5 out of 5 eggsClarifying some issues

Pros: The included PSU isn't as sketchy as other HTPC builds.

The side-fan is quiet and effective.

Easy to build in

- Supports large 3.5" Drives

Cons: There is a misconception that the PSU fan is loud, that is not the case. Because of the width of the case, most people will be using a stock CPU cooler. This is OK, but-- because the fan is so close to the enclosure, the noise is more audible, not louder.

Great fans that will fit this case:

Scythe Kozuti
Noctua NH-L12
CoolerMaster GeminII

Other Thoughts: Don't be afraid of the case, it is well built and effective.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat's to complain?

Pros: Small form factor, simple design inside with plenty of ventilation. You really can't go wrong, if you are looking for a simple PC. I built one for a friend and for myself, hide mine behind my TV and use it as a media center.

Cons: The case fan finally burned out after a year of use, but the pc was basically running 24/7. The fan did help keep my ASUS itx combo board running cool. Easy fan to replace

Other Thoughts: I don't know why some people are complaining about the fan and the size of the case. Obviously this case is for a full integrated ITX motherboard, or at least one that you aren't going to be using to hook up a GX2 double fat video card. As far as the fan goes, I can't remember a PC case i bought that had fans I ever liked. Buy something quiet, they're not THAT expensive..

4 out of 5 eggsTight Case

Pros: Small and nice looking case which is great for a HTPC.

Cons: This case is tight! The slim BluRay drive I got, the front plastic bezel had to be sanded a lot to clear/open and close in the cases front CDROM opening. Power cables that connect at the rear of an ITX mobo will be right up against the hdd and cd brackets. Nothing too terrible/

Other Thoughts: The project came out looking good and the case is decent. I do wonder about the power supply and how long it will hold up and what replacements will be sized right.

4 out of 5 eggsAnd so it goes...

Pros: Small, not that expensive (until you need a replacement power supply), and small. :)

Cons: As one fellow said it's very loud. But what disappoints me the most is the lack of an expansion slot. How could anybody make an ITX case without one expansion slot especially when most all ITX motherboards have at least one expansion slot?

Other Thoughts: I bought this in late September of last year and I was sure I had written a review even commenting that I happened to have a slim DVD drive and now I had a place to use it. It was important that I left my updated thoughts.

3 out of 5 eggsRebate is a joke

Pros: Nice HTPC Case; Solid construction

Cons: Loud side fan; proprietary power-supply; sharp edges, so watch yourself!; won't pay rebate, or within a reasonable amount of time

Other Thoughts: The case is actually pretty nice. It's relatively easy to work in, but do be careful about sharp edges when removing the internal HDD/DVD bracket! The side fan is a tad loud. The case actually looks nicer than the pictures, but it does attract fingerprints!!

Note that it's a rebadged version of a Thermaltake SD100, with a different front bezel.

My problem with this case is the rebate. As long as you aren't anxious or don't care about the rebate, then this might be okay. I mailed a hec rebate at end of September. T&C stated 8-10 weeks for check. I call them 11-weeks later (after email on rebate form bounced!), and they tell me they aren't even going to look at the rebate submissions until January. Here we are first week of February, over 18-weeks since I mailed it in, and no check. Clearly they are violating their own terms.

Don't reward HEC with a purchase!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine here...

Pros: Compact design for HTPC functions well as a primary PC for constrained work spaces. Replaced the stock 60mm side vent fan with a Vantec Stealth fan, and the result is a very quiet PC.

Cons: Noisy stock 60mm fan.

Other Thoughts: Used this case for my sister-in-law's PC in the aforementioned tight work space. After replacing the stock 60mm fan, this unit is noticeably quieter than her old Antec micro-atx case, using a Foxconn Intel H67 MoBo, an Intel Pentium 2.8 Sandybridge, 4Gb DDR3 1333 and a WD 1Tb blue drive.

I've seen other people's complaints of an excessively noisy power supply, and I'm not disputing their claims, it's just that the one I received is remarkably quiet.

Sometimes it's the luck of the draw, but this is my 5th build using a hec case, and all of them have worked well.

3 out of 5 eggsHave another PSU handy...

Pros: Looks great next to other home theater components. Very easy to work inside. Includes all of the screws you'll likely need. Has just enough room for a basic set of components.

Cons: Included power supply was AWFUL. Even when only powering a 35W Intel i3 CPU, mini-ITX mobo, 4GB of basic RAM, 64GB SSD, and absolutely nothing else, it would frequently restart the computer at random. It was hot to the touch with the system at/near idle (yes, its fan was "working"), and even with a desk fan blowing directly at it with the case open, it would still brownout and keep causing restarts.

After some thorough troubleshooting to be entirely certain the PSU was at fault, I replaced it with a 220W PSU from another company I knew I could trust. Naturally, the random restarts stopped and I now have a rock-solid HTPC.

Other Thoughts: I don't want a replacement PSU from this company. Take a look at the reviews for the HEC200SA2FX (since that's what's in this case) on this site, add in my experience, and you can probably figure out why.

At least the rest of the case is pretty nice and more or less worth the price alone.
