WOW just wow
- Pros: looks of course
quiet (see other thoughts) small size lay out
- Cons: none that I can think of
- Other Thoughts: Zotac IONITX-D-E 9300
LG CH08LS10 blu-ray drive I wanted a media center/lite gaming rig to keep at my girlfriends place, and was interested in the big brother version for my next build. The LG drive is too big to fit with the case fan so I removed it (just blows on the back of the drive anyway). Without the extra fan I sometimes forget if the computer is on it's that quiet. When I turn the fan on high it's noticeable but I only do it for games so I don't care. I can play COD4 multiplayer for hours and have the heatsink on the MB remain cool to the touch. I've been using it for about 3 months without any problems, and can't wait to get the bigger one for my gaming rig!
Is what it claims to be - I like it
- Pros: This case is well made and solidly built. I like the toolless snapin HDD approach. I haven't built a lot of systems - maybe 5 or 6 - but I really like how well this case is put together. Even for a mini-ITX this was simpler to assemble and, dare I say roomier, than the 4 rack space case I have which uses a full size MB.
I'd mention the looks of this case but you either like the looks or you hate it. I couldn't resist.
- Cons: No cons really other than what comes naturally from a really, really small case. I can't fault Antec for this because it is exactly what was advertized.
- Other Thoughts: Beware of the 90w power brick. No fault of Antec because that is well documented but be sure that is adequate for you.
I use a Zotac GF9300 which has video outputs for HDMI, DMI and VGA. In my case, my Harmon Kardon home theater system provides video inputs for S-Video, Component and Composite video. Unfortunately none of these worked with the MB capabilities which forced me to purchase a video card with S-Video. The NewEgg forums saved me by providing info on power consumption of various graphics cards an pointed me to the ATI Radeon 4350 which consumes 22w.
Figuring a 65w Dual Core processor, 2.5w OCZ SSD 32MB HDD, 20w for the MB and 22w GPU you can see that you could exceed the case's power supply under heavy load. I'm just using it as an HTPC and haven't experienced any problems.
Get a low-profile card for whatever MB you get if you want it to fit. Like you should expect, things are tight space-wise.
Nerd-tac-ular and fun but needs improvement.
- Pros: * Very Quite with large fan on low speed. (My CPU fan is adjustable and also on low speed).
* Very small footprint (although there are smaller).
* Unique appearance (is fun to show off).
- Cons: * Small size makes it difficult to work with (must be patient and creative).
* Cannot use most standard CPU coolers. I am using a Zalman CNPS 7500 and I had to remove 8 screws to remove the top fan housing just to get it on the motherboard and be able to slide the motherboard tray in. (I have less than 3mm worth of clearance). If I had to do this again I would get a low profile fan.
* The power cables are too short and look pretty ugly unless you sleeve them.
* The curved shape of the top of the case makes it impossible to use most low profile video cards as they are too long (I guess you could dremel it but that looks ugly).
* Cables are hard to route.
* Can get dusty (just keep a can of air handy to spruce her up every once in awhile).
* Only 2 USB and audio on front... could use some more options...
- Other Thoughts: I built this machine as a media streamer / guest pc and I am loving it.
I love this case cause it is just different looking and I've gotten bored of the plan old boxes.
I decided to use this case with the 9300 Zotac Board / Intel E6600.
My thoughts for the next revision of this product :
** should build in cable troughs into the side to make it easy to route cables and still keep the lean clean-cut look.
** power cables should be longer and sleeved. Power for drives should come out the back and not the front to preserve appearance. The two fans should just be wired into the power supply directly so you don't have to bundle cables.
** should enlarge the dimensions so you can use full length video card or maybe even full height video card for a killer little gamer box
** The side removable screens are cool. They should add something like that for the front and back with removable cutouts for the CD/DVD drive, fan, etc.
