CM 690 III
Introducing the New Generation of the Iconic Cooler Master 690 Series – CM 690 III!
The CM 690 III is a revolutionary update to the popular CM 690 II mid-towers. The exterior retains the curved metal mesh look that the series is known for. The interior has been completely updated – the HDD/SSD combo cage can be switched between 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives via adjustable trays without any screws. There's enough room for a 240mm liquid cooling radiator at the top or front, 120mm in the rear and supports up to nine fans, including three large 200mm fans for extreme airflow. And cleaning is hassle free thanks to the multiple dust filters at the bottom, top, and front.
CM 690 III Details:
  • Full mesh on the front panel and top with large vents on the side panel for superior cooling
  • Three designated places for radiators: 240mm: top & front; 120mm: rear
  • Supports up to three large 200mm fans for extreme airflow with support for up to 9 total fans (KKN1: 9 fans, KWN1: 7 fans)
  • New ODD tool-less design "EZ tray" for quick installation
  • Supports up to 10 SSDs (4 in the removable HDD/SSD combo cage, 1 behind the MB tray) and 7 HDDs with HDD/SSD combo trays
  • Dual Super Speed USB 3.0
  • High-end component support – long graphics cards up to 423mm and tall CPU coolers up to 171mm
  • Multiple removable dust filters (top, front, PSU) for improved system maintenance
  • Top compartment with cover to place personal belongings

5 out of 5 eggsSo lightning does strike three times.

Pros: Here goes:

- Black on black, as has been a staple of the CM69X series Cases.
- Lots of layout customization, again another CM69X Staple
- Lots of cable routing options, did not even need the extra space granted by the backside panel "Extension."
- Accessory box filled with all the necessary hardware for any devices where tool less install is not an option
- EASILY REMOVABLE FILTERS! Thank you Cooler Master!
- Beautiful Fan-less side window for those who enjoy admiring their handy work. (Also available in a less-expensive solid window that has 2x 120mm/14mm fan mounts.
- included 120mm rear & 200mm front fans move lots of air and are super quiet.
- included cable routing and external liquid cooling grommets included. (CM Confirms this was only an issue on first run cases, all further models should be shipped with all shown grommets.)
- As to be expected with the CM69X series, I found no sharp edged, no poorly assembled components, etc.
- Front panel USB and Sound ports are firm and sturdy.
- Entire hard drive cage can be removed.
- Lower hard drive cage can be retained and moved rearward to support a 360mm Rad in the front of the case.
- Room in bottom of case for 120mm fan if need be.
- Top of case Supports any of the following cooling configurations:
> 1x 200mm fan
> 2x 140mm fans
> 2x 120MM fans
> 1x 240mm radiator w/ 2x 12mm fans (push & pull not recommended)
- Super tall rubber feet allowing for tons of airflow to the PSU and optional lower intake fan.
- Access doors slide on much easier than previous models.
- Cubby by front I/O system is handy but....
- SSD Mount on back side of Mobo Tray, talk about a stealthy install.
-Adjustable HDD/SSD drive tool-less mounting hardware. this feature alone is very well done.

Cons: Cons are few, so no loss of eggs. However they deserve mentioning.

- Black finish scuffs/ scratches much easier than previous versions in the CM69X series. though if you're careful this wont be an issue.

- while the cubby is kind of handy why was there no X-Dock of any kind included? this was my favorite feature of the CM690 II Advanced case. PLEASE bring this back, or provide an optional add on.

- rear fan only 120mm, no 140mm... why?

- Only one routing hole directly below the MOBO, and that is the opening for the PSU bracket, while for most builds this could be enough, the available routing options of the CM690 II were a little better here.

Please keep in mind none of these problems are major in anyway. I'm knit picking at this point for objectivity.

Other Thoughts: Here are some facts to note simply for transparency.

- push pull impossible without removing top filter panel (though this can be done without removing the primary top trim piece, depending on your build and style this could have a really awesome look to it.) or without super thin 120mm fans.

- only 3x 5.25 drive bays. While not widely important, those of you that like you're 5.25" drive HDD mounts or fan controllers, be mindful of your selected accessories.

- front panel is a little picky if you rotate the fan at 90* increments.(there are two stabilizing pegs that interfere here.) 90* either left or right from stock and the front panel will not fit correctly. Be mindful with aftermarket 200mm fan systems. not a con, just an observation.

- as part of the con I mentioned earlier, the black finish inside the case scuffs rather easily. And while attempting to remove my upper 2.5" HDD Cage, the force required to finally free said cage scuffed the top of my 3.5" bays and the sides of the 2.5" Cage pieces. Since this level of friction could have been a result of poor handling in the shipping process, again no eggs lost on the product..

As a final roundup;

The CM69X series have played home to my last 3 major personal builds so I am very familiar with this line of cases (my first being the OG 690 back in 2007.)

