Thermaltake's V9 is a solid, elegant case that combines style, function and performance. Part of the V9 series of mid-tower cases, it has plenty of room for expansion and tons of potential for modders. It holds up to four external 5.25" drives, two external 3.5" and five internal 3.5" drives – easily installed without tools.

Install up to 7 expansion cards as well – again without tools. Most standard ATX boards will install effortlessly thanks to standoffs built into the motherboard tray. The entire case is cooled by a pair of silent, blue LED 120mm fans which draw air through the metal grille front bezel and out through the rear of the case. Plus, huge dual 230mm fans are installed on the side panel and top to provide increased air flow.

A pair of easily-accessible USB 2.0 ports are located at the top of the front plate, along with HD audio input and output jacks. If additional cooling is needed, the case can also take a liquid cooling system.

  • newegg Supreme Expandability with 11 Drive Bays Featuring four 5.25" external drive bays, and seven 3.5" drive bays (two external and five internal), the Thermaltake V9 Black Edition provides supreme expandability.
  • newegg Efficient Ventilation The Thermaltake Spedo VI90001N2Z features two oversized 230mm fans and two 120mm fans for efficient ventilation and effective system cooling.
  • newegg Tool-free Installation The tool-free design ensures quick installation and upgrade for expansion cards, 5.25" and 3.5" devices to save your time. Start enjoying computing rapidly!
  • newegg Convenient Top I/O Panel The convenient top I/O panel enables easy access to two USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394 port, one eSATA port and two audio ports.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for the price, BUT...

Pros: Multiple large fans provide excellent ventilation. Probably the best cooling arrangement for the price. Multiple large fans move a huge volume of air at low RPM, making the case very nearly silent. Modern bottom-mount PS location.

Cons: Rebate offer borders on scam. I followed their instructions to the letter & attached the ONLY barcode from the box, but got an e-mail declining my rebate because I "failed to send in the required barcode from the product". After threatening to refer the matter to the NY AG my rebate was approved - although I haven't seen the money yet. So base your purchase on the out-the-door price for this case without factoring in the rebate, which may never come.

Flimsy drive retainers inspire zero confidence. Throw them away and use screws. Your drive is being held in place by two 1/16" lumps of plastic.

The 200mm side fan was put in the center of the side panel making it impossible to clear a tall CPU cooler (CM 212+). Had to turn the CPU cooler so it laid flat with fan on top in a "puller" arrangement and relocate side fan 1.5" lower so it rests just above the top of the PSU to make it all fit. It cuts off a small crescent of the bottom of the fan but it works OK.

Other Thoughts: Case is very thin steel, side panels may dent easily. Should have been made wider than classical mid tower dimensions to better accommodate aftermarket CPU coolers.

Not much thought given to cable routing, again the narrow width didn't give them many options.

No opening in MB tray for cooler bracket attachments. Instead you have punchouts for attaching a fan to the bottom of the MB tray to cool...what?? The bottom of the MB??

PS mounts in bottom of case. This is good, but case has very thin feet. If tower is to sit on carpet, they will allow the bottom of the case to sink in and sit flat. The PS will then have zero air intake. Will have to find taller feet or use a CPU stand.

4 out of 5 eggsBig Fans

Pros: Nice and Big, great cooling, LEDs are always cool
Awesome looking
Love the front usb and audio ports

Cons: Theres only two things I dont Like about this case,
The mounting system for HDs has Palstic clips to hold you HD in place there pretty much usles just use real screws to hold them in place. and the front panel with removeable bays for Drives and what not it seems like once I removed one for the dick drive the others are loosened up and some times fall out, I just ended up bending the clips alittle to keep them in there .

Other Thoughts: For the price this is a great case if you dont mind the little things its actualy well built.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent case

Pros: Excellent cooling. Fans are really quiet. Cool lights. Some built-in motherboard standoffs. Lots of drive bays. Excellent fan locations to cool down the rig.

Cons: Case metal on the back is really thin. Be careful when popping out the backplane and card slots. You could easily bend the metal. Also, be sure you remove the correct cover for the card slot when installing a graphics card or other cards. Once removed, you can't put it back. The tool free card slot holders are a piece of junk. I removed it and used screws. Ditto with the tool free drive assembly. The drive could still move so I tossed them and used screws instead. I like neat installs, but there are not enough spots around the case to zip tie the loose wires to. The fans that came with the case do not have speed controllers. So I replaced them with ones that do. Looked cool in the pictures and looked like a decent value. But after getting it and assembling my rig, I don't think it's worth the money.

