1 out of 5 eggsIncluded PSU blew up after three days.

Pros: I like the case. I bought it because I was building a quiet rig. It only has one case fan and is very quiet. The size is perfect.

Cons: The PSU literally blew up after three days. It sounded like a firecracker. The version of the case I received is a dated version of this very dated case. It lacks some features that can be had in a newer Sonata III.

Other Thoughts: I would not, obviously, purchase again. Too bad it is too much of a hassle to return it. Purchased a new PSU (from another vender) and it is on its way.

4 out of 5 eggsGood case. QC needs to be better.

Pros: This is my second Antec Sonata as the first build was back in 2006 and it's still going well. This looks similar to the first case with some minor changes and possible upgrades. Plenty of room for SSD, HD and other goodies needed to complete a system.

Cons: Received the case through standard shipping courier. The shipping box was is very good shape and not damaged. However, upon inspection the top and one side of the case has a small "rub" mark on the paint and a small hairline scratch. These blemishes won't come out with any buffing. I don't think this was from shipping since it was wrapped very well and packaged very well to boot, but from the factory as QC missed it. It's tolerable, however, QC needs to spot and remove these units from being approved.

Other Thoughts: I've yet to start my build and I hope to start sometime soon. I'll follow up once the build is complete.

3 out of 5 eggsIII Eggs for Antec Sonata III

Pros: Nice sleek design. Pretty sturdy construction. Plenty of extra hardware. PSU included and pre-installed. Roomy interior. Rubber grommets for HDDs. Locking front and side panel doors. Two 120mm fan mounts. Front panel fan filter.

Cons: PSU is mounted at the top of the case, rather than the bottom and can't be removed or replaced without taking the entire motherboard out first...
Lack of extra air vents, fans and fan mounts. There's only room for two 120mm fans and the second (internal) one would get in the way of a beefy video card, defeating the purpose.
No vents on the side or top of the case and only one lame 120mm fan that comes with it (lame because it's a manual 3 speed switch fan, rather than having a fan header that plugs into your MOBO so it can control the fan automatically). I used two scythe fans instead. I bought this case 3+ years ago and I still have the original fan in the original box because I can't find any practical use for it...
Flimsy plastic door with easily broken lock mechanism.
Front filter slides out the BOTTOM so you have to flip the case sideways to get to it.
Front panel does not come off easily - I ended up breaking one of the plastic clasps accidentally.
No place to mount an SSD. I had to jury rig my HyperX 3K into one of the 3.5 slots, but the black cover panel had to come off for it to fit, so now you can see the SSD and a big gap when looking at the front of the case. I guess I could just let the SSD dangle in the case somewhere but that's pretty much the only other option. Forget about mounting it behind the MOBO anywhere. It won't mount to the hard drive bays and it doesn't look like they've updated the bays to support SSD since I bought mine.

Other Thoughts: This is an old out-of-date design that Antec merely slapped a new PSU into and upgraded it to USB 3.0. Overall, it's a good case and was a great choice years ago, but times have changed and this model's design just doesn't really cut it anymore. Only buy this case if you're on a budget and it's on sale and you aren't planning to put together a super powerful gaming rig or HTPC. Otherwise, you are much better off with say... a Fractal case and a nice beefy 80+ bronze certified PSU with some more wattage.

1 out of 5 eggsAntec Sonata III Computer Case

Pros: This was my third Sonata III case.

Cons: Power Supply was D.O.A.
Expected much better quality from Antec.

Other Thoughts: This my third build in 20 years. Thought I had messed up on the cable & wire connections. Took it to Data Doctors. They replaced the Power Supply with OCZ Power Supply. $150.00
Computer is working very well, now. Can't return for a credit, as I have to return the complete case, which I can't do, as it is working well now. Expected much better quality from Antec.

2 out of 5 eggsChintzy & Overpriced

Pros: * Shock-absorbing internal disk drive trays. Shock and vibration are the number one killer of hard drives, so this is a worthwhile feature.