Admittedly, going into this build I was super hesitant, I had concerns that CM May have lost their touch, or that it would not live up to my expectations. Well I can happily say that those concerns were unfounded and while I did list a couple minor cons (what case doesn't have a couple?) The CM690 III Mid tower case has quickly become one of my favorite cases of all time.

Everything from the cable routing options, the crystal clear clean lined window, Stealth SSD Mounting, Tool-Less install, and removable filters... To the extended side panel, quality components, customizability, freedom and the Solid and vibration-free build quality have come together to build an absolutely phenomenal case that only improves on the CM69X lineup.

Despite the Lack of X-Dock, and the ease of scuff on the internal coating, this case is easily one of the best cases for the money. You can NOT go wrong with a CM69X series case, period. They are amazing, and I dare say the best in their pricing bracket hands down.

So please, be mindful of my knit picking and be sure this case is right for you. But lets face it, we all know it's the right one. So go for it, I am positive this case will never disappoint.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate review

Pros: Massive airflow, lots of room for cables, easy to maintain,
looks stunning, use the little box on top to hold side screws when i am maintaining it. I used the included water cooling system and i am very happy with it. i did however replace the fan it came with, i used Corsair Air Series SP120 120mm PWM High Performance Edition High Static Pressure Fan (Twin Pack) for a push pull config and it works awesome. when running World Of Tanks on the highest settings my temps still never go over 35C, i am happy. was easy to install. . i am also running a Gigabyte GTX 770 OC 4gb video card. and the temps never run over 47C on full game mode.

Cons: no cons except some of the alignment pins on the front cover were broken, prob from shipper
Wish the hoses on the cooler where about 4 inches longer . but they worked out with a rear mount.

Other Thoughts: i would recommend this case for any builder.
I am running 8 fans in this beast and i used a NZXT Grid Ten Port Fan Hub, this thing is awesome mounted it on the back of the motherboard tray. very out of sight.

My System,
Cooler Master CM 690 III
Seidon 120V water cooler
MSI GD65 gaming motherboard.
Msata 240gb on the main board
16gb G.skill ripjaws z 2133 memory
CORSAIR Vengeance Airflow Memory cooling fan
two Cooler Master CM Essentials 140 for top exhaust
two cooler master 120mm fans one on drive cage and one mounted on the bottom to push air up
Gigabyte GTX 770 OC 4gb video card.
Corsair RM750 750w PSU

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great case, just enough room to work in without making the case unbearably huge and everything fits snug. Anybody wondering, the Corsair H105 fits perfect on top

Cons: Some places were a little tight but nothing was too hard to get in so everything looks perfect in its own place

Other Thoughts: I didn't use the bundled cooler, I heard some bad reviews but mostly just because of noise, but even without using that, it's still worth the price

5 out of 5 eggsSpacious

Pros: Looks are deceiving, this Case is Huge! Outside, it looks like a Mid Tower, Open it up, You'd swear it's a Full Tower. Huge cutout behind CPU, for aftermarket HSF's, cutout for the 8 pin ATX,. More than enough room to Hide cables out of Sight, I even threw in a Gig GTX 760 with room for another. You can tell this Case was designed by someone who knows/has Built a PC. Airflow is great.

Cons: Tilted expansion slots raised my eyebrows, but eventhing slipped right in, nice & comfy, so it's no biggy.

Other Thoughts: What's with the Seidon WCS anyway? I'm using a CM N520, 4 fans and after running AS III Fan Xpert, temps are 29 idle & 42 @ load. Running OCCT @ Full load (100%) for 5 mins, temps never topped 62. Fan speeds dropped down to < than 600 rpm @ idle, I had to reset threshold to 400 so BIOS wouldn't shut me down. Running a ASUS Z87 Pro with i7 4771, that's not to bad. Puppy is as Clean & Cold as getting out of the shower, Brrrrrrrrrrr....

5 out of 5 eggsBest mid tower

Pros: 1.Really nice black mesh design high quality material
2.Lots of fan options to mount on
3.The rubber on the feet really makes your case sturdy
4.Ventilation is really nice my GPU has coolest Idle ever 25c on aircool
5.Many radiator mounting point
6.Dust filter are now easy accessible on the bottom and top

Cons: 1. Mine did not include a rubber grommet on the cable holes
2. No led on fans included
3. The mounting point of 200mm is really tricky especially the top one you have to remove the whole top cage which has a release latch on each side to portion of the case.
4. The 200mm fan is sideways in case you guys wondering how to install the fan correctly ( saw a guy who review it that he cut the side of his fan there is no need to do that. The fan logo on the back should be reading sideways for the fan to be install correctly and be able to close the front case.
5. Limitation on the rads only 240mm on top and front and 120mm on the back is the rads that can fit (wish it has an option like 280mm rads on top and be able to mount a 240mm rad on the bottom)
6. The cover on top is really a gimmik like the other said when its open the cover is just sitting on it you will loose it the locking mechanism on works when the case is close, when you have a usb connected on it the cover just sites there and when you knock the cover it will fall.

