3 out of 5 eggsMinimum size case for standard components

Pros: This is an excellent case if you want a small rackmount setup that you can swap in your mini-itx motherboard, SFX PSU, standard I/O plate, full height expansion card(s), and 2.5" hard drives.

Case is sturdy when installed, and looks professional. I have two of these cases and they take right at 3U with a bit of space. LEDs aren't too bright.

Cons: Frustrating part is the case is *so* close to being 5 stars. The case top is just slightly wider than it should be, making the small screws hard to get into place. 1mm narrower would have been perfect.

I ordered two cases, one of which was DOA due to a bad front panel connector. The USB cable had a torn wire, and the power/reset switch didn't work. Newegg replaced with a working one.

Also had one of the two 60mm fans squeak from the start. I replaced all of them anyway with 4pin PWN fans. Higher quality fans would have been appreciated.

Hard drive mounting bracket is difficult to remove. Harder to put back, since two of the screws that secure the cage to the case are directly inline with the screws that hold the hard drives. Means you have to screw them in place at an angle, which is hard and increases the chances of cross-threading.

Last complaint is that expansion cards don't have a "lip" that secures one end the of bracket closest to the motherboard. So, you're just reliant on the screw on the other end. Also, I've asked the manufacturer twice for details on where to buy the ribbon cable they list on their website. No response. I ended up buying two off a large retail website, having to return one because it didn't fit. Frustrating that the manufacturer doesn't list a place to buy a compatible bracket, leaving customers to figure it out trial-and-error.

Other Thoughts: I'm happy with the case, but next time I might just get a 2U case that's higher quality to begin with. If you don't mind the issues with the case, it's great if space is at a premium in your rack. I'm using an IKEA Lack Rack.

5 out of 5 eggsPfsense Build

Pros: Nice study case, which has a nice plain design that helps avoid unwanted attention. I'm using this case for a pfsense build (router) and the main reason I picked the case is due to it accommodating a normal ITX motherboard and I/O shield (1.5u), somewhat normal SFX power-supply, and enough clearance for a heatsink. Have not used the fans so I can not comment on if they are loud -- replaceable. Mine came with a bag of screws unlike a pervious review -- I believe I received an updated model and there are a few differences compared to the photos. See cons for more info about the differences.

Cons: No real cons about the case, but some things to note of the differences in my unit compared to the stock photos.

1) When replacing the lid I noticed it was about 1.5mm wider than the case, causing an issue screwing it back on. Basically you need to mess with it for a few moments and tighten both sides at the same time, then it fits without an issue. Not a big deal for the price of the case and it does go back on securely, but worth mentioning.
2) The photos of the lid show horizontal cut vents for the power-supply, mine had a bunch of small circle holes instead. Doesn't affect it in any negative way.
3) Back of the case (in the photos) show two com/serial cut-outs and one PCI slot. Mine had two double stacked PCI slots instead, which was nice to see if I ever repurpose the case. Worth mentioning in case someone plans to buy the case for the port cut-outs or was looking for x2 PCI slots.

Other Thoughts: Don't worry about pervious reviews stating they couldn't find a power-supply. Those reviews were written years ago when there weren't many SFX options. I'm using a "SILVERSTONE SFX ST30SF" that is silent till it reaches about 50% load. Using a embedded ITX with 1037u process doesn't reach that limit -- therefore, I have a silent pfsense build.

Overall this is the perfect case for my build, it is the smallest (1.5u) server case that allows standardized components and I/O shield and enough features to suit my needs.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat rack case

Pros: Short and sturdy. Just what I was looking for. The 4X internal 2.5" drive bay is great. The 1.5 U is no issue as I don't have to worry about finding a 1U panel to match my motherboard. Normal one works fine.

Cons: - No USB3 support.
- Not able to flush mount under another device due to SFX power supply vents.

Other Thoughts: Using a silverstone SFX ST30SF powersupply. This works great as it's vents match up with the top vents in the case and still allow plenty of room for internal 2.5" drive bays. I installed the ASROCK extended ITX motherboard and as such had to make some very mnor modifications to remove the internal 3.5" drive bay and riser holder. No complaints.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat case

Pros: fits all mini-itx motherboards perfectly. fits SFX power supplies (Athena makes a good one that worked perfectly for this case) the LED is very bright but that's good for a rack mount server if you want to make sure its on. came with fans and they work great in the front really brings a lot of air in and pushes it out the back/side vents. fits 2.5" hard drives perfectly, and fits a lot of them.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: 1.3U which is a little wacky but it works fine. 2 of them take up 3U's of slots with a tiny gap in between the two with actually works for ventilation.

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost Awesome

Pros: Black
Simple Design
Short
Lots of room inside
No need for hard drive brackets
Easy assemble

Cons: Good luck finding a power supply that fits!
It's 1.5U not a 1U (but not a big deal for me)

Other Thoughts: I would have given it 5 eggs if there was anywhere on this planet to buy a power supply that fits this case.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Case, poor cooling

Pros: We ordered two of these over the course of 8 months. I was impressed by the riggidity and solid build quality of the unit. Ample space for hard drives made this a great option for a dedicated firewall running pfSense.

Cons: Our first unit used an integrated video solution on an SK1200 Intel Server Board, with just the stock cooling options, it was adequate, but not optimal. So I had to manually install a secondary exhaust fan on the side port. Further More, the Powersupply is a SFX, but the only available ones on Newegg at the time are the 9PA2003401. Which are intended for P4 motherboards (missing SATA and 4pin ATX extension). The 1.3U Chassis is flawed in that the vent holes are directly over the PSU, but the PSU does not have top mounted vents, only front and rear, making the vents useless. A search for a "proper" powersupply provided fruitless as well.

Other Thoughts: The Second Chassis proved more frustrating. The rear PCI expansion slots require a left mounted riser card, which block the side venting of the case if installed. If a low power video car is used, regardless of wattage, the temperature spikes dramatically. Our only solution was to buy a secondary PCI Slot Exhaust Fan, as well as drill a 2.5" Hole above the CPU. We also removed the outer case of the PSU to make use of the vents (DANGEROUS!)

Over all, a decent chassis, but be prepared to provide your own fans.

Not a bad solution if you have an extremely low wattage/low power ITX motherboard.

Horrible if you hope to cram even an Intel Xeon E3-1220 w/ Nvidia 8400GS.

ALSO, and this is more a negative on the motherboard, but the ram slots block all the fresh air coming in from the front fans, and the USB header cables are too short.

5 out of 5 eggsARK IPC 1.5U Very Nice

Pros: Recently we purchased rack mount cases for evaluation to add to our product line. The ARK IPC 1.5 will definitely be one of them. At first, I was skeptic in making the purchase in thinking it would be cheaply made because of the price. I am glad that I was wrong. It’s a very nice case with no sharp edges. To boot, it has 2 DB9 slots on the rear; a big plus for our company because of our clientele that serves the Radio Broadcast Industry. Serial communication is alive and well in the field of Broadcasting. Thanks ARK for the fine product and price

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsNice little chassis

Pros: Small. No rails needed. Has two spaces in the back for DB9 connectors (been a while since I've seen that!). Very sturdy feeling.

Cons: Power LED is blinding =).

Other Thoughts: This is actually 1.3U, not 1U. Not really that big of an issue in my setup, but it might be for others. As well, even though this is for mini-itx mobos, it uses an SFX power supply. Really nice chassis for a router, and the DB9 slots (coupled with a mobo with a few serial headers) make it easy to use it as a poor-man's cyclade for OoB management of other networking gear in the rack.
