4 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Plenty of Room for cabling, board and Graphics cards

Cons: Take the plastic off the window as soon as you receive it in case it needs to be returned.
Case came with cracked side window which I only noticed after installing all my components and then removed the protective plastic covering on the window. Contacted Enermax who wanted to charge me $8 to RMA. Returning to New Egg for replacement would have been free, but would have to disassemble and reinstall everything. So not worth the headache. Will have to live with the cracked window. Not happy with Enermax response. To bad, love the case otherwise.
Some of the wiring was short, but workable.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice case

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: - Plenty of space to work in
- Comes with all needed accessories (cable wraps, screws, standoffs)
- Default 3 fans included
- Looks nice
- Removable middle drive cage
- Flexible position SSD cage (can be mounted inside the removable drive cage or on bottom of case
- Convenient media panel on top of case (USB 3 and USB 2 ports, mic, headphone, power and reset switches, and a small storage tray)
- Decent price
- Good ventilation
- Plenty of brackets included to install drives into the tool-less drive cages
- Dust filters on the bottom of case
- Great fast shipping from Newegg

Cons: Not much negative here. Hunting for nits, I'd list these:
- The default installed standoffs will work with a variety of boards, but with the Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z97 we used, the side of the board closest to the front of the case didn't have many standoffs. Really a minor issue that caused no problems at all...but there were one or two holes on the mobo that didn't have standoffs and it'd have been nice to have had them covered to provide a bit more support. Not so much for regular use, but for setup when you're pressing cable and cards into the mobo with some pressure.
- The small SSD cage is flexible, but I think I also like what some other cases are doing where they integrate an SSD aperture right into the frame of the case or sometimes under the mobo tray. That would be less to fiddle with. If you use the Ostrog's SSD tray attached to the bottom of the case where it comes installed by default, it might be a bit tricky to wire up with the PSU right next to it. We ended up moving ours to the removable HDD cage in the middle of all the drive racks. Again, this is a really minor issue that shouldn't cause any real problems.
- The documentation didn't do a real good job of explaining the wiring. The cables are labeled well so you know which ones go to the power switch, the front media panel USB 3 and USB 2 ports, and the fans, etc. but would it have been so hard to have one sentence in the manual telling me which wire was positive and which one was negative? I think the reset switch cables are labeled with +/-, but most of the sets have a white wire and a colored wire, and an old fart like me is used to red for positive and black for negative. Easily solved with trial and error but, come on man.

Other Thoughts: I've built several PCs over the years although I haven't build one from the case up for a few years. You know you're getting old when it's time to teach your son how to build one. And then the son sees this Ostrog show up in the mail and says, "Oh, this case is better than any of the cases on your PCs!" Wow, thanks son, LOL. But he's right. It's a really nice case that just says, "gaming machine". Classically, I've always selected aluminum cases and worried about how this steel case might be in terms of weight, construction, and heat management. But now I see that modern cases are all pretty good and very modular. Steel isn't a problem at all. The case is not too heavy and the grids on the top, bottom, front, and back of the case, plus the 3 included fans, should not be a problem for air cooling. There is probably space here for water cooling too, though we're going to try this PC first with just air.

The tool-free design of the drive cages is very nice too. You'll need tools for the SSD cage to put screws, but HDDs use included brackets with rubber grommets to snap into the drive cages.

There were a few places where it might have been nice to have a few more cable management holes around the mobo, but nothing you can't work around. We are pleased with this case.

5 out of 5 eggsBig, tough, and looks good!

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: I love this box :) The expanded spaces to either side make installing large or unwieldy components easy ( or even possible). The extra room makes cable management far better than most other cases that I've had in the past. The extra space also improves air circulation, and my current build is one of the coolest I've ever had. The fan mounts offer a lot of room to work with in this department as well. The aesthetic scheme is really nice as well.

Cons: There is no way to install 12 fans, despite the specifications listed on this page. Perhaps if you could cluster 85's... but there are no installation slots for those, only 120's and up. Not a con per se, but don't be misled.

Other Thoughts: The upper console power indicator will shine right in your eyes if you keep the computer below eye level. Not a con, but it is a bit annoying. Wish it had been installed facing forward rather than up.

Not certain what's up with the cut-out in the upper right-hand corner. Any MB is going to install directly over it, so it can't be used for routing the CPU power (which would have been very nice and handy). Perhaps it's there to support the increasingly common MB integral radiators.

All in all, my favorite box so far! I highly recommend it, especially if you're using high performance, large components such as liquid cooling, 10+ inch GFX cards, or just need a little extra room to work with!

5 out of 5 eggsGood case

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Great case with plenty of room and good cable management. Some say the 240mm dual liquid cooler wont fit in the top but I got the Enermax dual cooler up there. It wont fit exactly in specified holes but will fit. Have the MSI 990FXA Gaming board in there with the liquid cooler in the top.

Cons: Large liquid coolers take some finagling to fit inn the top of the case but not to big a deal. Side window is tinted so some interior lighting is needed to show off your work.

Other Thoughts: Rear fan not LED. Quick swap out with a LED fan no biggie. As said in other reviews... The blue power LED is bright as hell! Small square of electrical tape fixed it.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good budget case

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Solidly built, good looking, plenty of room for cooling, decent amount of room for wire management, durable, build in filters, side panels come off with thumb screws, USB 3, built in fans are really quiet.

Cons: Lacking a little bit of room behind the motherboard for wires, I have a hard time closing my case with a bunch of extra wires shoved back there. Filters are a little difficult to put back on and are a little fragile.
The blue power light on the front panel is so bright. Like way too bright. And its on the very top so it shines its light everywhere.
Built in fans seem a little under-powered.

