The Obsidian Series 650D is manufactured with strong, stamped steel parts for increased rigidity, and coated in a black textured paint. The front panel features a beautiful black brushed aluminum faceplate to bring a subtle elegance to your next build. In addition to the quality construction, the Obsidian Series 650D comes with excellent cooling as well. A large, black 200mm intake fan hides behind the front dust filter, quietly pushing vast amounts of air over your hard drives and video cards. The air is then exhausted by a second 200mm fan on top of the case, and a rear 120mm fan. The top fan can be replaced by dual 120mm or 140mm fans, and is pre-spaced for a dual radiator if you’re interested in watercooling. And all fans are controlled by a three-mode, four-channel fan controller should you want to make your own choice between noise and performance.

  • newegg Supreme Expandability with 10 Drive Bays Boasting four tool-free 5.25" drive bays as well as six 3.5" SSD-ready drive bays (3.5"/2.5" Drive Caddies), the Corsair Obsidian Series 650D provides plenty of expansion. Plus, eight expansion slots give you tons of room for multiple graphics cards.
  • newegg Great Cooling Performance The Obsidian Series 650D mounts dual 200mm fans and one 120mm fan, which provide outstanding cooling for even the hottest components. It also features an integrated fan controller that lets you quickly adjust cooling performance and noise levels.
  • newegg Cable Routing System The Obsidian Series 650D features brilliant cable routing system which provides a way to keep your system neat and tidy.
  • newegg CPU Backplate Cutout CPU cutout allows for easy installation or removal of CPU coolers, without having to remove the motherboard.
  • newegg Convenient Front I/O The Obsidian Series 650D comes with a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port, four USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394 and 4-channel fan controller on the front panel for convenient access.
  • newegg Other Features In addition to quick-release side panels which make it easier than ever to upgrade your hardware, the Corsair Obsidian Series 650D also features easily accessible dust filters that make maintenance simple and hassle-free. In addition, its adjustable drive cages can be removed and relocated to accommodate large video cards.

3 out of 5 eggsGood unless you need customer support

Pros: Beautiful looking case

Cons: Price
fan controller died ( 4 months ago)
I/O panel died ( 1month)
Customer support has yet to respond to my "ticket" despite it being over a week. Website states response w/i 2 business days

Other Thoughts: Love Corsair's memory and power supply. I've heard how good their customer support is, but my experience begs to differ. Maybe my public posting will stir up a response.

3 out of 5 eggsCorsair 650D

Pros: -Great cable management options
-Front I/O port cover
-Removable drive cages
-No tools required, with an exception for HDD or SSD mounting
-Plenty of space and easy to work in
-External hot swap dock
-Looks sleek

Cons: -Front I/O port cover can make it awkward to remove headphones from the jacks, or place thumb drives
-External hot swap dock cover is difficult to close and will often hang ajar
-Front 3.0 USB does not connect directly to the motherboard through a 20 pin. Rather, it connects to the back ports with 2x 3.0 USB that pass through the case.
-Front bottom legs are thin, and picking the case up from the bottom can bow the leg.

Other Thoughts: Over all it's a good case, I enjoyed building my system with the 650D. Although I don't know if I would pay the same amount for it ($200).

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb case! Excellent Quality

Pros: Awesome case design, love all the grommets and false bottom with cutout to get at the back side of the CPU. Both sides being easily removable makes for easy access to everything. Really enjoyed building with this case. I totally love the external port for a SATA drive. This case is a great choice for building. I went with a Hydro Series H60 liquid cooler for the CPU and that fit in perfectly in place of the rear fan unit.

Cons: Case mounted fan switch...for me this was just a bunch of extra wires, but that's fine don't need it. I want my software to control my fans.

3 out of 5 eggsIts ok...

Pros: Its a nice case, I think its too expensive for what you get, The front is thin aluminum cover and it seems to be attached by double sided tape. I can see the seem coming apart from the top. Don't get me wrong its got some very nice features but the build quality could be better. It also doesn't sit well on the desk. one of the feet don't sit well. so it wobbles if you move it.

Cons: It doesn't sit well one of the feet are off the surface.
front bezel aluminum is coming off the top, it seems to be held by double sided tape. I would return it but Ive got my system set up and I cant be with out my work computer.

Other Thoughts: its got some nice features.

5 out of 5 eggsBest case I have ever owned

Pros: Great fans: quiet and great airflow.
Awesome build quality, case doesn't flex and small features like the fan covers popping in and out of place are great.
Usability: cable management features are great, beyond making your build look nice it increases airflow tremendously when one uses the under-motherboard cable routing.
Features: I didn't even realize the case came with a hot swap drive bay or a fan controller. The side panels are great for quick access and again reflect the good build quality of the case. The case comes with screwdriver-less screws for the pci slots and zip-ties for cable management.

