When Thermatake entered the chassis market, their Xaser series of lightweight aluminum and composite cases stood them apart from the plain beige and plastic cases then on the market. The VG4000BNS Xaser VI continues this trend with its dynamic red and black design and a host of attractive features. Thermaltake cases are designed with cooling in mind.
A 140mm fan draws air in through the lower red mesh of the front bezel and goes out through the 120mm fan in the rear as well as the 140mm top-mounted fan. The VGA cards receive their own inflow of cooling air courtesy of the 140mm fan mounted in the red mesh and black aluminum side panel. Both the front and the rear fans are lit with blue LED's for visual impact. The 140mm fans can be replaced by 120mm fans using the same mounts, and provisions for a pair of additional fans venting through the bottom of the case.
The cavernous interior can fit 10 expansion cards in screwless slots, along with supporting a variety of motherboards in the slide-out tray which keeps everything connected. The case supports a trio of nVidia SLI cards or four ATI Crossfire devices. Up to 14 drives can be installed -- up to seven 3.5" and seven 5.25" drives connected along the edge of the case to improve airflow. An adjustable PSU support bridge provides a wide choice of power supplies. All your connection ports are in easy reach, along with the HD audio input and output jacks, behind a panel on the upper front bezel – surrounding the stylized X-shaped power button. This is the case that lets you grow your system – and look good at the same time.

- Pros: Big and spacious case, more than enough to handle all the new large components of the latest gen computers with plenty of room to spare. Very fond of the cable management, it makes for a very uncluttered case. This is easily my favorite case I've had so far. Mostly metal a plus. Quiet. Tons of cable management accessories & screws. Adjustable pwr supply rail. Removable mobo tray works great.
- Cons: Handles/Hand holds would be nice for a case of this size/weight. I also had one of the plastic "fins" on the back of the case break on me while removing it from the box. The tool-less pins for mounting the hard drives are a pain and I just went ahead and used screws. The front panel I/O cover has a very flimsy/ cheap "feel" to it.
- Other Thoughts: Part of me wanted to give this case only 4 rating, based on the cons stated above, but it is just too cool. I love the gadget aspects of this box, like the flimsy front panel I/O cover and the hidden compartment on the top of the case. The case is very well designed. With all the space and cable management, you should be able to avoid having to use a liquid cooling set-up. You really can put your system in this case without the use of tools, with a very little patience. I never fail to be pleased with my Thermaltake purchases.
HUGE CASE
- Pros: LOTS of room, HUGE case, HDD racks make swapping a breeze, side panels come off easily.
- Cons: a bit heavy, but considering the size, its not bad. make sure it fits in the area you intend to place it
- Other Thoughts: best looking case I have ever purchased, way to go ThermalTake

Simply stunning
- Pros: This case is massive! There's enough room to play hide and seek in this case. Beautiful craftmanship! Wire management is a dream, colors are vibrant. I bought the "mesh" version for one of my customer's custom builds and I will buy another. For those that complain about the little screws being hard to get at in the back because of the wire holders....come on, that's what they make little screwdrivers for! Just because they say you don't need any tools, let's not knock them for that. Everything was easy to install and looked phenomenal. Excellent airflow but I added 2x140mm fans to the bottom as there is no need for 7 HD bays for me.
- Cons: Fans are all molex connectors. If you want to run PWM or fan controller, fans will have to be replaced. Most custom builders do this anyways. Paint and plastic (covering on/off switch, e-Sata, etc) is EASILY scratched. Lint-free cloth is provided however, just make sure you use it. Don't even think about putting a paper towel to it. Hard to get airflow over the motherboard if you use an addon CPU cooler or passive cooling system. The VGA fan sits too low to cool anything other than the graphics card(s), which is why they probably call it a VGA fan. I added a 120mm in that took up a few of the million 5.25 bays which moves air nicely over the motherboard.

- Pros: OUTSTANDING
- Cons: NONE
Very well equipped
- Pros: Very large case. Will fit a wide array of motherboards and any size video card. Whereas some buyers need to be wary of whether their favorite GTX card will fit within their case...there's absolutely nothing to worry about with this one.
The cooling is also very nice. There are 4 fans total, 1 120 mm in the back, and 3 140 mm at the HDD bay, top vent, and VGA. The mesh siding also assists greatly in airflow.
4 USB and 2 eSATA at the front allows connecting external media to the computer to be quite convenient.
- Cons: Alone, weighs about 40 lbs. With full setup, becomes an almost immovable object under your desk. Should definitely equip wheels onto it.
The "fins" on the back of the case are extremely flimsy. My case arrived with one of the pieces broken off...ended up crazy gluing it back on. It's fine now...but be wary of those fins. The lights on front of the case are also annoying at times...the headlights are extremely bright. Wish there was a button to turn them off, especially when watching movies in a dark room.
- Other Thoughts: The case is also one that only a mother will love. It's very much a hit or miss...you will either love or hate its appearance.
The case is also so large that the top piece that hides the power button, USB, eSATA and firewire connections becomes an annoyance that hits into the top of most normally sized desks.