Other Thoughts: Pretty good budget case that has served me well for over a year. I have done some builds on more expensive cases and you can tell the difference in quality. But for the price this has served its purpose well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat bang for the buck

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Low Cost
Easy Installation
Superb Cable Management

This was my first computer build, and i selected this case based on price and overall good reviews of this product, also fit in well with the red theme i had going on.

My initial reaction was the size of this case, it's quite large, which is a good thing. I had no problems fitting my Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan. I did need to remove one of the hard drive cases to fit my ASUS GeForce GTX 970 STRIX.

The cable management is fantastic, you can hardly see any cables. There's tons of space behind the motherboard.

Cons: The blue LED power light at the top (to quote another review below me) "burns with the light of 1000 suns", which is extremely accurate. Man is this thing bright.

The smoke tinted window is also a little dark. I would prefer it to be lighter

5 out of 5 eggsGood choice

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: It's big. Lots of room for everything, including space behind the motherboard for the extra power cables. Fans are pretty quiet, and I like the dedicated on/off switch for the leds. You can remove the middle drive cage for longer video cards. I did, though it wasn't actually necessary, there was plenty of room for the GTX970. I think this case is an excellent value for the money.

Cons: A little tricky to get all the cables to reach, especially motherboard power connectors. The blue power led on the front is ridiculously bright.

Other Thoughts: It seems like a small thing but really the one thing I don't like about this case is the power led on the front panel. It shines with the light of a thousand suns, and since the case pokes out from under the desk a little, it's always right there in my field of view. When the system is sleeping, it blinks, and is bright enough to light up a dark room. I'm probably going to either cut its wire or put electrical tape over it. If you sleep in the same room as this case it would make a good night light.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome case

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Roomy, air circulation, good-looking, cable management options.

Cons: The only thing I struggled with is the front panel. The little knob-ish things toward the top are murder to get loose. I'll never have to again, though haha.

Other Thoughts: The thing I like most about the case is that if your heatsink fan blows up, there are fans that can carry that air out. Same if it blows back.

4 out of 5 eggsThird Build got this case

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: I haven't built a computer in a few years now, and honestly my old PC's are so far out of date I just decided to make a new one. I bought this case because well its mostly steel, I wanted something heavy, something sturdy and this case is exactly that. Lets get into what I think of it!

HUGE! It has so much room inside it that I was able to stand a 16" laptop up inside it, closed of course. I originally thought that the window opened via hinges, and I was a bit worried about this because I like to show off my rigs and hinges would ware out eventually, but thankfully its not hinges. The window panel is held to the case via two screws (you don't need a screw driver to unscrew/rescrew these in) The fans are pretty decent sized I'd suggest that when you buy this case that you buy additional fans if you plan to OC. The intake is huge, lots of places for the computer to breath with vents on the top/front/back/bottom. The HDD slots lock/unlock which is a plus, comes with tons of brackets/screws/zipties, oh the wire management is spot on, love it. A slot that is inside the case that runs the whole horizontal side of the case for managing wires so they don't show, huge +! The plastic is reinforced with steel inside so it makes the case very sturdy. I'd suggest this case for new or old builders, new builders you'll have tons of space for well everything and the wire management will make you look like a pro builder. The looks of the case are beautiful, the red accents on the front make it look like a monster!

Cons: My only con would be the fact that I need to remove a lot to get to the section of the case to pop out for a disk drive, that's really my only complaint!

Other Thoughts: There is a blue version of this that my GF is buying for her rig and I must say that both red and blue are quite stunning!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case!

This review is from: ENERMAX Ostrog GT ECA3280A-BR Black / Red Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Lots of 'back of the motherboard' space for cable management. I installed a non-modular power supply and had no problem hiding the extra cables neatly on the back side of the motherboard.

The case has real vented PCI slot blanks (vs punch outs on lower end cases).

If the light up fans aren't your thing, there is a switch on top to turn them off, or you can unplug 'just the lights' if you want.

The included 2.5" drive bracket worked just fine for me and there is room for a 2nd 2.5" drive. I wish it was of the quality they did the 3.5" bays and that it was tool-less but it wasn't a big deal.

Another cool point was the black screws / hardware and Enermax Velcro straps that were included.

Cons: The 2.5" drive bracket is nothing fancy, pretty much an up-side-down U shaped bracket that screws on from under the case. It just seemed kind of cheesy where pretty much everything else on the case was done nice.

The sides of the case feel cheap / thin / light weight vs my Antec cases but it in no way detracts from the case once assembled.

The specs say a 23cm / 230mm fan will fit on top, there is NO WAY. The 20cm / 200mm fan just so barely fits the width of the case. The instructions call out a 20cm max fan size as well. The Coolermaster MegaFlow200 worked out perfect on top.

Depending if you / how you layout the top fans, it might interfere with a ROM drive in the top bay. With the 20cm fan it looks like it would clear. with 2x 120mm fans you'd have to more the ROM down.

As others have said, they didn't leave a convenient hole for the CPU power cable. I ended up using the top cable management hole but it puts the CPU power cable into the top fan. I was able to work it out so it wouldn't get into the top side fan.

Other Thoughts: The window is smoked. I initially saw this as a bad thing but it actually worked out pretty well. It does a good job of toning down the LEDs in the fans.

I strongly recommend this case over the 'base' Ostrog case. The included fans and improved cable management are totally worth it.. This is like the basic case with all the tweaks I'd want applied.