Cons: Could have used more zip-ties for cable management. USB 3.0 ports in the front are routed to the rear ports; I used up both my read usb 3.0 ports and had to leave my motherboard's usb 3.0 header empty.

Other Thoughts: It's an expensive case but it comes through with quality. It isn't perfect but it exceeded my expectations and is a good choice for a super solid case with good features.

4 out of 5 eggsJust Short of Great

Pros: Keeping this brief since most earlier reviews already cover the case well, but it certainly does have very nice overall build quality. Quality...not fit though. Cables are generously long, so there should be little trouble reaching the most distant connections. I've yet to build my new system, so my comments are just from initial observations.

Cons: As mentioned, there is quality of construction here, but not of fit...most notably, the right door panel rattles because the otherwise elegant way of latching the panel to the case does not hold the panel tightly against the case. To combat this, I may eventually line the inner edge of the panel with felt but currently used a double layer of black Gorilla Tape.

The absence of an internal USB 3.0 header is asinine; at worst, a short length adapter cable for an internal header should've been provided for a case of this price. Knowing of this issue in advance, I erroneously assumed the front-panel firewire port would similarly forego a header connection and purchased an add-on 1394a card that didn't offer an internal header. Luckily, I found a store online that sells a 6-pin male to 10-pin male front-panel 1394a adapter cable for $5.28 with shipping, and that still came out cheaper than returning the 1394a card for a more pricey card with header. I do have an extra length of cable to deal with now, but I'll coil it all up and tuck it away neatly.

Looking at the rear of the case, there are 3 rectangular and 2 round holes cut out along each side, plus a square one at the top left. The latter is likely a pass-through for the long USB front-panel cable but the others serve no obvious purpose other than entry points for dust. So, I covered all with black Gorilla tap. Perhaps some might be used if attaching external radiators? Other than that, there are already two grommeted holes for pass-through of tubing, so I see little reason for the extra holes. The rectangular holes suggest possible attachment of a rear case cover akin to the front one, but I've never seen a case with such a cover. Note that the holes can be seen in the product photos.

I deduct one point in my rating based solely upon the loose fitting door panel and the USB3.0 front-panel cable. The other issues are nit-picking.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent

Pros: Good looks, love the window.

Cons: Came with a bunch of broken parts but corsair customer service was happy to send me the replacement parts so I did not have to RMA another one of their cases.

Other Thoughts: Newegg has not been very helpful or polite recently, premium membership doesn't mean premo service..

4 out of 5 eggsGreat case with a few exceptions

Pros: Very elegant styling. So many cases look so .... juvenile. But this case is very professional looking. Add some subtle LED effects and it is very impressive.

All cases should have this type of side latch mechanism. The side doors are easy to remove and there are no small screw threads to strip. Love the removable filters. I really like the drive bay and have used it many times.

Cons: Corsair has not sent me my rebate after 3 months. This is not the first time Corsair has acknowledged receipt of my rebate but failed to deliver. Never take a mail-in rebate into account in a buying decision for a Corsair part.

No 20-pin USB 3 cable. After all these years you'd thing they would have fixed this. I refuse to route cabels thru the case and out the back to an external I\O plate USB connection.

Barely adequate cable room in the back. If they had only moved the mobo tray a little bit over it would have been a wonderful case.

Only 1 intake fan to 2 exhaust fans.

Lots of gromets, except right in front of the typical SATA connections on the mobo. Seriously? Even though I'd appreciate having an appropriately placed cable hole in front of the SATA ports, I made due by looping the extra length of cables and going thru a different hole.

The front panel is very difficult to remove. Most Corsair cases have front panels that come off fairly easily but you need to carefully pry this one off. Why do they hate me?

I'm only taking off 1 egg, even for all of these shortcomings. I think because beauty, while only skin deep, affects my judgement. :-)

Other Thoughts: To compensate for the negative pressure design, I removed the grill in front of the 200mm intake and replaced the stock 200mm fan with a Bitfenix 200mm. Then I also cut out a part of the bottom for a 140mm Bitfenix intake fan. I kept the stock 200mm exhaust fan and the CPU exhaust fan. She now runs very quietly and has a posative case pressure.

If you like black, you will love this case. However, it can be a dark cave inside this beast. Upon receipt, I gutted the case of all removable parts and sprayed the interior with gun-metal gray. Now I can see the parts I added like cables, gromets, and such.

4 out of 5 eggsCorsair 650D case

Pros: nice & roomy!

Cons: hard to remove hard drive carriers after a drive is inserted. the tabs you pinch to remove the assembly hits the drive itself.. you have to really muscle it.