Other Thoughts: I did not deduct any star on the case since I really love the looks and it meets my needs. I have been choosing on corsair obsidian 450d and this one. I went with cm 690 III because of the following
1. It let you mount a 240 rad on front without loosing the HD cages unlike on 450d you lose the hd cages when you mount the 240mm rad on front.
2. It has a lot of fan option unlike the 450d your stuck with 120mm and 140mm fan only
3. It has many cable holes especially on the top and for the hd audio pass through on the bottom the 450d does not have other holes on top only the holes for 8 pin thats all you get on it and the pass through the hd audio is no there.
4. The side of this case fits my side case of HAF 912 which has a window and fan holes on the side really love it since that is the case i am replacing with this and it fit perfectly on it.

And that's it for my review of this case I did not tried the cooler that comes with it since I will use a h100i on this machine so cant really say anything on that but for the price and case i say its a bonus.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect bang for pricce

Pros: - Modular Drive cage
- great cooling and airflow options
- almost dustproof
- Free water cooler

Cons: - none for me

Other Thoughts: the water cooler included is not the best performer in world but it gets the job done better than some air cooling options. cooler's pump does have a high pitch noise which is mostly masked during day time, but at night time it can very annoying. However i am deeply satisfied with this case as this was my first ever build and it was a breeze to work with this case.

4 out of 5 eggsQuality Nice, but cooler is eh

Pros: +overall solid construction-strong, folded steel, plastic won't snap
+Plenty of room for fans, HDDs, SSDs, CPU coolers etc.
+Modular hard drive bays (completely take the top 5 out, use as 3.5 in, or convert to 5 2.5 in bays)
+quality dust filters on front and bottom that are easily removable
+HUGE space behind the motherboard tray for cables-made cable management a breeze
+HUGE side window-I'm a sucker for big windows, and this one looks really professional, yet a bit flashy too
+tray at the top is extremely convenient for sd cards, screws, and all the other little things I always loose, but no more!
+clean, professional aesthetic

+water cooler has good performance (Athlon X4 750K @4.1 GHz from 3.4 GHz stock, stays at ~60C under load)
+water cooler looks really cool (In my opinion) with a blue led and silver trim

Cons: -NO rubber grommets. I thought this was an industry standard by now. Adding grommets would make the case perfect for me.

-water cooler began to make a rattling noise about 2 weeks after I installed it(kinds sounds like a fan with something stuck in it). The noise is really annoying so I'll try to RMA it.

Other Thoughts: I completely stand behind this case and recommend this to everyone: it's all-around built well and I can tell my friends at Cooler Master put a lot of thought into it. Props to that. However, the Siedon water cooler has some quality issues (not only me). I'd suggest to get just the case; the water cooler is a gamble.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Beautiful case, great airflow. easy cable management nice size all i expected. water cooler works awesome silent no nose whats so ever. keeps temps low. 23c @ idle and around 43c running games got to love it.

Cons: was not excited to open the box cause i could hear things rattling around inside. turns out all four of left side front cover alignment pins where broken off.. poor shipping maybe?? the cable ties that come with it are very brittle and unusable, instructions are lacking for my taste.

Other Thoughts: if this thing came unbroken it would be 5 eggs.
it is an awesome value.
i will not be returning the case as i needed my build now i was on a loaner PC. so was pressed for time

3 out of 5 eggsCase - YES / Cooler - NO

Pros: Case -
• Case looks great
• Good space with a lot of options to fit your needs
• worth the money

Cooler -
• Has the ability to get you excited wit the prospect of getting a free water cooling system
• Looks like something that works

Cons: Case
• No problems, really. I like the case quite a bit - it was worth the money

I'm sure the cooler itself works fine... I never heard any clicking noises like other people reported. However, It wasn't keeping my processsor cool at all. I had the problem that others have reported - that the bracket that's used to tighten it to the mobo is so poorly engineered that it is nearly impossible to get the thing to make decent contact with the processor. My system kept overheating and shutting down. I reinstalled 3 times.
Here's the problem:
• the bolts that go through the back have no way of staying in place firmly; they spin as you try to tighten the nut on the other end
• I had to use needlenose pliers to hold the bolt in place, but the nut strips the threads as you tighten the cooler into place. Due to this, I could never get the cooler on tight enough for it to make proper contact

I uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times. I finally just went back to using my old air cooler.
I could request a new bracket, I suppose, but I don't have a lot of faith that the outcome will be any different.

Other Thoughts: The case is very nice; worth the money alone. If your looking for something subtly stylish with great features, this is the case.

But don't get too excited about the water cooling system, as it seems to be a random lottery on who gets the combination of Good Bracket & Functioning Cooler.