Other Thoughts: Why blue light around the power button and red fan lights? Should be all the same color (blue). There are screw holes and an opening that look like you can install another case fan just beneath the spot on the motherboard where the CPU will sit. Cool idea, however, where can you find a fan that is thin enough to fit there? Also, the side panel on that side of the case does not match the picture on the box. So, there are no vents on the side panel that will line up with the fan anyway ... assuming that you can find a fan in the first place. I bought a V8 CPU cooler. That thing is so huge that I had to remove the 200 mm side panel fan so that I could close the case. Replaced it with a 120 mm fan mounted to the vent holes. Doesn't look very nice, but I still wanted a fan on the side. Would have been nice if there were screw holes that would allow such an install. Overall, decent case. Just not worth the money.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The case is spacious. The large fan on top of the case is very quiet, and really cools the motherboard and CPU. Putting the power supply at the bottom makes the case very stable.

Cons: The metal is pretty thin and bends easily. The metal shield covering the I/O ports of the motherboard is very difficult to remove---removing it caused bending the entire back of the case. The "toolless" plastic stuff that holds in the PCI cards and hard drives is horrible---it doesn't hold anything. Most of the pieces on mine, extra flux on the plastic meant that some of the pieces didn't even fit. However, the plastic can be removed and plain screws used (I wish I would have read that in previous reviews before wasting a bunch of time!). None of the fans are speed controllable, which is unfortunate since my motherboard can control such fans.

1 out of 5 eggsI Won't Be Buying Another One, Thats For Sure.....

Pros: A decent case with a good amount of room for the average computer enthusiast. Overall air flow is excellent, imo. Plenty of fans and all are very quiet as well. Easy access to both side panels with nice thumb screws on the back for removing the panels without the need of tools. Nice red LEDs and front panel.

Cons: Main side panel has a 200mm fan mounted on the inside. This sounds good but here is my major gripe. I bought a CORSAIR H50-1 Liquid CPU Cooler and had it all mounted and my case ready to be closed up. The problem is that the fan on the side panal gets in the way and hits the CPU coolers radiator, not allowing you to close the case. The only way around this is to take off the fan, which I did. This was the second CPU cooler that I bought that hit the side panel fan. The other cooler was the SpinQ by Thermaltake. I took this one back because of this.

The 200mm top fan just broke on me out of nowhere too. I have had this case for only about 5 months. I powered on the other day and the top fan literally just flew apart, into about 6 pieces, that then rained down onto all the internals of my computer. Luckly nothing else broke. This should not happen to a 5 month old case, especially to the fan I have the least access to.

Other Thoughts: Cable management is horrid on this case. You have to basically cut through these metal tabs in order to run any cables to the compartment behind the mobo. I loved this case when I first got it. It's a nice looking case but that doesn't make up for poor fan quality and terrible cable management. If you plan on building with this case and don't plan on ever opening it up and changing things, then maybe this will work for you. If you upgrade a lot, save yourself the hassle. I wish I could have given a better review but this is my story.

2 out of 5 eggsOk I guess

Pros: Tool-less bays are ok , and there is a good amount of room inside the case.

Cons: I bought this case in a bundle and well I guess I should have paid attention to the reviews more, the case overall is very flimsy. The silent fans rub the case; do to the easy distortion of the metal. The fans them selves are very fragile. One was broke upon arrival. I will not RMA do to having to ship back the whole case.

Manufacturer Response:

Anonymous,
Thermaltake RMA does not require the return of the whole chassis. We will replace just the part you have issue with. Please contact ttsupport@thermaltakeusa.com for information on getting the fan replaced.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't wast your money

Pros: It's big and painted inside. Lots of drive bays.

Cons: Poor material quality, thin soft metal that won't hold it's shape. The rear mounted card slot USB panel falls out, there's no way to fully secure it. The quick clamping is a good idea but poorly implemented. The big fans aren't really very quiet either.

Other Thoughts: In over twenty years of building computers I have never seen a case this bad. It has been replaced with an Antec 900SE, ten times the quality and only $25 dollars more at FRY's. I just hope the Thermaltake 850 watt power supply I got is better in the long run than this case was for 1 day.

Manufacturer Response:

Anonymous,
The case does not come with a "rear mounted card slot USB panel". If you are trying to mount such a card, you may simply remove the tooless clip and mount the card with a case screw.

2 out of 5 eggsGenerally Unhappy with this case

Pros: Raised motherboard mounts.

Cons: Really poor build quality. The side panels barely fit and do not sit flush with the case. The poorly fitting panels made it difficult to get the thumb screws in as well.

On a few occasions the top fan started to grind when started, but stopped within a few seconds.

The tool-less peripheral clip wouldn't work with my video card and had to be removed.

4 out of 5 eggsLow noise but design could be better.

Pros: Runs with super low noise output and keeps my computer nice and cool.

Cons: The screw less design sucks. Both the pci screw less device and those twisty plugs are just bad design. I am not a fan of chintzy plastic pieces holding valuable parts in place. Used screws instead.

My standard screws for every other case I have ever used dont seem to fit in this case's holes.

Other Thoughts: Would have been 5 eggs if they just didnt include the screw less stuff..