* 120mm rear bulkhead fan. These large fans can turn more slowly that the 80mm and 92mm alternatives, yet move as much air as the smaller fans with less blade passing noise (whine). The lower RPM helps to prolong bearing life as well.

* Generally good looks.

Cons: * Locking front door. Not only does this "feature" offer an opportunity to lose the keys and thus not be able to gain access to the controls and drive bays, it sets up a situation where the DVD/CD drive can be fatally damaged if it receives an eject command while the door is closed.

* Cramped interior space. Not only does the tight interior increase the required assembly time, it prevents removal and replacement of the power supply unless the heat sink assembly is removed from the motherboard. Also, the front edge of the motherboard is positioned too closely to the hard drive cage, making it somewhat difficult to route wiring in a way that doesn't impinge on motherboard space.

* Flimsy construction. What happened to the days when Antec chassis were built with spot welds, 16 gauge steel and had some substance to them? This thing is held together with pop rivets and the sheet metal is so thin it seems as though one could accidentally dent it by merely picking it up the wrong way.

* Lack of precision in sheet metal formation. We had trouble getting things to line up in some cases.

Other Thoughts: The chassis we received had some external (cosmetic) damage. The shipping carton itself was in good condition, as was the cushioning foam, indicating to us that this chassis was not dropped or otherwise mishandled by Newegg, or during shipment from Newegg to us. It is certainly not the first time that we've seen this in Antec products.

In comparison with other chassis in the same price range, this product comes off as chintzy and overpriced. Also, our experiences with Antec power supplies have been mixed: they are not noted for their long life.

Our suggestion is that you look at a different product line. We have rated this product as a two-egger.

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Case

Pros: Excellent PSU with all the connections you'll likely need, solid built, 2 x USB3.0 on the front. Easy drive mounting and removal.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I love these cases--They are big, quiet, and plenty sturdy for normal use. They give about 5 million screws, you will NOT come up short. This case makes a home build pretty easy.

5 out of 5 eggsWelcome Home Antec!

Pros: 4 hard drive trays with rubber mounts to eliminate vibration. Nice black finish, dust filter, 500w Power Supply with all sorts of connections, large but quiet fan. All the screws you need, no need to run to the store to buy more. Not a single sharp edge inside the case to slice and dice my hand.

Cons: Power on and reset buttons were reversed. A wee bit expensive.

Other Thoughts: I used to buy only Antec cases years ago and I stopped because of pricing and because they stopped making the models I liked. For this build I could not find a similar case with all these virtues. One important thing was the hard drive trays that slide in from the side. In spite of the mix up with the reset buttons I still gave it 5 eggs, the price is a wee bit high, but then there is nothing else that comes even close, not to mention the quality power supply.
This is the Volvo of computer cases, nice and safe but not perfect. Antec earned my money on this one and my customer is happy with their RAID10 setup.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case!

Pros: I found this case is very easy to work in. I bought this case because I am able to lock both the side and front access panels to keep my toddler niece's curious fingers out of it. She kept shutting off the power on a previous case.

I have owned this case since 2008 and have made many upgrades (swapped MBs added and removed components, etc) and have not had a problem. It still looks good and it also has a front filter that can be removed (albeit with a little difficulty) for cleaning. Definitely a plus in a home with 2 cats.

Cons: The only con I have is that the way the hard drives are mounted, routing the cables is a bit "tricky" but not impossible.

Other Thoughts: As I said, I have had this case since 2008 and the power supply just died this month. So I feel this case owes me nothing considering it has outlasted the manufacturers warranty by 2 years.

I would definitely recommend this case. If they would lower the price back to what I originally paid ($90) in 2008, I would most likely purchase a second one.

5 out of 5 eggsStands the test of time... as long as they haven't changed it

Pros: * Very Sturdy
* Somewhat Quiet
* Looks great
* No drawbacks whatsoever

Cons: * NONE

Other Thoughts: I've owned this case for about 5 years now and it has remained my absolute favorite. Mine is definitely top quality, but I am sad to hear from recent reviews that they are apparently now taking some shortcuts in manufacturing that affect its quality. The case is now much more expensive than before, but I would still pay that much for it.
