbscrew that wouldn't go back in (out of 6 on the panels, 4 on the mobo tray, and 7 or 8 on the PCI slots).

Cons: 1) Case is about the size (and shape) of a dorm microwave. Huge footprint. Definitely an under-desk placement for me.
2) High airflow means lots of dust and animal hair (if you have them). There's only one actual air filter on the case, and it's directly under the PSU mount. no filters on the sides or top, and fine (but permanent) mesh on the front bezel and hotswap bays.

Other Thoughts: 2 years into using this case and i still love it. i've upgraded my gpu, changed out hard drives, fans, lighting, and cpu watercooler. my cat loves this case, she sits on top (top fan blows out, so heat + huge flat spot = cat spot). it does get a bit dusty inside, but the top is super easy to get into to clean it all out. when i retire this case (eventually) this box will be for network storage i think.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: Love this case, probably best case I have ever owned for decades

Cons: nice to see a few more 5.25 bays or 3.5 bay that could be accessed from outside to allow hot swap for more drivers if need be or controllers ect....

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome looking case!

This review is from: Cooler Master HAF XB EVO - High Air Flow Test Bench and LAN Box Desktop Computer Case with ATX Motherboard Support

Pros: -Lots of room
-looks awesome
-lots of space for fans (I run all 6 slots)
-The easy install / swap locks on the 5.25" bays are SUPER easy to use.
-Although other say the hot swap bay kills their drives, i have the 2 80mm exhaust fans on the bottom level and my HDD never goes above 25C, so I'm not sure what they are doing wrong, but this case is fine for HDD in the hot swap bays.
-Removable motherboard tray is great and every case should start doing it

Cons: - The hot swap bays are very close to the power supply, so if you are like me and went all the way to a 7.1" PSU, the cords are VERY close to the drive bays which isn't fun to deal with. It does work, just annoying to install.
-The manual isn't very good, but it's a case, so you can figure it out pretty easily without it.
